Hello All!

Peter is missed but his essence remains! Lincoln is so bloomin' cute! Glad to see him again for sure. There are still a lot of unanswered questions but it's just 1 episode, I gotta be patient. The ones standing out for me right now are;

Fauxlivia still stole Liv's life after kidnapping her - why and how did they get to this point?

The machine remains but why was the machine built if the war was never triggered from Walter stealing Peter, there must be another event but what event?

Peter is still around, where is he currently and how?

Where is Nina, Sam, Walternate, Elizabeth, Charlie, Ella, and more I'm sure?

We did some answers too, Walter is living at the lab and still has a great relationship with Astrid and Olivia but I can see a difference in him without Peter. Fauxlivia is still very cocky around Liv and is enjoying teasing her to our Olivia's annoyance. The pathway to the two world is well and truly open but there is high government clearance to visit and no one is to know I'm assuming?

I discuss further in my outro but yes - clearly I have a lot to say haha - it's brilliant! Look forward to hearing from you all in the comments and thanks so much for watching,

Much love

Season 4 here we go!! You are finally in my favourite season and i couldn’t be happier! New season, new timeline as they say (no? XD), there are a lot of changes in the timeline with the “removal” of Peter and i put that in quotation for a reason that will be explained fully later on even though we got a hint at Peter’s fate in this new timeline when Walter was talking to Lincoln and said “people die, sometime they die twice” as you caught in the episode, but again we will discuss that more later on when more details of the new timeline will be revealed. Obviously the two most affected characters by this change in the timeline are Walter and Olivia and it’s hard to say who’s been affected more between the two because on a first glance Walter seems to be the one that has been turned pretty much upside down, much more introverted and disconnected and physically scared to leave the lab but Olivia has changed drastically too, her demeanor compared to how we left her at the end of season 3 is almost night and day and once again i gotta give mad props to the actors because from the first second they are on screen you can tell immediately that they are not the same characters that we have been following for 3 seasons and it’s heartbreaking but at the same time incredibly captivating to watch. Again don’t give yourself too much of a headache in trying to figure out how the new timeline fits together because in time all of the pieces will be revealed, you were incredibly focused in this episode and i don’t think you missed any major new timeline reveal. All of the little hints and dialogue they have in this episode about Walter and Olivia missing something but not knowing what always break my heart especially the “he had nothing to tether h to the world line” always gets me chocked up, prepare to get you heart broken by Walter this season many many times. Blue verse Lincoln is back! And he already fits very well in the gang, he definitely bring a different vice that Peter does but he still has great chemistry with the others of the group and i’m going to be curious about your opinion on him as the season progresses. The exploration of the Fauxlivia/Olivia relationship is one of many things that i love about the season, i just love what they do with them. Overall i would say that the main reason this is my favourite one is because of the much closer connection between the two universes and how the show evolves thanks to that, it truly feels like a brand new world and the possibilities are endless. Ok i’ve written way too much already so i’ll leave it at that, great reaction as always and i can’t wait for you to continue! P.S. I laughed out loud at your face when Walter said “there’s nothing worse than two people are mean to be together and something interferes” and the camera focuses on Olivia XD, yeah subtle…. P.S.S. The partner that Olivia refers to in this episode is John because she talks about the fact that he was exposed to a chemical that made his skin translucent but without Peter in this timeline Walter was not able to save him in time (unlike in the og timeline) and he died so Olivia probably never found out about all of the undercover stuff he was doing.

Confession time: S4 is where Fringe lost me. It took me by surprise to see that it's some peeps favourite season. I'm hoping this rewatch will change my mind tho.

When the Observer is sitting in front of that church, looks at it/at the cross, and decides NOT to press the button to completely erase traces of Peter from the timeline, I firmly believe that what goes through his mind is: "Who am I to play God?!"

El

Yup, same. I remember seeing the end of S3 and thinking it would have worked well as a series finale, and I still think that. It was a near perfect episode of television and concluded the arc of the first three seasons amazingly. But then there was more, and I think S4 lost me before it even started, because I didn't think the story really needed to continue in the first place. So being kind of biased against it from the start definitely didn't help me enjoy it, independent of its actual quality. I'm hoping that this rewatch, plus Dakara's comments and observations, help me to see it in a new light.

