Oh thank god we're all on the same page lmao

Quinn

Hide. Immediately. If /something/ is there, it’s better to err on the side of caution and assume it intends to harm them rather than help them or be neutral to them. So, staying still could (hopefully) prevent whatever it is from locating them directly or immediately. ALSO, we have seen moving forests before, and I am worried the trees might be harmful to touch. So, if Arthur tries to use a trunk to relocate his shoulder, it could end up being MUCH worse than waiting to reset it later. As Evrard said: “The goats wood trees are not what they seem” —-Perhaaaaps we don’t touch them.

Veneza Shade

For now I choose Hide & Wait. Why? Even though my first instinct is to fix Arthur as soon as possible for him to have higher chances of survival, right now I think it's more wise to listen to John. It may be possible that these Trees could be similar to the Woods in Dreamlands, and there also were some creatures lurking in the darkness and staying quiet for a while saved Arthur's life. He can still run and John still has his arm so they aren't *that* powerless, so they should just wait a little to know what they are dealing with. I'm excited for other opinions too! Let the poll begin...

Quinn

Same. I have valid arguments for both, but I really don’t think Arthur should touch a mysterious tree right now lol

Breanne Valerie

I say hide and wait. Arthur won’t be able to put a shoulder back into place without making a lot of noise. Also assuming he’ll be able to finish doing that before triggering a coughing fit

Ochy Dochy

Ah yes, for the umpteenth year in a row, the cursed Ochy Good Boy coin once more leaves the hand I put it in... oops. Let's reset that darn shoulder and get outta here!

Nicky

Arthur has already made a lot of noise falling, shouting at Evrard, talking to John, and could bust into another coughing fit at any time. I’d rather get the arm back in place now so Arthur has more mobility and options for defense / action before whatever’s moving around comes up to him and he’s stuck. And if the trees aren’t friendly, we’ll be finding that out sooner or later, why not while getting the arm fixed?

BuriedInTheArchives

We're told the trees are not all they seem. I think it might be too much of a risk to use one to reset Arthur's shoulder if the trees themselves are alive. Arthur keeps losing bits of himself to sentient forests.

Marina Bennett

Hide and wait. We don’t need to be hasty here, and something is up with these trees. We need to be able to trust the trees in order to reset the shoulder, and I don’t think we can. Let’s let John scope out the situation, it may be the best way for us to reset our shoulder and get our bag.

Alexi

at least john has any idea about their surroundings

Lettie Black

Normally I’d say reset Arthur’s shoulder as soon as possible, but both John and Evrard said the trees are strange, so touching them doesn’t seem like a great idea. Not sure how well Arthur can hide with those coughing fits, though.

Scottie

I am begging you all here, please for the love of all that's Malevolent, let Arthur take action here instead of passively waiting for something to happen to him. HUG THAT TREE!

Thomas Breijinck

We’re also in a moment where we’re trusting John (as we said when entering the castle) and I think we’re doing Arthur a disservice if we negate that because we’re scared (hide and wait)!

Edgar Umlas

idk about y’all but im not in the mood to get tickled by a tree. i urge you to pick the smart choice that doesn’t involve getting anywhere near that dastardly plant

keyraven

My vote is for RESET SHOULDER. Arthur has already made lots of noise (yelling at Evrard), hit a tree on his way down, and is holding the lighter. Whatever is lurking in the forest, it already knows Arthur is there. Hiding isn't going to work. Arthur has a moment now, but it might not last long. We should reset that shoulder while we have the chance, so Arthur can retrieve his stuff and deal with any threats.

Armitage

SHOULDER. They’ve already lost the advantage of stealth and have no exit or chance of fighting to gain by reclaiming it. Only mission should be to get as ready to fight or escape as possible as quickly as possible.

Dirthawker

Just joined, this is the first vote I get to experience and it's SOOOO GOOD I can't believe I got here just in time for a new scary hole. John's intuition is mostly shit when it comes to people, right? For unseen eldritch predators I trust his call.

Sam

Hide and wait, little lamb, your arm isn’t getting anymore dislocated

Abby-May Burkin

I believe in trusting John. He may have been seeing things that aren't actually there in the past, but Arthur needs him now. While I fully agree with the practicality of Arthur needing his arm/shoulder fixed, I don't want him close to those trees. What if there's more than one creature? Or even more likely - what if it's the trees themselves?

Heather Bruce

Weak and severely injured is bad. Touching a tree also bad but seems less so? I hate this.

Quinn

And this season is more John-centric/focused on John and his development as a person! Let’s put some faith in him 🖤

blacklightRIOT

bro i dunno how arthur is even upright at this point dude has more holes in him than an ant corpse in a haunted orphanage

Ochy Dochy

John, besty, be a doll and pop that sucker back in for us, wouldya? As it stands Arthur only has ONE LEG to use

Anna Scribbles

Hiding is likely a lost cause at this point, but WAITING is what I’m banking on. YES his shoulder is bad, but SO ARE THOSE TREES. We have TWO sources (John and Everard) telling us that those trees are BAD NEWS. So just NOT TOUCHING THEM is my vote.

