This episode is crazy!! And your reaction did not disappoint!! I really can’t wait for tomorrow to get you full thoughts on the finale and season 3 as whole. I think i’ll save my big comment regarding this final two episodes for tomorrow but i wanted to at least touch on the Peter and Olivia connection that takes an even bigger center stage than before in this episode, you threw around the term soulmates and i think they are probably the dictionary definition of it, their connection (along with Peter and Walter’s) is at the very heart of the show and it runs so much deeper than you initially think when starting the show, Olivia’s powers are specifically connected to Peter in some form, every single time so far in the show where Olivia displayed her powers at their maximum capacity he was at the center of it, even when they weren’t connected romantically like with the lightbulbs bomb from season 1 that is mentioned in this episode, if you go back and look her powers only start to work when Peter comes back into the room, same thing happened in the flashback episode, we saw that when she got scared she briefly activated her powers either by crossing over or burning things but it’s only when she is with Peter in that field that she can control it willingly. I just love how much the show puts the relationship between the characters at the center of the story and not just alongside it, the love that Walter had for Peter is what caused him to cross over for this first time which then created a chain reaction of events that led them to this moment where the love that Olivia has for Peter will allow him to enter the machine and try to fix the damages that his father created, which is why when some people lament that the plot of season 3 gets a little too convoluted it just baffles me because all you need to know to understand it is Olivia’s phrase that she was typing in this episode which perfectly explains the plot of the season “be a better man than you father” that’s what the season is all about Peter trying to not make the same mistakes his father made and actually fix the damage done so far , the machine itself is just the sci-fi plot device that allows for that to happen. Sorry i said i would save my long comment fo tomorrow but i could help myself, i just love this show and this characters so much. On to episode 22 we go and boy i really wanna see your face when the final scene of the season happen and hear your thoughts after, here we go!! P.S. In regards to your question as to why Walter didn’t try to make Olivia cross over to interact directly with that machine personally think it would have been just has hard as activating it from this side, not in terms of effort required because on that front it probably would have been easier but more so logistically, i don’t think Walternate would have given Olivia the time she needed to activate it on the other side, there probably would have been guards around the machine that would have stopped and even if she managed to she probably would have been captured after, so i think overall trying to activate it from this side probably had a much higher chance of success and much lower possibility of Olivia getting hurt.

You're feeling exactly the way we felt when we saw it ;)

I always start intending to just share a thought or two, but am Wordy McWorderson when I get going, so I feel ya on the intentions!

Yeah and especially with this show there is just so much to explore that as i’m writing a comment about one subject three more pop up in my mind and i go completely off the rails XD.

walter's pep talk to olivia is so beautiful and touching! yes, he's absolutely screwed her over and messed her up in the past and that's a whole mess, but he also really loves her here and now

Great reaction Dakara, as always! I love them! I don't know why I watched it now, I should have waited until the 22nd and watched them together, but it was fun to see how you try to figure out what will happen. In my case, it's been a month or so since I finished the series, and I think it's been about three months since the end of the third season. I can hardly remember what I thought at the time. My family, who had already seen the series, had previously told me that I would be surprised by the series, but that can mean many things, and I didn't give it any more thought... Now I understand! This series is very unpredictable for some things, and yes, it surprises you. The little I remember of what I thought when I saw this episode is the initial shock of seeing Peter in the future, that's for sure, and to think that the machine also works to travel to the future. It didn't cross my mind that it was anything else, the machine had sent him to the future. But most of all, I was upset to go to the future all of a sudden and worried that the last episode would be about the future and not see what was happening in the present until the next season. Luckily, it was only for a moment when I remembered I could watch it all at once without having to wait 🤣

Regarding your observations about connection between Peter and Olivia, let me add another small titbit - in season 1, the episode where we meet Nick Lane for the first time, Walter has Olivia under hypnosis so she could link to Nick and track him, and she experiences pole-dancer's death and starts freaking out - Walter tells Peter to calm her down, and Peter puts his hand on Olivia's and holds her, and Olivia IMMEDIATELY calms down...

Despite being entirely engaged with the plot, when Peter first left his hospital room into that silent hallway, I had to snicker at getting a blast from the past. They were clearly filming the hospital bits at Riverview, a common location in Vancouver. As Peter wandered down the hall toward the nurses' station, I flashed back to seeing Dean Winchester wander down a nearly identical silent hallway toward that same nurses' station in the Supernatural S2 premiere, filmed in 2006, when Dean was having an out-of-body experience. I wonder if you recognized that subconsciously Dakara, as you asked if perhaps what he was experiencing wasn't real... The end of this season has just tightened the screws more and more, ever since that last bit of 3x16 when Bell took over Olivia. Even the ep that seemed a bit off, 1x17, about the woman who couldn't die, I've felt like the overarching plot has just become more and more tense. Glad you're enjoying the journey, even if you're frustrated by the twists and turns being wholly unpredictable! I'm not frustrated with watching you try to figure it out, but appreciate your willingness to theorize out loud. A lot of folks are unwilling to be that wrong - or unexpectedly right - in such a public way. Hats off to you making yourself that open. I know my reaction to the end of this ep on first watch was "Ex-CUSE me? WTF?" I know we'd all become used to parallel worlds, but now time travel? This show does NOT talk down to its viewers, and expects us to keep up! Looking forward to watching the finale tonight when I get home from work - where I'm headed to shortly.

Yeah i was discussing that specific moment with someone on twitter recently and it’s pretty obvious that even that early in the show they were setting up their link to be something more important that would be developed later on, i like to imagine that Olivia’s subconscious in that moment remembered their moment in the field of tulips and that’s why she calmed down just like she did when they were kids.
