this episode was INCREDIBLE, I just have to highlight how much I'm impressed with the writing of dialogue and character motivation-plus the voice acting on John and Arthur-so real and emotional, their relationship this season is so captivating and heart wrenching to watch. Just incredible incredible work

After a re-listen I feel so sorry for poor Gerard, especially after so many chapters defending him. Feels like all that effort was spoiled (in a good way). I’m glad we tried our best anyways, and even gladder it seems he’s died quite quickly. I felt like defending Gerard (or the truth I suppose) really defined Arthur’s character the last few chapters, made him distinct from the others, opened up a narrative path that was so good (the A vs B ring fight), and also shaped the others’ impression of him that might get some pay off (esp with regards to Evrard). I mean it already has with the Friar! It’s made him a lot calmer and revealed his character more + doubt he’d have trusted us in the end otherwise + helped eke out more of Barnabas’ chara by having us foil him so often. So you did your job Gerry!

I wish we could’ve somehow interacted with Langward more. I was actually conflicted about him in the poll asking us who to speak with bc I had a feeling we wouldn’t have another chance to speak to him (I didn’t expect much info payoff from it tho). Idk if any future eps or something else could feature that. Maybe the next special episode if there is one, like that Christmas one. I can’t help but be interested in seeing his character a little more, esp after his look of concern at Arthur’s coughing - so at odds with his forceful distance, and with Evrard seeming to almost single him out. And then he’s the first to die!