Autumn

Originally I was very much on the hide side, because, you know, trees are a lie But!! I have been flipped - Evrard could be lying to scare us, and it’s been established John is spooked by the dark and it is *very* dark, with the lighter not even being able to illuminate the trees properly (fish pointed this out to me) - If touching trees harmed us we would already be dead since we fell through one on the way down - We have already been loud (landed in a pit, plus now we have a light source) the bad things have likely already found us - fish again rightly mentioned how our arm would impede movement speed But the biggest thing though **Bag Anxiety** I hate being separated from the bag i have heart palpitations every time I think about it - if Arthur resets his arm he has a better chance of being able to retrieve it

Fisher

In this chapter it stuck out to me how John goes from saying that the darkness is too deep that the light from the lighter doesn’t even reach the trees around them, then to saying that he can see something beyond the trees, then to being certain that there is something up against a tree ahead of them. It makes me question his perception, and I don’t like how BJ made a comment pointing out his intuition so plainly. I worry that waiting and hiding is only going to leave Arthur in a weaker state than he already is. I don’t trust the trees at all. But because Arthur literally fell through one screaming, made a fuckton of noise, I have to assume that if something is down here it’s already aware of his presence. And in that case the best thing I think Arthur can do is prepare himself while he’s already at such a physical disadvantage. I don’t expect Arthur to find anything BETTER he can reset his shoulder against. John’s also suggesting they hide and wait right next to the tree! If it’s gonna snatch Arthur, it’s gonna no matter what!

Puck

just gotta comment and say I love your username 😂

Tel

Okay but if we reset shoulder we get to hear the resulting grunts and whimpering so

Luna_de_maria

John has taken care of us so far in the castle, and he understand Eldritch/magical things better than us. If he's saying wait, there's no reason to rush. They're better off assessing the danger before Arthur attempts to reset his shoulder. If John is wrong, there's no loss to it, they can reset his shoulder later. If John is right, we not only undermind his advice but we put Arthur in a place to get mauled/attacked with a dislocated shoulder while going to reset it. We should wait, it has nothing but benefits

Nicky

Waiting has the potential drawback of leaving resetting the arm until too late for Arthur to be able to do anything effective in defending/helping them

Nicky

Apparently this space is huge - what else is he going to use? Hope would he find/get to an outer wall without going through the trees?

Luna_de_maria

By that logic, if there is danger coming so quickly he won't get a chance to reset his arm-that means by not waiting he puts himself in the middle of the danger. By hiding, if there is danger coming, they can wait a moment for it to pass/find a safer spot to reset his arm. If there's no danger he can reset his arm afterward.

Nicky

What does waiting really gain? If the thing is real and a threat, it isn’t going anywhere far - what are they going to do when they have to move / face something? Leave it fully to John? Even if so, leaving the arm is going to interfere with how Arthur moves and impact John’s ability to do anything with his arm. Waiting is delaying Arthur and John’s ability to navigate and deal with their surroundings and situation

Lambda

I think we really need to set his arm before anything else. Arthur's hanging on by a thread - we made such a noisy entry that anything down here definitely already knows we're here. We aren't hidden from anything right now, and taking a moment to set his arm means that we're operating at like, -5 capacity instead of -7. We need every advantage we can give Arthur physically.

Fisher

Arthur is not going to be able to successfully hide. If anything is coming to get him immediately he can’t just stand there and wait. He’s literally put up a signal flare basically by screaming and falling through the sky and then shouting even more at Evrard. I don’t think Arthur can successfully hide from anything that’s coming, especially if something is close by. So why not take the chance to reset his shoulder when he’s got the moment to?

keyraven

What does waiting accomplish? Arthur has already lost stealth - it's unlikely he hasn't been noticed by these (possible) creatures. Waiting might grant us some more information on what the creatures are, but we'll still need to reset the shoulder in order to react. Even with additional information, we can't fight/get away with a dislocated shoulder.

blacklightRIOT

arthur approaches the edge of a hole and we're back here ripping a vape like "do a flip!"

Sophie

I vote to wait. "The Goatswood trees are not all they seem." Is what Evrard said. The Book of Armitage in Malevolent Part 2 gives hint of what live in the Goatswood. I also invite you to Google those creatures mentionned in Part 2 and read the description in the HP Lovecraft wiki. I do not want Arthur to touch the trees. I also trust John who had pretty good instincts since they arrived at the castle.

Nicky

There have been times a possible course of action is discussed, the vote is phrased more generally and wins, and they don’t follow through exactly as proposed , but according to the more general concept. The phrasing is Hide & Wait (what would they hide behind? Trees?) Or Reset shoulder (not reset against a tree)

Lambda

Arthur needing John has nothing to do with John has always been jumpy in the dark. Our noisy ass entry has already blown stealth, and you're right in what if it's the trees themselves - in which case, we're already noticed. Also, what are they going to hide behind? There's nothing really here BUT the spooky trees. I don't like touching them either, but if we want to survive whatever it is, the arm needs reset.

