Johns whole journey leads to this. Becoming his own, it’s what Arthur would have wanted. Fuck this witch

PinchOfpeppers

This feels like a natural progression for me. Like I feel like it's led so well to this final choice. I know others are pointing out how 'whole' doesn't necessarily mean returning to being the King in Yellow, but I think it's returning to that mindset, re-embracing those values. It feels meaningful to me that John doesn't allow himself to be defeated by the hag. Doesn't bend to her will. Decides to still remain his own person.

If Arthur doesn’t recover from this then I’ll-… 😭😭😭😭😭

Veneza Shade

One thing that I’ve learned from this whole story is to become your own on your own terms, not what others thinks you are, no matter how hard it is. Stand on your ground.

Heather Bruce

With the *intentional* vagueness of language offered here, you gotta pick what you think is right. And I think John finally becoming his own, with or without Arthur, is the right call. Besides, he and Yorrik are totally vibing. They're ready to go on the road. To Hell.

(copied over from the chapter comments) So we all understand this is a trap, right? Like it couldn't be more obvious if there was a neon flashing sign above her head. Think about it. (Not to shame anyone for their choices, ofc, just. Come with me on this journey a sec pls). This whole encounter with the witch has been, play by play, from the abuser's emotional manipulation handbook. She keeps beating John down and beating him down, ripped his last comfort from him, and now, that he's at his lowest suddenly she's like, oh I want to help you. Come to mummy, dear, I can make it better. Make you strong again. Whole. Key phrasing, that. *Whole*. Not "I can reunite you with the king and make you a god in your own right again", no. Whole. Just sweet enough to be tempting, just vague enough not to actually tell us or John anything. Whole...at what cost, witch? Think. What does she stand to gain from this? She's clever, she wouldn't hand John a weapon he could then immediately turn against her to help himself or Arthur. Anyway. All this to say, this is a deal with the devil, John. Fucking hell, don't take it. Be your own person.

With everything John has been through, time and time again, it comes back to this. Though he may have started out as a fragment of the king in yellow, he truly, for what it's worth, is no longer the king in yellow. Once he'd gained his own thoughts and beliefs and personality beyond that of the king, he has literally separated that which made him a piece to what made him his own. No matter what, John is John. And he will overcome. This too shall pass...

This season's focused on John finding himself, as Harlan said. This is John's chance. Arthur wouldn't want him to give in to the witch after she called him out and *killed* Arthur- she's offering to help him now, and it's not right. And she was so vague in her offer that there's sure to be a catch; it's not as simple as she's making it sound. Plus-- she's under the impression that John is/wants to be a monster, when that goes against everything he's thought and become since season 1. He 'became whole' twice before this. Both times there was a complication and it backfired. She wants to put John back in that KiY mindset from the sounds of things. John can't give up on changing for the better after this, it's not him.

Alvinna

Booth John told us to consider everything we've learned so far so here's where I'm at. Being "whole" is the word the villains have kept using. KIY, Larson, and now the witch all has urged John to become whole again. It's never been what John wanted, not since he chose his own name. The goal was for him to be his own person. And it's not something Arthur came up with, John chose it for himself while Artur was in his coma. It's always been his choice, which Arthur has encouraged yes but which John has chosen over and over again when given the alternative. He doesn't want to be "whole", he wants to be his own.

eldritchunicorn

"We are of two minds and more and more, I’m realizing, two souls, as well. There is a bleed over effect but… you are something entirely your own, John." "Doe." "Yes. John Doe."

Flamia

This is what it's always been about. Believing in love and hope and keeping true to yourself in the face of an uncaring universe. WE STAY TRUE.

Lock

This was my first time voting! I agree with many that "whole" seems very equivocal and probably a trap.

Buttercup

I agree, I want him to be himself *without* Arthur. For him to be solely his own without Arthur's guidance. He's come a long way since season 1, he's been working towards this.

Heather Bruce

But, like, let's not have Arthur stay dead-dead. Or any dead. Living Arthur is my favorite flavor.

Theta

So who else is excitef for John's rage and grief filled quest to rescue Arthur from the dark world. Because I personally am hoping he goes full John Wick

Rook

Listen you can't give me the choice between becoming your own or becoming someone else's fucked up definition of "whole" and think I'm ever going to choose the latter. I'm too transgender to pick anything else lol. So whatever it means, you're your own John. And if someone questions that remind them why there's power in a name. Good luck bud.

HakureiRyuu

nine entire people voted for whole? wow, who hurt you

Buttercup

Oh, yeah, no. I fully agree. We need Arthur almost as much as John does. He's our favourite guy, who is also a punching bag for the eldritch horrors.

Buttercup

Who is voting for "whole"? I'd like to know the reasoning. /nf

Megs

She killed Arthur, then proceeded to explicitly state that she’s an enemy of goodness and that she wants to destroy John’s hope. The choice is clear. Do not let her win!

BeastlyDeath

John has come too far to just give in to some raggedy old maggot witch's desire to "make him whole." Regardless of what she believes, John is not the king that we know, and he has grown to care and feel for others. If Arthur is truly gone (I seriously hope not) then it would be a disgrace to his memory to give up after all this time. Grief hurts. And it makes you want to give up and fall into a place of darkness and that's exactly what she wants. Part of "being our own" is carrying the memories of those we've lost along the way. Also needs to tell jorick to find Cain so he can pop her like he did butcher or something

SoapCarver

Oh yeah, I forgot that they used this exact wording when trying to persuade- and then later force- John into doing what they believed was best for him. But then, John has always chosen his own path. Being "whole" was never the point, was it. I think it's telling that John has sacrificed regaining his old Power, over and over again, in order to continue being human.

SunnyStarStudios

I voted for whole, though mostly out of gut instinct. I think that the wording of this poll is confusing (likely intentionally). The way that Maggie talked of becoming whole leads me to believe this option is voting for how much power John holds over himself, whether or not John becomes more truly himself or decides to stay with Arthur. Im also very suspicious of how well things will go with a vote that seems unanimous, seeing how well that went last time, so it is also kind of just a vote against the crowd.

the_algid

I think being whole makes sense, because one of the main themes of the podcast is accountability. It's not a fresh start, it's just another step of the road. Yeah sure you've changed but that's still YOU. We saw that when John embraced the fact he was the KiY in season 2, and when Arthur didn't take the blank slate of the sunrise in season 3. Also I believe it's intentionally misleading

Nicky

We need to consider who of asking the question and why. Nothing about the Queen so far indicates she actually respects anything about John or what he believes or wants. She thinks of him as a monster that got brainwashed after being imprisoned. She doesn’t know him or what he was, so she only has her own bias to base what she thinks him being “whole” would be/mean. John doesn’t want to return to being the King in Yellow. I don’t think becoming fully his own means rejecting his past, but not using it as a guidepost of what his future has to be. The entire show has been about him figure out who he wants to be and this is an opportunity to respect and reinforce that

ALMOST 300 VOTES OMG

Cosmic.Codex

Okay but whole might mean with Arthur??? Are we really gonna do this?

Nicky

The Hag is the one asking. She seems to pretty clearly think Arthur was holding John back and would, therefore, not be a part of John being whole. Up to her, Arthur stays dead and maggot food either way. Any hope of getting him back would require defeating the Queen in some way.

are you garlic bread

My opinion....But the hags definition of whole might mean becoming one with the maggots, just like her ....

Benjamin Wigler

I have a feeling if integration is the theme, booth John might get drawn into the actual plot. He’s been awfully direct lately.
