This is definitely up there for me as one of my favorite Justice League episodes. I really like most characters who mess with your brain like Mysterio or Scarecrow, and Dr. Destiny is basically a more terrifying version of them. I like getting to explore the Justice leagues deepest fears/ how they used Batmans experience with working with little sleep and mental training to beat Dr. D. John J'onzz is cool here too Breaking people out of thier minds. Its definitely both a dark, but kinda fun episode, loved the scene with Batman in the coffee shop lol. I'm glad your enjoying this season so far, and I'm most excited for the two part episode you'll watch 3ish weeks from now, "A better world" is when shit REALLY picks up 👍

Kinda wish we could have seen what Wonder womans fear was/ what shes up to, but I figure that the VA was busy or they cut her for time

Love how we get to know each member of the league a little better with these two episodes. And in two weeks we will catch up with a member who has been absent this week and her relationship with another member of the team.

I almost forgot how amazing this episode and showcases just how powerful Martian Manhunter is but also showing that he is the heart of Justice League. You met a new Justice League villain in Doctor Destiny. He definitely is a scary villain not only when his face felt off but also his powers of being able to go into people's dreams and have them go through their fears, similar to Scarecrow. One thing different to how he gets his powers is the ESP machine called the Materioptikon, in the comics he gets his power from that as well except it's a mystical stone and not a machine. This episode was also the first time we see the old villains from BTAS and STAS since those shows with Volcana, Firefly and Luminus returning. So it was a good thing you watched those shows beforehand or else you probably wouldn't recognize them like I have seen others who watched this show but not BTAS and STAS first. I do like the way they handled everyone's fears in their dreams. Wally West Flash being that he's moving so fast that everyone around him is standing still and he becomes alone. I think that's something that Barry Allen and other speedsters fear as well because their always moving and they have to sometimes remember to slow down. With Superman, him being afraid of his powers increasing beyond his ability to control it that he kills those he loves. I thought the scene of him retreating back to Smallville and hiding in his baby rocket ship to be precious and sad. John Stewart's fear being so bonded to his Green Lantern ring that it alienates him from his people to where he can't understand or make himself understand their language. But the best part is seeing Martian Manhunter coming through and helping out his fellow League members. Really showing not only how powerful he is but that he's the heart of the team. I really hope James Gunn includes Martian Manhunter as a founding member of the Justice League in the DCU. Also this episode really shows a bit of what Batman has to deal with every night. Barely getting any sleep and also dealing with some of the worst criminals and in the worst conditions. This episode also not only showed Bruce's intelligence but how strong he is mentally. Though tbf, he was trained to be physically, mentally and emotionally strong so it doesn't surprise me that he can overcome quite a lot. But I'm glad you mention Batman going through and seeing the worse and being empathetic about it cause I feel like people often forget about what he goes through and give him a hard time. But this was a tremendous episode and I'm so glad you are continuing on with this DC train with these reactions. I can't wait for the next one cause it's the first episode the late great Dwayne McDuffie wrote since becoming a head writer this season. Also can't wait for Justice League vs Teen Titans for the next DCAMU reaction!!

“Are you sleeping? Are you sleeping? Brother John, Brother John, Morning bells are ringing! Morning bells are ringing! Ding, dang, dong. Ding, dang, dong.” I always have that song stuck in my head after watching it.

Doctor Destiny was introduced in Justice League of America issue 5 from 1961. In his first story he captures Green Lantern (Hal) and impersonates him. In further stories he would develop a drug to alter reality through dreaming, before ditching the drug for a ruby called the Materioptikon which he apparently created and was used for the same purpose. The Materioptikon is actually referenced in this episode as it what he calls the machine in the opening dream sequence. Interestingly he was never given a name in this early appearances. His most famous story would come in 1989 in the first arc of the book "Sandman" where his real name is revealed to be John Dee and the Materioptikon is actually revealed to be a magical Dreamstone. The stone is shown to have belonged to the powerful cosmic entity Dream of the Endless, the personification of the concept of Dreams themselves, and the ruler of the Dreaming, the realm where we all go to when we sleep. In one of the book's most famous issues John uses the stone to drive the world mad over the course of 24 hours in a diner before finally being confronted by Dream seeking his stone back. Dream of the Endless himself was once considered to appear in an episode of Batman the Animated Series but was ultimately scrapped. However Paul Dini would write Batman meeting the Dream and his sister Death in the comic "Dark night: a true batman story" that is partly based on IRL incident where Dini himself was mugged and nearly killed in 1993. By coincidence the Netflix adaptation of Sandman finishes tomorrow. Unfortunately the Sandman comic (which was often lauded as one of the best comics of the 90s, and certainly one of my favourites) has been tainted for many people due to the recent revelation that its writer, Neil Gaiman, is a massive POS as several particular disturbing sexual assault allegations have been made against him by multiple women in the last year or so. It is particularly hard for many to separate the art from the artist in this case as themes of sexual mistreatment of women do often come up in the comic, and one particular issue has some uncomfortable parallels to the IRL situation.

Batman's so cool, "my brain is not a nice place to be." Understatement of the century. I think the only info we have about Hawkgirl that she has shared so far was that she was chasing criminals across space and then fell into a trap and was teleported across the stars to Earth. She was teleported so far that she has no idea where her home planet is in relation to earth, or how to find home. So she's stranded on Earth, I think she shared this with j'onn j'onzz, and J'onn comments how similar Hawkgirl, Superman, and J'onn's situation is.

I tell ya that Dr. Destiny was just most troublesome in their sleep. Almost like Freddy Krueger in a way!

Are you sleeping? Are you sleeping? Brother John? Brother John? Morning bells are ringing Morning bells are ringing Ding ding dong Ding ding dong It makes sense that Batman was the most resistant- he's had to deal with similar stuff before with Scarecrow, though this is another order of magnitude. Given the name, I always thought Dr. Destiny was an archenemy of Dr. Fate, but apparently Destiny has always been a Justice League villain with only dream powers, no magic. Played by William Atherton, who has had a long career playing many villains but I mainly recognize as Walter Peck from Ghostbusters. Like your lottery example, John Dee probably could have won if he'd taken more time to refine and train in the use of his newfound powers instead of going for revenge immediately. But that's him in a nutshell- wants immediate power even if it means subjecting himself to a machine that could damage his mind, immediate gratification imagining all the other villains congratulating him, hates being ordinary. Ironically, all his nightmare worlds except Hawkgirl's involved tearing down the victim for what made them special. Or at least, what he *believed* made them special.

It's already been mentioned here but interestingly enough no wonder woman here, I WONDER (lol) what her's would've been.

Seeing Themiscyra and all her sisters destroyed by the nations of man, for it would be her fault for exposing them.

Doctor Destiny is one of my favorite JL rogues, he's just so creepy and haunting, and Luminus was a villain that appeared in Superman The Animated Series, you may remember him as the guy who tried to kill Lois after failing to impress her by helping in her investigation on Lexcorp. Great reaction as always Meg :D
