Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn

From the weapon designs to the Marine and the outfits worn by the UNSC it all looks really good. Only complaint I guess would be them using the Halo 4 Elite designs and the Pelican is also from Halo 4, messes with my timeline canon but beyond this it's pretty good. The intro to Halo 4 also suffered from this thanks to it using the art direction of Halo 4 yet it was set before all the games. So its just something you'll notice during the early 343 days. Fall of Reach had this as well were the UNSC used Halo 4 era weapons and a few designs for ships and vehicles. It's like they treated their new designs as how the Halo universe always looked instead of an evolution of technology which has been fixed a little by later titles. But personally for me this film just has a better art direction compared to what we got in Halo 4, Marines being the most tragic. But I do think Forward Unto Dawn is 343's best Halo designs until Halo infinite came along and Halo Wars 2 if you count that as a 343 project.

Jackal Sniper

Fun fact: Originally, Steve Downes was actually supposed to play Chief, but they had to de-age his voice because he's supposed to be 15 in this movie. However, the de-aged voice sounded really odd and comical, so they got someone else to do the voice

In terms of timeline, this happened very shortly after what you saw in the Fall of Reach where they first got their armor and where Sam died in their first battle. The majority of the UNSC were still unaware of the Covenant at the time.

Apparently the attack on the school takes place in 2526, the human covenant war started a year earlier in 2525 with the Covenant attacking "Harvest" a farming colony planet. It seems the UNSC is still keeping it somewhat secret at this point. I'm guessing that after multiple colonies were hit and the loss of many UNSC warships that it became impossible to keep this secret. 27 years later the Halo: Reach and the Halo trilogy take place. According to the halopedia page about this movie, General Black (the corpse the Lasky pulls out of the warthog) was aware of the covenant threat and strengthened the academy with extra marines, plus ODST dropped in to help. Didn't matter though, humanity was really outmatched at the start of the war. What do I think of ONI? Well in terms of dealing with the insurrection I think they're monsters. Although most Insurrectionists were pretty awful too. When the human covenant war starts ONI are still monsters, but a bit more justified in their awfulness, sometimes. As far as other Halo stuff to react too, the Halo Wars cinematics are really well done. Halo Wars takes place in 2531, 6 years into the war, 21 years before the trilogy. So you could watch those because it's more a prequel. But don't watch the Halo Wars 2 cinematics until after halo 4. Anyway, sorry for the novel of a comment, this was so fun to watch.

Mage Reacts

I debated playing Halo Wars, but I think cutscene reactions are the way to go. And that is crazyyy about General Black knowing in advance, because he looked super stressed. Damn.

Yeah, it seems like that would be best, RTS games aren't for everyone. By watching the cutscenes/cinematics you get all the story and characters without having to play the game. Also yeah, General Black always being angry/passive aggressive on screen makes a little more sense now.

Yeah, Blue Team and the Cadets are all around the same age. Adds that extra layer with a movie about military training when you know about the II’s training

hey just curious when the next clone wars episodes are going to be coming out
