Broccoli Ben

When I watched this, I was only interested in the spider parts of the story. When it went to the humans I groaned lol

Switchchris27

What I don't understand is why she would bring them all to the elf forest, when a lot of their deaths were shown to be IN THE ELF FOREST! Im pretty sure all her actions did nothing to stop their fates, she was just part of it assuring their fates. It also could just be that the Fate of the world would have been decided and ended by the time they all turn 20, and its not gonna change until the Fate of the world was changed.

Re: Kanata/Katia. Based on info from the WN (not really spoilers, just a bit of context that was left out of a prior scene, and can be sorta observed by reviewing their scenes), it's best described as a change in both sex and gender, with them thus remaining cis (which makes sense if gender is stored in the brain rather than the soul). However, they understandably have had a male self-image for a long time, and only *really* abandoned that fairly recently in the process of breaking free from Hugo's mind control. It's honestly a fairly interesting situation to think about, because of the obvious weirdness that would come from going from a cis guy to a cis girl; however, the story unfortunately doesn't really explore it that much.

The light novel series is awesome and fun. I suggest it if you have time to read it in the future. A LOT of detail is left out of the anime compared to the actual story.

Kevin

because most of the would have been dead, BEFORE they fight in the elf forest. And once there...the elfs and most certainly Patimos would not let them leave again. In her desperation, she asked probably the worst person for help

Aliulo

I liked this show so much, but DAMN does it fall off in quality by the end.

IvI

The human parts, at least for me, are way more enjoyable in the light novels, not as fun as spider, but not miserable. They skipped the whole first book worth of human story in the anime, the first scene the humans are shown in the anime is from book 2 of the series, so the anime kinda just said screw getting to know the humans lol.

Vectoris

Class rep was close with the teacher, Oka, not red hair.

Vectoris

There is a very specific reason why everyone is the way they are. If more of the show ever gets animated, you will learn, but until then I would say read the light novels cuz they're so much better and more in depth than the anime is. LN makes way more sense too.

Vectoris

Okay, so in the Light Novel, the meeting between Kumoko (that's just what people call her, not a spoiler) and gilly gilly actually happens after an event that takes place in a future episode, and is a direct result of that event. I don't know why they decided to do all this BS of changing around the order of events of some things, especially considering that the meeting happening after makes sooo much more sense in the light novel than it does in the anime. In the anime, Gilly Gilly just appears out of nowhere for like no reason. In the Light Novel, it is very clear why he shows up right then and there and why he wants her to stop the "attack". In the anime it's like "Why does he care so much?"

Kiana Vayne

It does explain that she can alter the time and cause of death on the Student Roster, only Hugo was listed as "dies in battle in the Elf Forest" and she didn't bring him there, and the ones she did bring there had their deaths delayed. I know this anime isn't super clear with a lot of details, but that part wasn't among the unclear details.

KatoBen

The human side of the story is essential to the story. The manga is focusing solely on Spider's perspective, which sometimes makes things confusing when it lacks the other perspective of the story. I really want a second season, as some of my favorite parts of the story don't happen until the next phase of the story, but I fear that all of the complaints about the degrading animation and gripes about the human side of the story is what's preventing a second season from ever materializing. The twists are some of the best parts of this story, and I would absolutely love for the 2nd phase to get animated as I really want to see everyone's reaction when they learn who Admin D was in Japan.

F. Carasind

I like the humans way more in the light novels–the anime isn't simply as interested in exploring them.

Broccoli Ben

I can understand why the human side is interesting, but it didn’t captivate me as much as the spider lol

aliciaxlife

yeah that's my issue. Its like they didnt really develope them well enough for me to care about them unlike what they did for best girl spider..

Bruh_ve

What first got me into this series was the Webnovel, that focused on Kumoko's Perspective except for a handful of chapters. The Manga follows this aproach, but adapts the Light Novels story which has a lot of differences to the Webnovel with the main storyline staying roughly the same. And the anime fully adapts the Light novels story, with some stuff being left out. Personaly, I find the Web Novel and Mange the most enjoyable versions of this story, but thats just bc of my preference

jdoggivjc

The biggest lesson that can and should be learned from the sensei and what role she actually plays (because it’s true - she’s been sus the entire series up to this point)… is NOTHING in this series is as what it seems.

Kampela

More Spider came! One more binge and they also have to suffer with eternal wait for next season. At least that waiting is better than with D. Gray-Man, its likely not going to get more manga or anime since writer has been sick :( (At least this is latest i know how her situation and this info is already years old)

leviathan_13

I think they got that since IIRC they commented about that.

Some guy

Agreed 100%. And it really pisses me off too, especially the anime's handling of Ooshima/Katia, who single-handedly carried the human part for me in the novels. Their gender dysphoria as a former guy really made the character stand out, and it made the brainwashing incident really interesting with Katia symbolically sacrificing her past self to break free of it. After that, she goes all in on her femininity and realizes that she is romantically interested in hero boy. You can see signs of this in the anime (getting pissy when Shun has to help another girl swim, covering his ears when dragon girl is changing, etc.). It's also nice that the female characters notice and acknowledge Katia as a woman (taking her along on the shopping trip for Fei's clothing and the like). Still, it could have been so much better. *sigh*

Some guy

Whoops. Missed this comment before posting a rant further up the chain. That's what I get for not clicking "Load More Comments." LN reader here, but I agree 100% that it could have done with more fleshing out here (not that it was explored that deeply in the books either, but more than in the anime at least).

