I can see this one going tits up either way, since Arthur is VERY bad at lying outright, and still not in the best physical shape. However, if the plan is to use our current knowledge to imply a broader understanding of the situation, it might (MIGHT!) go fine. Also, uh, I personnally think punching people as a first resort is bad!

We know Oscar's worried about being culpable in this, about having his involvement known. Bluffing could be pretty effective given that. He seems scared and doesn't want to be involved. Give him a way out without turning to violence. Arthur's also not in the best condition physically, and while we don't know how Oscar looks strength-wise, it seems like picking an unnecessary fight is maybe not the best idea right now. He could also tell Marie if we push him too much, which could be an issue given we're planning on staying in her house? If we play nice, he may be more inclined to not say anything? Also, we want to set a good example for John, and I think that means not immediately resorting to violence. There's a time and place for that, but I don't think that's now and here.

I'm uncomfortable with physically threatening people who so far haven't given us any cause to. Definitely bluff.

I can see bluffing going poorly, but if Author peeled back the edge of madness and hinted at the inconceivable things he's endured... I think it would work

So, John can either learn that the Arthur-approved method for being a good person allows for violence or for deceit when in pursuit of the greater good. Interesting.

well we have to set a good example for our entity dont we

MY biggest concern is simply that if he roughs up the guy Marie first turned to for help, Marie is gonna turn on him and we will find out what happened to her husband the hard way 😂

It's also in a way, an indirect answer to John's question "is it okay to lie if it's to help/for the greater good"

Horsebone

Oscar's already plenty scared, Arthur just needs to find the right buttons to push

amber

This is not gonna go well 🤣 arthur cant lie for the life (or death) of him

YES, ARTHUR. TURN ON YOUR RIZZ, ARTHUR.

Jess

That's what makes it interesting! It raises the stakes. Either we make a problematic choice or we decrease the likelihood of Arthur getting vital info from John. I'm not entirely convinced that's a bad thing, though. The last person who tried to tell Arthur something he wasn't "supposed" to know mysteriously bled out -- from the eyes -- in front of him.

Punching people is the worst way to get the immediate results, but I think we need to look at this from a longer term perspective. Just as "untying" was the obviously right, yet not ideal decision, this one seems fairly obvious and is likely to bite us back in ways we won't like. We don't need John to get any better at lying to us. As much as I hate violence, we're better at pushing back on John when he gets angry than seeing through his lies. Plus the ability to have John help protect us against physical threats may be more useful since we're usually in control of what we say.

P.I. 101 is *avoiding* physical altercations, not *initiating* them at the drop of a hat.
