A brilliant time slip concept here with A mysterious old man is killing scientists working on the development of a cryobiological compound. He freezes them to death with this same compound that doesn't even exist yet. Really liked the vibe of this one. OK Time Travel has been done before, but the X-Files always seems to do it so well. This episode delves into the complexities of human relationships and the ethical implications of manipulating time. The narrative begins with a chilling scene at MIT, where a young scientist faces fatal consequences after a mysterious old man warns him about impending fate. This sets off a chain of events that leads to a tragic accident and the introduction of the time slip into the story. Synchrony has a dark and atmospheric aesthetic that enhances its themes of uncertainty and foreboding. A really good single episode that had scope to have possibly been linked into the mythology, but it seems no Alien involvement here.

Interesting concept. I like it

It's interesting that you should mention David Duchovny's hands near the beginning of your reaction, he had a brief scene in the movie "Zoolander" as a hand model. The whole premise of time travel is a hotly debated topic. According to quantum mechanics, yes it can be done, but the circumstances would be insanely specific. Plus there's the certainty that an organism would be destroyed in the process. Besides, if your intent is to send something into the past, how would you know if the trip was a success? I'm sure that they will get back to the main story line, and Scully's dilemma soon.

The next episode is so good that your head might explode watching it.

TV shows back then needed a lot of filler episodes because the season length and the time limits between episodes were insane compared to, say, an 8- or 10-episode show today, where writers plan every episode before it's shot. Some of these episodes on The X-Files were created on the fly, so the main story-arc episodes sometimes ended up in weird spots, which made it feel a bit untethered. Think of today's shows like a well-curated album, and shows like The X-Files like live jam sessions. Anyway, great reaction; this reminded me of that movie 17 Again with Zac Efron, though with a lot deadlier and less quirky results.

“He no longer needs glasses apparently either. In his older age his eyes got better.” Kinda reminds you of a certain reactor, right Dak? 👀
