My first dive into WWE (wrestling more specifically)! I'm actually hooked lol I loved this vid and will probably react to some matches in the future.

“For those who believe, no explanation is necessary; for those who don’t believe, no explanation will ever do.” A pro wrestler by the name of Jeff Jarrett said that for a documentary The Unreal Story of Pro Wrestling back in the late 90s. And I suppose it has always served me well whenever the topic comes up. I’ve watched wrestling since 1986, 1987, starting with Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n Wrestling and the quarterly Saturday Night’s Main Event on NBC. I suppose as a kid in the 80s, the big almost cartoonish style appealed to me. Add in some truly creative stories and characters and that’s a pretty fertile seedbed. I’ve been to a few live events, including a WrestleMania, since. Not as hardcore as I was between 1987 and 2002 or a revival while I was in college, but yeah, I still enjoy it and am happy to discuss and encourage anyone who wants to watch, especially this time of year with WrestleMania on Saturday and Sunday. Go for it! Be happy to encourage and provide recommendations if so interested.

I'm so glad you watched this. There's still more to professional wrestling that wasn't really explained in this but I think it did a great job at explaining a general idea of what professional wrestling is. I really hope you react to more videos on pro wrestling besides just the matches cause again there's a lot to learn about it. One thing that this video didn't cover was how even though UFC/MMA is a real contact sport and can be really violent, wrestling can also be extremely violent, whether on accident or on purpose. In the case of being on purpose, there are hardcore and deathmatches that can be really brutal with all the weapons and violence in them. Another thing that wasn't mentioned was how for the longest time, women's wrestling was considered an afterthought in WWE and the women were essentially exploited for their bodies. Thankfully women's wrestling in general is much more respected and beloved then it was years ago, especially in WWE cause it took them a lot longer compared to other wrestling companies to actually take women’s wrestling seriously. Also there is a pretty great but also sad wrestling documentary series called Dark Side of the Ring that I think it would be great to watch or react to as it each episode covers certain wrestlers or incidents within the wrestling business with interviews from the actual wrestlers and people behind the scenes of the wrestling business. And if you do, just letting you know the series is available for free on Tubi so you don't have to rent any episodes

A few followups for what has happened since this video was created: * Kenny Omega and several members of the Bullet Club went on to found All Elite Wrestling (AEW), which is now the #1 competitor to WWE and airs twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday nights). IMO it's got more skilled wrestling work while still having compelling stories, and seems to give its workers more creative control over their portrayals (which itself means more of a demand on them, so it comes down to whether wrestlers prefer to be told what to do or to come up with their own ideas). It even has several openly gay and trans wrestlers on its roster and is certainly the more outwardly inclusive of the two brands. (It also doesn't have the gruesome influence of Vince McMahon looming like a specter over it, so that's a thing.) One thing is for sure and that the emergence of AEW is good for all wrestling as it is legitimately pushing WWE to improve its product. * While CM Punk's complaints about WWE were 100% valid knowing what we know now about Vince McMahon's awful behind-the-scenes behavior (which also caught up a few other wrestlers in the blast zone such as Brock Lesnar), he went on to join AEW for about 18 months, and soon it came to be known that had quite an ego of his own that eventually got him fired for starting a backstage fight at a PPV in London. It was a strugglesome time for AEW because they appreciated the popularity he provided but it got to be too locker-room toxic to endure. * While it's never been confirmed Kenny Omega is bisexual, there's crickets from anyone trying to insist he's straight. Lots of AEW fans wait with bated breath for a continuation of the Golden Lovers saga, and the only thing holding it back is Kota Ibushi seeming to always be sidelined with injuries, and Kenny got diagnosed with diverticulitis in mid 2024, which is the kind of internal injury you don't fuck around with in terms of exertion on your abdomen.

Professional Wrestling is sick. Its kinda like drag in a way.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I have a weird relationship with wrestling. Used to watch it all the time all the way through High School but then just kind of stopped but still paid attention to it through social media and various Youtube clips for, you guessed it, the characters and story. Ultimately that's what it's about and I don't understand people that just done seem to get that and think that WE think it's all real and an actual fight. There are SO many great stories that have been told through wrestling and it would be awesome if you could have the more knowledgeable wrestling fans in your community either recommend videos like this or even actual matches to react to. I'd watch the hell out of those lol Oh, and to answer a question early in the vid, the reason the "curtain call" upset people in the business so much is basically the same reason why magicians would get super upset if someone just casually started telling the world how all their tricks were done because without the illusion, it means nothing. But as both communities eventually realized, knowing how this stuff worked honestly just made it MORE interesting and didn't ruin people's enjoyment of it.

I'd like to recommend maybe watching Villains in Wrestling by the same guy.
