Tried to post this once already and it disappeared...so strange! If you get this post twice, my apologies but here goes...

Hello All!

We have a Scully-scentric episode today and we stan a queen! Does she spiral and make mistakes? Sure! But man alive does she own them! She is forever trying to learn and grow and I absolutely adore her! Did I say, 'I'll be your Daddy' to Scully in this one? I sure did, I stand by it...

Much love

Dakara x

Many of course drew parallels with Scully and Jodie Foster's character as FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling from Silence Of The Lambs, with a young female FBI Agent trying to distinguish herself in the Bureau. Jodie Foster was a well known super fan of the show, and was delighted to do the voice of Betty in this episode. What's really strange is seeing Mulder take any leave time at all, as he just isn't the kind of guy to ever switch off. Scully of course has to have a life too, and an interesting episode in that she really needs to be able to have her own private life outside the job. Edward it seems is having these voices and hallucinations in his head from his tattoo. A fairly decent episode with a little comedy thrown in of Mulder traipsing around Graceland on his Elvis Spiritual Journey.

There was nothing in this episode about Scully's apparent illness because it was originally meant to air before Leonard Betts. They switched the episodes because they wanted a more traditional X-Files episode, Leonard Betts, to air following the Super Bowl, rather than the character study that was Never Again. That said, I think this does work even in that new context. It may have been unintentional, but I think it's still pretty reasonable, as a viewer, to assume that Scully's behavior here would have been connected to what happened at the end of the previous episode.

Don't have any tatoos, I've never been that drunk. Scully is obviously reflecting on her life. Lost or adrift or whatever the case may be, she needs something to cling to. She acted completely out of character and did something stupid. Now, at least. she has something to look back on and think, "I can't believe I was that drunk and stupid,". Mulder is also being stupid. He's so wrapped up in himself and chasing elusive answers, that he can't see that something is eating at her. It's infuriating. BTW: T-Shirt looks great on you. You are now an official member of the X-Files fan club. Huzzah!!!

I loved this episode, and I thought Jodie Foster gave a great performance as Betty. I remember that in the X-Files chats at the time, there was a rumor that she might play Harley Quinn in a Batman movie that was to be made in 98 or 99 (which was never greenlit). Also, Madonna and Courtney Love were rumored for the part. It was an episode that I thought Scully felt she might be being taken for granted by her job and by Fox. Though initially telling Mulder she wasn't going to take his "orders", she dutifully did as Mulder had asked, which ironically led to her trouble with her beau for the night. I think Scully was in a rut and admitted how acting rebellious was exciting when she was young, an FBI agent coming of age, so to speak. I also feel frustrated that Mulder didn't say, " Yes, but what happens to you affects me dearly, Scully." Though I have to admit, in my life I have missed opportunities of the sort for fear of rejection. Maybe Mulder feels the same way?

It was my Dakara tattoo that told me to get you a t-shirt. :)

little fact: the man who plays Ed Jerse was actually Gillian´s boyfriend at the time.
