*sigh* Wish I could say Sonny Landham (Billy) was a great guy, but he was your typical conservative sonofabitch who had some very not nice things to say about the people of the Middle East. Claimed to be half Cherokee and one quarter Seminole. Married five times, got a few harassment charges put on him by his exes. Died in 2017 from congestive heart failure. Great movie and reaction though! An abundant source of memes!

This movie has two US governors. Arnold and Jesse Ventura. Jesse was elected governor of Minnesota, 1999-2003. He was also a Navy Seal in Vietnam. He was a wrestler in the WWF/WWE and in the 1980s he tried to unionize the wrestlers so they could get healthcare and pensions but Hulk Hogan snitched on Ventura to management. So that didn't work, but good on Jesse for trying. So he's an interesting guy. The name "Jim Hopper" probably sounds familiar to both of you because that's the name of chief of police Jim Hopper from Stranger Things. Given that Stranger Things is an homage to 1980's cinema they must have gotten Hopper's name from this movie. The guy with glasses who is the first to die is Shane Black, and he went on to be a successful writer and director. He wrote and directed Iron Man 3. He's really good at action comedies. He also directed a predator movie called "The Predator" (2018) which got bad reviews, but I haven't seen it yet myself. But his movie "The Nice Guys" 2016 with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe is great.

“It’s like Prey!” ….Ma’am, legally I have to resent that accusation

Predator is one of my favorite underrated alien franchises. I’d definitely recommend out checking the sequel movies as well as some of the comics from Dark Horse comics at your leisure.

The Predator was originally a very different creature to what was in the film and portrayed by Jean Claude Van Damme, but there was some dissatisfaction and they reshot it, and brought in Stan Winston Studios, who created the robot terminator and the t-1000 effects in T2.

From what I've seen, the predator camouflage effect was made by filming a scene with a bright red suit of the predator that contrasted against the green of the foliage, then refilming the same scene but just getting the background.

Chris

The two were then edited together and the predator removed, creating the blurry invisible effect. But it's an effect on the film itself, like in Star Wars where to film the spacecraft they would have the model, then the background, then merge them together.

The setup for making the Predator this truly terrifying movie monster is insanely well done. Cause the group of men are, as you guys correctly pointed out, the most stereotypical badass men you could write for an action movie. Every single one of them could be the lead badass action hero in an 80's movie. But this movie puts a whole group of them together, let's them show off how cool they are with the big firefight and then completely flips the script by having the Predator pick them all off one at a time. The Predator effectively puts himself at the top of the food chain against any and all muscled up badass action heroes. Even the absolutely huge Arnold Schwarzenegger is shown to be the small guy next to the Predator. It's quite ingenious.
