We've pressed the go button, we're about five minutes in, some of the adoptees have already perished gloriously absorbing enemy machinegun fire and I'm sweating about how many Dragon missiles I have. Excellent!

So here's the setup video: this has details on the scenario, the (IIRC) 181 named pixeltruppen and my planning and deployment. On Friday you guys will get the first week's worth of turns in a big single video, while the public gets the setup video and individual turns one a day starting Monday. So you'll all be a few steps ahead!

Switching over to daily uploads means the Shorts are crowded out, so we'll get this week's sorted- it's a WW2 Armour Penetration one- and then resume in about a month once the Persian Predicament is out of the way.

In other news, the Micro Unit Guide looks like it's gone down pretty well. A little more emphasis on the history and development is probably in order, but otherwise a successful little test and a good addition to the lineup. Depending on how much free space I have when we get our little Iranian excursion wrapped up, I might see about getting one or two sorted out as reserve emergency videos, or finding a way to incorporate them into the scehdule once or twice a month.

Anyway, that's about it from me for this Monday morning- I'm still full of cold, but getting better and we actually had snow over here in the UK so I can get to watch society grind to a halt.

"Listen up boys, we are up against Russians. Things can get REAL nasty REAL quick! Spread out and keep your head on a swivel! Stick to the plan and maybe we can make it home in one piece! " - Sergeant Ben Kerry

Ben Kerry

The men of TF ridgeway rushed onto the lines. Each man leaped out of the door into the frigid air 400 metres above the airfield, a column of white parachutes dragged on from the soft white underbellies of the transport C-130s. Large large parachutes with jeeps hanging down were the first to drop, followed by the rest of the company headquarters and the mortarman of 4th platoon with their large packs strapped in front of their chests. Then come the grunts packing all the bags and loads a man need to live and kill in the world underneath. Staff Sergeant Ben Kerry was the last to make the jump, carrying the oversized foam case where his M-16 is stored, he walked to the hatch and made the step forward. The jump was textbook, he thought, nobody strayed too fair, each of the chute worked, not even a sprained ankle or a broken knee, probably one or two scratches here and there but for all the seven years he spent in the Army this is the best jump he ever witnessed. The men of second platoon, A company "Team DC" quickly scrambled to the rally point made, a bit of confusion here and there, as the men struggles to get their bags open and weapons ready. Remember the drill, Kerry repeated the drill in his head once again. Stick to the plan and be always ready. "Be all you can be", the recruitment song oddly flashed back again in his mind. The tanned North Carolinian sergeant let his mind drift back to his home and family down in Fort Bragg for three seconds more before focusing on the task at hand.

If I have time outside my chemistry degree I'm gonna write detailed backstory for pixeltruppens and cinematic versions of "what happened". (it's kinda inspired by John F Antal's books "Infantry Combat: The Rifle Platoon" and "Proud Legion, a novel of America's next war") If you want a backstory for your pixeltruppen let me know

Ben Kerry

If you want a backstory for your pixeltruppen so you can feel bad when he suffers a cruel and unusual death please let me know.

Of the 2nd platoon: The platoon is nicknamed "Commie platoon" due to the platoon leader, Lieutenant Nick Timofeiovich being a 3rd generation Russian immigrant (the first Timofeiovich escaped to America during the Russian civil war) and the platoon's history playing OPFOR during several exercises in Fort Bragg. "Maybe this is the price for playing communists", thought Staff Sergeant Kerry as the whole platoon started their mad dash to the air base south, the critical roadbump in front of the Red Army's mechanized spearhead The enemy reconnaissance element could be here for all they know. The platoon has to run faster than the wheels of Soviet BRDMs, or face annihilation. All the ruck marches during peacetime has shown their usefulness, the muscles are burning and the bones are crying in agony, but the men are surging towards the south hangar, hopefully at a faster rate than the Soviet BRDMs and scouts. Hundreds of meters in the rear 81mm mortars are loaded with smoke shells, laying down a smokescreen to cover the 2nd platoon's advance

Ben Kerry

Headcanon: before the paradrop the 82nd did a rehearsal complete with OPFOR, 2nd platoon played the Soviet recon in the rehearsal (the in-universe playtest)

Perhaps in the next decade Hapless will learn what a Staff Sergeant is.

While I appreciate the in game lore, Tim is just my dad's name, but he has been calling me that since I was a baby, courtesy of being born while he was getting a master's degree in post-Soviet Russian economic history.

Ben Kerry

OK, it's right on 1979, so the NTC and much of the OPFOR techniques haven't been set in stone yet (Ft Irwin wasn't used until 1980 according to Wikipedia, and according to Harold Coyle back in the days it was a mechanized/armored only place, light infantry don't go to Ft Irwin) But mock up compounds for training is already somewhat common, during Vietnam war the raid on Sơn Tây raid was planned and rehearsed with mock up compounds. So if the 82nd is kept on high readiness a drill with OPFOR would probably be there (or an overly innovative staff officer planned this out)

Lore for Staff Sergeant Ben Kerry: born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He enrolled per family tradition. His father served in Korea as a paratrooper of the same division he ended up in. Two of his uncles joined special forces and went home in body bag. A nephew of his is also in the SF, allegedly he was in the team with the backpack nukes. Kerry want to do his father and grandfather proud, and hopefully ask out that girl he met back at home, if he survive this lot.

Lemme think of the lore for First Lt Nick "Ruskie" Born in a Russian immigrant family with his father being a math professor at university of Florida, Nicholas "Ruskie" Timofeiovich graduated West Point with flying colors. Unfortunately he is not proficient in Russian, partially due to his parents' obsession to "assimilate" to American society, so the military intelligence and related jobs are closed to him. But he don't care anyways, as he found his calling to be leading platoons and learning battle drills as opposed to desk works and scratching heads. Under Nick the 2nd platoon is jokingly referred as the "commie platoon" largely due to Nick's proficiency when playing as opposition force during exercises. The reputation may also have to do with Nick's "political views" which are said to be "liberal" by Army standards.

Ben Kerry

It's your real name? Wow! Ben Kerry is not my real name actually, I'm actually a Chinese trying to immigrate to the west (username is a Arma reference)

Mordschlag

Well, I hope the rest of 2-3 brought their good boots and a second pair of socks, because we're apparently going to need them.

Chodester

Finally made it after 3 years of watching, I’m bout to pull off a sick trick shot on the 81

Chodester

Tbf he’s about to make the 81s sprint with a combat load of ammo and the tubes, everyone is about to suffer the green weenie

Ben Kerry

It's 82nd, not 81s

Ben Kerry

Sorry, though he meant us in the 2nd platoon

Poxyquotl

Awesome that I made the cut, and as a TACP no less! Not exactly my real job (Fire Support Team Chief), but very very close. I suppose I'll get a chance to use my JFO skills to put virtual warheads on foreheads.

Want a backstory for your character?

Ben Kerry

Nick. You have fallen in battle. Ready for Airborne heaven?
