Voting basement specifically because John didn’t notice it. Something about his perception doesn’t want us to get to the end of this puzzle (keys, missing the exit, etc.) and I think this is another of those moments.

Arthur is making some BIG assumptions with his conclusion that Edward Allen summoned Hypnos to escape poverty. Especially, considering that, even before the summoning, Allen had a second home in the most expensive city in the country. Not to mention that Hypnos is a weird choice for financial stability. (Oscar pointed out that they don't know why Allen chose Hypnos yet.) If Arthur moves forward without a solid understanding of what happened here and why, he's likely to make mistakes he can't afford. To understand, he needs to know more about the Allen family. That information is upstairs. I don't think we should have Arthur walk into John's blindspot with a hunch if we can get him facts.

I think that upstairs is a good call. I’m hoping that we’ll be able to find some personal effects of Allen, perhaps even a journal, that might give us some further insight on what exactly he was capable of and how he went about the ritual. I also get the sense that if we don’t look upstairs now, we’ll lose the opportunity to. On a meta level, the basement is the typical option for creepy shit, so maybe it’s a fakeout and the important info we need is upstairs after all? I keep remembering in season 1 when patrons voted against searching upstairs of the widow’s house and thus missed out on gathering more information about her. I also don’t feel like we have any real time limit that’s forcing us to go fast; a methodical investigation, I think, is the only way we’ll have a chance at figuring out another solution to Scratch, and we need to gather as much information as possible.

I definitely wanted to jump right into that Evil Dead basement, but I think folks are making some great points about learning more if we can. My vote goes to the spooky attic for clues over the spooky basement!
