Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade

I was waiting to see if you’d get it about Elsa and BOOM, right at the end! You never disappoint! “He chose… poorly.” is basically the 1989 version of “Well, if it isn’t the consequences of my actions…”. Anyway, this is my favorite of the Indy movies. Yes, I love Raiders and Temple is fun, but this… Connery really elevates the movie and Ford is more than up to it too. Just such a fun entertaining ride. Quick trivia - the Grail Temple is Petra, an ancient historical site in Jordan. Perhaps, not surprisingly, tourism to Petra spiked following the movie and it continues to be appreciated. Funny you should ask about Spielberg and his relationship with his parents. I do know he said he made Schindler’s List for his mom and Saving Private Ryan for his father. More than that, I cannot say, but perhaps answers lie there. I really appreciated your reflections on identity and parental approval and appreciation. It’s little details like that that make you step back and reconsider a lot of things. Fresh eyes and new views can remind what makes a movie great and give you something worth pondering. Thank you for… “illumination.” As to the future… I’ve been meaning to sit down and watch Young Indiana Jones Chronicles for years, but keep procrastinating. I’ve heard they are at least pretty good. As to Crystal Skull and Dial of Destiny, I look at them the same way I do the Star Wars sequel trilogy - I actually like them. Are they exactly like what came before? No, of course not, and aren’t we kinda being like Indy’s dad being disappointed that they aren’t exactly the way we want them? Accept them for what they are and enjoy on their own merits, and who knows, they may end up being at the very least loved in their own way and terms. My opinion, take it for what you will. I leave it to you on both terms. To sum: great movie in a great YEAR of movies. Seriously, 1989 was ridiculously stacked. And best of the Indy movies.

This was awesome! This is my favorite one. It's just so fun, the comedic timing is so good for some of these scenes. I get a little bummed when it ends because of how good the trilogy was. Oh and you noticed that Elsa couldn't "let it go", I love that catch at the end, that was great. The movie takes place in 1938 so WWII hasn't started yet. This might explain the Rolls-Royce car, they were great cars, the wealthy were buying them all over. But when I was young I always thought Rolls-Royce was a German company because of this movie. Turns out they're a British company. The scene where they get on the zeppelin aka the blimp is interesting because the Hindenburg zeppelin blew up in New Jersey in 1937 killing some people. I think that disaster ended zeppelin travel, so I'm not sure people were taking zeppelins in 1938. The scene where Indy confronts his dad about his bad parenting, and in the end Indy is at a loss of what to say to his dad, that seems so true to life. When someone says something so dumb or so wrong, and you're like, "I don't know how to respond to this." I thought that scene was so well acted. I really enjoyed Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, i might not be as good as the trilogy but I thought it was fun.

Oh man, wish I had seen this pop up yesterday but better late than never. Glad you really enjoyed it. This is probably my favorite of the trilogy as well.
