Walter, if you were wrong and you couldn't have saved Olivia...Oh my days...I dread to even think...Lets see what ep 19 has to offer and then season 5 starts next week!

Much love

I have been waiting since ep2.1 to post this comment (only NOW it is not a spoiler!) Remember when Olivia is in a coma in the hospital (having flown through the windscreen/windshield), and doctor tells Peter and Walter: "Nothing can be done. Human brain simply does not recover from this kind of trauma". The doctor is quite correct. That is - a normal human brain! But a human brain treated with Cortexiphan in early formative years, well ... In the last episode, Walter explains to Astrid that Cortexiphan has amazing regenerative properties... And Olivia was repeatedly doused with Cortexiphan recently, as a nice top-up! I love it when things are properly set up quite some time in advance, when showrunners clearly know what they are doing (btw, the same applies to Expanse)!

I caught up a few days ago and kept going and am halfway through S5. I'm trying to take it slow since there's so few episodes in the last season, but I'm about 2/3 through. 🥲

Originally this was going to be the finale, but the episode you haven't seen yet, was shown as S04E19 on purpose at the time, to tease the fan base and rally up people. At the time Fox received tenth of thousands of letters and emails from fans to not cancel the show. Season 5 was then greenlit for 13 episodes for the producers to give closure to the fan base. I love season 5.

That’s a cool callback that i have never thought about and for a second i was thinking that it couldn’t work because i didn’t remember Olivia being dosed with Cortexiphan in S1 at all but then i remembered that Jones did give her something when he kidnapped her in ep 10 and we can assume it was cortexiphan because he wanted to activate her and the other test subjects so yeah that does work, really great catch!!

Man what a finale, just jammed packed with twists and turns from start to finish and that final scene on the boat… wow just a masterclass on all fronts. I don’t wanna gloat or anything of the sort but after seeing your reaction to this episode i’m even more sure that watching ep 19 after 22 is pretty much the only logical choice for a first time viewer but i await your thoughts after tomorrow’s episode. What i truly love about this episode is that it’s pretty much the mirror episode of the season 3 finale, in that one the two worlds do end up getting destroyed, Olivia gets shot in the had by another version of Walter and Peter and Olivia don’t have children because they didn’t want to bring one into that dying world. Instead in this episode the two worlds are both saved in the end, Walter still shoots Olivia but this time is able to save her thanks to the cortexiphan and Peter and Olivia do have a child, just a fantastic parallel, also if you remember in that episode their neighbor’s daughter gives them a drawing of the two of them with a little blonde daughter in the middle mmm…. That scene in the boat with the four of them is just absurdly good, the acting from Josh and John after Olivia is shot are just superb and that image of Peter and Walter standing over a recovering Olivia crying tears of happiness is just the perfect image to summarize the relationship between the three of them, she really is a miracle (for different reasons) to both the Bishop boys 🥰🥰. I love the twist that that the plan to create a new universe actually came from Walter and that is why in this timeline he chose to remove those parts of his brain, it makes perfect sense because it feels like something that only a grief stricken Walter could have thought of and Bell once again rides his coattails and shows his true colors. “Walter, you’ve always been playing god. I am” Peter and Olivia are too much for me in the ep, every moment every conversation every look is so charged because they can both feel that something huge is about to happen and Peter is constantly trying to reassure Olivia even though he himself is agonizing over it ❤️ and that final scene in the hospital is so good it’s almost hard to watch with Olivia that cannot stop smiling for a second and Peter that is just in awe at the news, Josh really played that scene well because you can see all of his conflicting emotions about becoming a father (for real this time) passing in his eyes once he receives the news but then pure joy wins over. When it comes to September there will be more time to talk about it later on but his scenes where also really good and we learned a lot more about the observers in general. P.S. That scene where they “reanimated” Jessica to interrogate her remain one of the absolute creepiest things i’ve ever watched, every sinful time it makes my skin crawl 😳, just fantastic stuff from Rebecca Mader.

Dak i also wanted to say in separate comment thank you once again for giving this show a chance and really immerse yourself into the world of Fringe, you reactions already have a very special place in my heart ❤️. Another person has already commented about the fact that this episode could have easily been the series finale but then thanks to the help of the fans season 5 was greenlit, personally while i think this episode would have worked fine as a conclusion to the show i am of the mind that the season 5 finale is an even better one and i can’t wait for you to experience it, to that end i’ll leave you below a link to a video that the Fringe cast showed at the San Diego Comic-con in 2012 as a thank you to fans for their support and to tease season 5 ( don’t worry it’s not spoilery), you don’t have to react to it if you don’t want to, i just wanted to share it with you to make you feel even more part of the fandom. https://youtu.be/ZKF35BYQae0?si=GKSGHN0bRuchndea Also i wanted to issue you a little bit of a warning when it comes to season 5, as i’m sure you’ve already gathered at this point after watching ep 19 the change in tone between season 4 and 5 will be substantial, this season is considerably darker and at times even depressing but i find it an incredible character study into the minds and hearts of our core three protagonist that ends in a phenomenal finale, i’m not saying this to scare you or discourage you but just to warn that this season is really unique in both tone and execution which is why it’s also not everyone’s cup of tea but i’m sure base on you reactions so far that you will end up loving it just like i do 😊, can’t wait!!

The first time I watched this episode I screamed "NO!" at Walter at the top of my lungs, and my next door neighbor in my apartment building at the time knocked on my door a few minutes later to check up with me, see if I was okay. Which was really nice, all things considered.

Katie

Season 5 is my favourite season. Can't wait for Dak to experience it

Katie

I love the reverse parallels between the seasons. I've never made that connection before and I'm on my fifth rewatch

I believe now you've also seen episode 19 and it's in editing, but it would have spoiled that Astrid and Olivia survived. That's why it was better to skip it. As for the cliffhanger, after season 3 they approved two more seasons and told them that will be all of it, so they knew. They didn't do it hoping for a maybe approved final season. Apparently the full story arc planned was for 6 seasons, but knowing in advance they're going to have to cut it short they had enough time to plan it. I guess that's why Olivia's memory replacement plotline was so quick. It just came in and asserted itself in very few episodes.

Ok Dakara now I can tell you this since you are caught up , every freaking time you say “ding ding ding” and you have several times , now you know the trauma you induce after seeing that creepy scene!!!

Elsa Millie

I will sing it's praises more in depth as you watch more episodes but all I'll say now is that I cannot wait for you to watch episode 19 and the start season 5. Season 5 may be my favorite season and I love every season for different reasons but season 5 is so incredible and I can't wait for you to experience it.

In the first episode of Fringe in referring to Peter and Olivia I remember you saying that you "ship them already". It was the scene at the end of the pilot when Olivia was trying to convince Peter to stay and she gave him this little smile. Anyway here we are all these episodes later about 85 and your dream is fully realized. I'm very glad that you were rewarded, after all the ups and downs, this love story was allowed to flourish in such a way that everyone was pretty much satisfied with the ending.

Leonardo

I came to re-watch it and it is funny to hear you say that you knew she was pregnant through your "female intuition" considering that you are reading the body language of an actress, playing a character, pretending to be pregnant. That goes to show how good Ann Torv (Olivia) acting skills are.

There is a specific term for scientists that crap on religion. They are, let me make sure I spell this correctly, 'Assholes.' There isn't a real divide of science and religion. "Lack of proof." is also not proof. There are good scientific arguments against dismissing religion - also against dismissing, 'Magical Thinking.'