Autumn

Bonus point for resetting the shoulder (elaborating from Nicky on the discord) Sure Arthur may suggest doing it against a tree but after John says they look scary he might not even decide to do that The vote is to RESET THE SHOULDER, it doesn’t necessarily require it to be reset *against a tree* Hiding, on the other hand, would require getting way closer to the trees since they seem to be the only thing providing cover So what may seem counterintuitively, there may be less of a potential to touch the trees if we reset our shoulder than try to hide, presumably, amongst them

Luna_de_maria

Again, we don't want to rush into a tree for Arthur to get senselessly hurt after we've gotten multiple warnings from Everard, & John. If something is coming, they need more information. This is about survival, not fighting. If Arthur & John hide, nothing stops them from resetting his shoulder at a later time. If they charge out, something absolutely could injure Arthur worse that he could not fix his shoulder and now has a second wound. Waiting to touch the body worked out in this survival situation since we made an intellectual choice, and we touched the body at a another time. The same can be said here about Arthur's arm. He will get a chance to reset it, but ignoring John and Everard's warning, doesn't make any sense in this situation and is just a choice of anxiety and impatience.

Jellybean

please consider the cool noises of bones crunching from arthur resetting his shoulder 🙏

Scottie

Tis the season of Die Hard. Do not wait. Take action.

Veneza Shade

Yeah you know what yall, I take back what I said before, RESET THE SHOULDER

Sophie

I wanted to hide&wait because Arthur wanted to use the spooky tree to reset the shoulder. But he said that before John told him that the trees seems dangerous. Let's reset the shoulder and hope Arthur change his mind on how he will do it.

Scottie

Yall, I want to talk about the vote back in Harper's Hill for a second. That was another wait vs take action vote, and while hearing Arthur play the piano with John is one of my favorite moments in season 1, we missed out on an entire story line because of that choice. It's very rare for Harlan to tell us where the other path would have lead but he has revealed this one. We could have had cop talk. We could have had Arthur being a detective. We could have had an interview with the killer. We could have had another person twisted by the King in Yellow. This is one of those votes. I am literally begging you. Do not force him into being passive in this moment. Please, let him take action. Please vote shoulder.

Kass

waiting has literally never worked out well for us

Foxalis Corvidox

I think John has some valid reasons to be cautious. Going near the trees could be bad if they are anything like the trees in the Dreamlands. And it's not like he won't reset his shoulder AT ALL, it'll just be reset a little later when he hopefully gets to a possibly safer spot. I think listening to John is a good call on this one.

Queen

please imagine how insane arthur is going to sound if he waits to anyone who doesn’t have the opportunity to listen to all the good reasons you had for voting to wait. please the public will be so mad we didn’t reset the shoulder

Jinks050

i was considering waiting around but being as pitch black as it is, not much of it will help hide from something you can’t see much like in the Mines. What allows more opportunities to survive is resetting the shoulder and getting the bag back and also getting to higher ground. The trees have eyes sure but not everywhere. If it’s the kind of beast I think it is, they can’t look up. Plus Arthur is already in a spat with John for betraying his trust so this would be something he’d rather prioritize out of pettiness.

Isi

Hold strong wait voters! The last thing we want is to run straight into a gaping tree maw because we don't know what's safe yet, or to disregard John's warning like we did with the zombie prince. Sure it's possible he's being dramatic, but given we were explicitly told the trees aren't what they seem, and that this is an underground location where trees normally shouldn't grow in the first place, I think John's concerns are valid. It's not passive to let him assess a totally unknown situation, and hiding/waiting has been a good decision plenty of times in the past, such as in the dreamlands forest. Just give John a moment to gauge what's going on first!

blacklightRIOT

anyway playing hide n seek with one of your slappers just flappin in the breeze seems untenable lmfao

Queen

Please flip to setting Arthur’s shoulder so that WHEN- not if- he encounters a dangerous creature he has a chance to defend himself. Waiting to assess the situation will only equip him with knowledge which is useless if you cannot take action.

Foxalis Corvidox

Okay but hear me out... There are no safe trees in Ba Sing Se

MemeticHygienist

Okay look, Evrard don’t know Arthur & John. He thinks they’re just some sickly shitty aristocratic prince. He don’t know what they know. And seemingly they themselves have forgot that they have A WOODEN PINKY FINGER ~GIFTED TO THEM BY A CARNIVOROUS FOREST. I think going to reset his shoulder could trigger a spooky event, that could then lead to the goatswood trees recognizing him as fam or friend.

MemeticHygienist

Also, he made sO much noise in the process of falling and being upset. There’s no way that thing doesn’t exactly where he is. It lives there. This is plausibly dinner time.