Rainet

The human parts of this show are so much worse xD They're kinda important to the overall story I GUESS but they arae just so forgettable next to the MC spider, she's just so much fun. That said, the last few episodes are all pretty fun and I wish there was a second season to continue what they've got going on, in both storylines. Finally get my interest up in plot B just to... stop xD

MyOnisan

ye, the best scenes are spider scenes <3

Spacefrog

I love the idea of our spider unwittingly messes up the political situation of the whole continent just by existing. She did a good deed by protecting a random baby from assassins/kidnappers. The dead bodies proved that the elves where working behind the scenes and she also manages to take out spies from one or both major churches. Anyone who had agetnts killed by the spider immediately thinks she was sent by the demon lord to foil exactly their plan and start planning to retaliate. Except the demon lord doesn't actually seem to know any of the ongoing schemes but is still getting credit

Jyxxe

I'm genuinely so sad this show ran into such bad production issues and just fell apart. The premise is SO good, and the originally story kicks ass, but the second half of the anime just doesn't hold up, sadly.

Artemis

Its not just production issues sadly. The studio in general isn't great cause they are the ones that made berserk 2016

IvI

Two of my favorite scenes I remember even over spider parts in the book is when Shun is first reborn, and when he is reunited with Ooshima, now Katia, he was humanized, which of course the anime skipped. Also yeah, Katia is super fun. One of my favorite human characters.

WillGlacier

Yeah fuck this studio SPECIFICALLY for creating the worst taboo known to mankind. . . The Berserk 2016 adaptation

WillGlacier

Tbh I completely ignored this show when it came out because it's made by the dreaded studio that created the worst thing known to mankind. . . The Berserk 2016 adaptation But at least watching you guys react to it is kinda fun. Still hate this studio with a passion though (never forget how they treated the goat) (also fyi, no offense to anyone who likes this show I just can't believe it SOMEHOW got more budget than BERSERK of all things)

atakerin

just realized that potimas VA is the same as Kira yoshikage

Michael Hamilton

She should really see Reincarnated as a slime. Rimaru is so relatable. That along with Saga of Tanya the Evil

WillGlacier

ngl, I would recommend slime if it didn't fall off HEAVY. Literally 4 or more episodes in a row, 20+ min, all talking around a table like a fucking podcast. I am not here for that shit Tanya would be cool tho ngl. She IS already planning to do overlord and I'd 100% rather see that

Okarun

React to Uzaki Wants to hangout english dub just like you did for horimiya!

Ali

Someone hasn't read the light novel it seems. The whole Underground Labyrinth arc is super slow in S3, but the arcs that follow go crazy. Also, just because there's a part you don't like doesn't mean the whole thing 'fell off' — you just didn't have the attention span, not the storys fault

Andrew

Not to get too into the writing process and everything, but unfortunately, when you’re creating something for an audience—especially a large audience—clarity is far more important than cleverness. Yes, straight and repetitive exposition sucks, but you need to do it to ensure that you get the point across, because there are a lot of people that may not catch the important things that make everything make sense. Clarity is especially important when presenting a story like this. Fragmented narratives are going to confuse people—a lot more than you’d think—because there are plenty that won’t understand or just won’t be fully paying attention. So, you end up having to be much more explicit than you’d think in order to get the point across. This isn’t to say that the human bits are good by any means, but they are necessary for the way that they decided to tell the narrative.

Elaharra

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime would be a good follow up anime, it has some interesting characters and also has some good opening and ending songs. neat fact about the closing songs for the spider anime, i know for sure the first one, but i am pretty sure the second ending song for the Spider anime were both sung by the Japanese voice actress for our spider girl. So that actually is the main character singing the ending song as portrayed, which makes it even more impressive.

DrCatspaw

I'm reading through the light novel and am well past the events in the anime. And the light novel also tells it all out of order. Now there are things told differently because of the things they cut. But the weird time skipping is loyal to the source.

Aerowind

That's only if you're going for mass appeal. Reminder that this was originally a web novel. Web novels can be a lot more experimental by their very nature, and it's part of the reason people love them so much. I'd much rather have a clever plot than the same boring storytelling that a thousand other isekai LNs have had.

Aerowind

I'm really sad that this is where the anime died, but that's crunchyroll animes for ya. I've read the novels and there are legit like at least 3 massive plot twists that legitimately had me going "oh shit no way!"

Travis

it probably wont tbh, it was not as popular as they hoped. i do want to be proven wrong tho, so hopefully..

Ali

I hope she does. I own all the LN copies of Slime it's one of my all time favourites. Considering the anime is in full swing, with both a new movie and Season 4 already greenlit, it would be a nice series for her to start

Princess Paladin

You should seriously just go sleep and save something like this for when you're awake and rested! It's not good for you to push yourself like this, and you aren't even really enjoying it because you're just trying to stay awake! :( :( :( I worry about you

Nawaf

Please finish the spider and start slime, also black clover will come soon so it will be great to start it

Jerry

another great reaction video :) can't wait for the last 4 eps

Shroomy

As someone who has read the whole light novel the human side is almost always boring, you just kind of wait for more spider story, even towards the end when the timelines catch up to one another. it's the problem with having one interesting story about monster leveling and the other about human side intrigue and other shit.

Cvillain626

Vestiges scene legit the only reason to watch the human side xD they did a great job making it feel really creepy with the voice changes

Adam & Miranda

I am consistently baffled at how both good and bad this show is.

Sanssy

Wait a minute...did I heard Aizen in Pøtimas!?