Katie

Oh interesting. Seasons 4 and 5 are my favourite. I love the creativity and I think the core themes of Fringe are far more prominent in the final two seasons. To me season 5 has a perfect ending.

considering their history, i would consider fauxlivia's "teasing" as more "cruel mocking" but whatever lol interestingly, i actually see MORE similarities between the two olivias now; without peter (and still post-john), olivia's brashness when handling others reminds me of an angrier fauxlivia, much less patience or flexibility, and more closed off to the point of missing things i feel like she's normally see (i.e. the woman sitting alone). maybe i'm wrong about that last point but she's usually so good at read people, women especially walter and bell still would've done the cortexiphan trials for fear of reprisal from walternate/redverse because whether or not peter lived, walter still broke the worlds. so i imagine the hole in her life olivia's talking about came from never meeting peter in that tulip field because even though she didn't remember it, it obviously still affected both of them deeply anyway, i love lincoln so much anyway pt2, GOOD MAN, SEPTEMBER!

I feel like I should expand on my comment. This was not a controversial opinion back in the day lol S1-3 to me had a structurally sound narrative and adequate pacing of it. The overarching mystery surrounding Peter was beautifully introduced in S1 and equally beautifully expanded in S2. I think it was very tight storytelling and I found it truly satisfying to watch. The cracks to me started appearing halfway through S3. They started multiplying new questions and completely unnecessary plotlines (ugh don't get me started on the cringe that was Bell!Olivia), and what it uncovered is the utter lack of preplanning. It's the thing I have dreaded from the moment I saw it was a JJ Abrams creation. (I don't care what anyone says, that man is a hack). But still the S3 finale kind of worked. Not my favourite way of resolving a mystery and since then I've seen it done much better but it ended the story. Except like @El said it didn't because S4 wants us to believe there's so much more to it. And to me it felt like someone filming a Jacob's Ladder scenario and then doing its sequel lol it didn't make sense back then but I'm hoping I will be less critical of it this time around.

Couldn’t agree more, by the time season 3 was concluding they had written themselves in so many corners that a timeline reset was pretty much the only way forward and imo they used the reset wonderfully and season 4 feels almost like an improved season 2 to me, where we get the case of the week but also have an overarching plot to go along with it but the difference with season 2 is that now the two universes are connected and that allowed them to explore many more characters in much more depth which is way i totally agree that season 4 is the one where the core themes of Fringe are at their purest and thanks to that they were then able to build a solid foundation for season 5 to close it all up in a satisfying way.

While i mostly agree with your analysis of season 3 (especially when it comes to the Bellivia arc) i also think that the way they handle season 4 was pretty much they only way forward for the show and i really think it allowed them to go back to the basics of season 1/2 and move (mostly) away from the all encompassing mysteries of season 3, i honestly think that season 4 is the final form of the show started in season 1, with both world connected and interfacing with each other giving us much greater possibilities to explore the characters and their alternate versions and then you put in Peter’s storyline in the season and i think it works so well. I hope to hear your thoughts though as you rewatch this season to see if maybe something changes.

It's so sad to see so many comments here from people who don't get the show that well. Every story in this show is a masterpiece in my opinion (at least the overarching ones). Peter being around as a grown up in our universe was never things as intended (from the Observer's interference) and this timeline is as it should be, without Peter. It makes so much sense, I don't know how people don't get that. Peter activating the machine and starting healing the damage that Walter created started making things right (remember in the flashback, Walter was the cautious one, convincing Bell that they shouldn't cross the line). Love this season, there are so many emotional episodes and the actors are giving their all. We also get more from the Observers and we learn more about them. I can't say more due to spoilers, but don't let the naysayers distract you from enjoying the show. It's brilliant and I am sure you will see it. Can't wait to watch more.

Totally agree that every season of this show is great in it's own way. Future seasons... past seasons.... all fantastic! The plots in this show are so tight too. I recently did this thing where I watched the show in a different way. Like I would watch episode 1 of each season and then episode 2 of each season and so on and so forth. What it did was it made me realize that they set up huge plots that were resolved like 4 or 5 seasons later. And nothing contradicts or gets in the way of the plots making sense. It's these threads that go through the entire show or half the show and nothing ever breaks the thread in terms of continuity. Not a lot of shows feel planned out. Sometimes for better or worse it feels like they are planning stuff as they go. They are flying by the seat of their pants. But the writers of this show said that they planned out about 5 overarching plots all throughout the show at the beginning and you really see and feel it.
