Hello All!

Loved this episode! Felt like I was high myself for most of it, thanks to Black Botter haha. The scene of Walter seeing his memories projected onto the lab is one of my favourites now though! Such a strong and powerful scene. The reveal of Sam Weis in this one was awesome too! Plus Michael is now with the team...it's all going on!

Much love

The age of the observer child could be a variety of things, all the other observers seems to mature to a much older age...maybe there is something about him that makes him different...we'll see. The whole episode is Walter's subconscious trying to work out his past conflicts, and retrieving the code he needed from the signal as interpreted by his brain under the effects of the drugs he took. Prepare the tissues for all the remaining episodes. (...and thanks for featuring my comment in the "comment of the day")

This is one of my favourite episodes in the series. Did you catch the cartoon frog hanging out by the dock at 25:28? 😂

This is the kind of episode that i absolutely love but i also get if someone tell me they didn’t care for it 😂 because it really goes full weird, even by Fringe standard ❤️. Like i said i love it because this episode really feels like being inside the insane mind of Walter Bishop and specifically a high as a kite Water Bishop and i really enjoy that all of his internal conflict are physically represented in as this moment frozen in time, Carla is almost feels like his Virgil guiding him through the hell that is his mind. I’m glad that you highlighted that final scene because it might just be my favourite Walter (solo) scene ever, him going through his most traumatic moments/choices of his life whilst they are projected on his face, god the cinematography and lighting in that scene are otherworldly. The use of Nina as sort of the angel on his shoulder opposed to Carla being the devil is very interesting because they were kinda the opposite in real life, Carla was the one that was the cautious one and Nina kind fed all of Walter and Bell’s ambitions so curious, i really like your reading that he made Carla the villain because he feels ashamed that he didn’t listened to her when he could. Michael is here! We finally got to him and he is such a cool addition to the season but there is going to be time to talk about him after tomorrow’s episode but i will say that you are definitely on the right track regarding his age being important… Sam Weiss was also brought back, i love your reaction to hearing his name because it was very similar to mine, it’s just so cool that they brought back such a pivotal character of the og timeline and made him important in this one too. Peter is also going through it in this episode, getting off that device can’t be easy but i love how focused he is on Olivia in this one almost like she is the only thing keeping alive (she kind of his to be fair) and that quick moment in the forest was so good 😊, we unfortunately don’t get too many positive Polivia moments this season but the ones we get are sooo good. When it comes to the symbolism of Walter hallucinations i think you can go pretty deep into that rabbit hole 😉, but i think you got the main ones you definitely identified. P.S. Thanks to the flashback we also had the return of the greatest line in the history of tv “there’s only room for one god in the lab and it’s not yours”, always perfectly encapsulates that version of Walter and ho he perceived the world.

The whole Monty Python cartoon sequence felt really random. I think he used Carla Warren as his devil because she's a reminder of his worst qualities. The arrogance that broke the universe and whatever he did that got her killed in the lab.

When Walter said "I don't want to lose any of you," and Peter said, "We're all right here," and Walter said "It's not enough," he was referring to last episode when he found Nina's picture in William Bell's safe. It proved that Nina was precious to him and he loved her, but he still ended up betraying them. Her love for him and his love for her was not enough to keep him on the straight and narrow and not be selfish. That's what changed his mind, that Peter would keep him from slipping away.

I thought of Walter's visions of Carla was like what we've seen in horror movies where someone may be good and sweet in life, but when they come back, they will be like vengeful spirits. When they die horribly, they come back to torment those that feel guilty about it. So, Carla wasn't Carla, the way she was, she's a representation of Walter's guilt. Both she and Nina tried to stop Walter back then, but Carla died, seemingly, because of something Walter did. Nina didn't, although she did lose her arm. (oh, just got to the point in your summation where you said something similar) The child observer, when we first met him, he was living underground for decades, so we already knew he didn't age like regular humans. So, we don't know if he just looks like a child, but actually it's just his appearance doesn't change. Like, he's reached his peak physical form? Or he just ages MUCH slower than humans. Don't know if that's with all Observers or if it's just him because even after all this time, he still doesn't speak. I feel the fairies were the part of Walter's subconscious trying to lead him in the right direction, even though his conscious mind didn't remember what he needed to do. For the most part, when they appeared, he was happy to see them and they seem to hint to him. When they get to the "black umbrella" password and he remembers it, she claps, as if to say "You will be happy if you head this way." I only remember one time they appeared here and he sort of brushed it away but it was because Carla (dark subconscious/fear) was distracting him. The fairies represented goodness and magical outcomes, so he was happy to follow them. I know a lot of the stuff seemed absurd, but it's all coming from Walter's mind and they mean something to him. I don't think there was a lot in the seemingly randomness that was ACTUALLY random. They were all part of him and related to his emotional state. Tripping, it seems (never have done it myself, although I did try LSD once and it was a dud batch) is much like a waking dream state. Connections are made by the mind that don't make sense to the conscious mind, but there is some emotional connecting thread. From what I've heard, tripping is like your conscious mind seeing a dream and understanding it or at least open to what it might mean. It's why hallucinogens are used in some therapies to unearth issues the conscious mind doesn't realize and helps you put them in place. To sort them out.

I think Astrid kept saying Walter is fine because she knows how to handle people tripping on acid, she's been a trip sitter for a while

One of my favourite episodes of the entire show!
