In New York its been pretty much the same. Hopefully it dies down soon and I never have to take an online class at University ever again haha.

Corona virus has not been too bad for me personally so far in Florida. I agree it's mostly the panic buying that worries me. We get that regularly because of hurricanes here but usually it is just a few states, not the whole nation doing it. Granted I don't want to get a worse version of the flu. Even if I can probably live through it that still sounds pretty awful. I really hope this might help us as a human race to learn how to (better) handle if something much more deadly where to come along. Panic buying on this level is kind of like the prisoners dilemma though right? The more you expect people to do it the more your going to feel the need to do it yourself. Also all the horror stories and videos form China probably don't inspire calm rational response. If you think someone might come by and board up you house so you can't leave, or that not having a mask will get you held down and pressure washed with bleach in the street, it's not too hard to think like hey "I better make darn sure I don't run out...". Anyway, take care and thanks for not hording resources!

Unfortunately, the same situation is developing in Russia. Universities and schools have switched to distance learning, part of it companies have transferred to remote work. There was no war over toilet paper yet)), but people are trying to stock up on cereals. I also don’t understand the decision why quarantine there where there is no virus? the same panic can be raised every year due to flu

Worst part is that it tends to be a reletive 'knock on' effect. Sensible people needing some of this stuff might be compelled to start stockpiling entirely because 'I probably won't have the opportunity any time soon because of horders', if it gets worse over the next few months, it may get very hard for sensible people to resist. Also, I spend all day at my desk... regardless of the WFH sentiment ... I enjoy these, I gain a bit of my sanity back watching these.

err, I live in Europe, and dude, this is not just a bad flue. we haven't seen something this bad since ww2. we are terrified because of what is happening right now in our hospitals, people are hospitalized by the HUNDREDS every day and our ICU are choking fast. The flue, even a bad one, doesn't do this. Mind you, less than a week ago nobody here cared, neither did I, but oh boy, we were badly mistaken. take care.

I live in Barcelona(Spain) and so far we got 1000 dead peolple for the corona virus and we didn't reach the peak of the flue. Here we also have a completly lockdown. I suppose we will be the country with more dead people because of the decisions of the central goverment. For example you can go out for a walk the dog, so now we are turning all the fat dogs to athletic dog... or the old people everyday goes out to buy the bread, then to take out the rubbish, etc... At least, they withdraw the option to go to the hair salon. Well, take care and do what you love to do. PD: happy to see instagram stories :D

The corona virus pushed my team to go from CVS to gitlab, so that's an upside. But this is 5x-10x more deadly than the flu, and no one has immunity. It ain't good. It's gonna get a lot worse in the US I think cause of lack of social benefits compared to Europe. Bill Gates has a great TED talk from 2015 that almost seem prophetic today. He says it'll be 6-10 weeks of this lock down thing. Also super happy to hear you're going to start talking about CI stuff!

You should really check the stats before making laconic claims. Check the transmission rate of COVID compared to flu, SARS and MERS, look at graphs from european countries, because the rest of the countries will be following the pattern. Check the incubation period compared to flu, which determines how hard it is to contain it. Check when a COVID infected patient is the most contagious. And lastly, check the death rate of COVID compared to flu in the normal circumstances, and in the circumstances when the health system is overloaded, which will be a problem in a lot of the countries in which a lot people have 'it's just a flu' mindset. 'It just affects older people and sick people', practically means that at least 15% percent of world population, more than 1 billion people might be substantially affected. None of this takes into account the effects on economy that this would cause.

I live in Western New York. I am physically disabled/Crohn's disease, so I live alone. I keep a stock of canned vegetables and a few other foods. With my disability, I don't get out much, so vlogs like these are a form of socialization for me. There are fewer than 500 cases of COVID in my state, and we're trying to keep the numbers down. I'm not changing my routine much, but I'm forced to certain extra-residential activities (ERA's). My disability income is delivered monthly, so I can't really avoid food shopping twice a month. I also need to go to a medical facility once a month to get the drugs that keep the Crohn's from killing me (a slow, wasting and disgusting way to die, so I keep those appointments). You are lucky. Cherno has a decent living and a wife of whom he by all accounts seems to enjoy the company and the ability to choose what he does in his leisure time. I don't. I'm not jealous, but I would like to remind people not to get too complacent. I noticed that Cherno is filling out a little as he gets older. Good. He's healthy. I'm glad.

I'm from Germany and my wife got our baby yesterday without me being present because some idiots robbed Sterillium and operation masks to sell this stuff on eBay or so.

TheCherno presented a nice balanced view of the situation, in my opinion. The data on COVID-19 is not good yet, but, so far, the seasonal flu does appear to do a lot more damage. I am especially heartened that such a young man as TheCherno is so perceptive. Here in the US many young people know little history and have been pampered and hence will have tantrums when the stuff hits the rotating blades. Even though I am an older, retired engineer, I have not lived through truly trying times like the Spanish flu pandemic of 100 years ago or WW-II. Today it is politicians and the media, across the spectrum, which is making this situation so much worse, which is either new, or much amplified by our political class. In the US, during the Vietnam War, a phrase entered the culture, viz., "We had to burn the village to save it." I truly believe that that is what politicians are doing here now, specifically by doing such economic damage to so many people, many of whom will be put at a permanent disadvantage as a result. Politicians, especially in our current, contentious era, simply don't care about more than winning. It is sad that is has come to that.
