Ranginald Vagel

Crazy pull, alright I’ll take an excuse to revisit this

Nym

EVERYTHING I WAS DOING BEFORE THIS CAN WAIT OH MY FUCKING GODS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WELCOME PARTY WOLF WOOOOOOOOO Honestly I kinda love party wolf already just from this intro he's sweet!!!!!!!

Salmonero

First one is good and builds up the world.. 2nd is absolutely fantastic!

Matty C

This is dope but like ...... The Hobbit? Lol. We uh .... we still doing that? 😅

Jobbe Smit

Do we have to? It's The Hobbit... Great book, less than stellar movie adaptations.

Mojo

I got good memories attached to this movie - being the last one(?) i saw with dad before his passing & long fights & discussions about the sci-fi elements. It'll be enjoyable to re-watch

Rej

Yessss!!! Waited over a year for this one :D

Nicholas Johnson

I kept falling asleep watching this. This is a great time to give it another try.

Matty C

Well she started it. Clearly loved the first movie. Said she was gonna continue the trilogy. Other people are also asking her to continue the Hobbit. Other people don't have to settle just because you personally dont like something. Also using "less than stellar adaptation" as a reason is kind of pointless considering she hasn't read the book and therefore has nothing to compare it to.

Mr. Ewok

Holy shit! Lets goooooo!

PurportedGrey

These 2 movies cemented Denise Villeneuve as one of the best directors imo! Most of his movies are in my top 10/25 favorite movies.

PandaBH

Same I hope with Alicia’s help I won’t fall asleep while watching this

Jobbe Smit

Star Wars is heavily based on Dune. Also the novel is fucking amazing if a smidgen dated. The sequels kinda consistently lose quality but the starting point is high enough.

Mojo

In the cinema - the bass was definetly there & for everything. Maybe it was the place i was at or maybe the toned it down for the digital release.

Depresso

I've been waiting on this I'm so excited

King'sBard

Apparently in IMAX The Voice sounded amazingly haunting

Lance Ivy

Nooooo not 2021 1989 😂

BartonBelladonna

this movie is really a major showing of just how great Timothy Chalamat really is. he's an amazing actor. besides the second movie, JUST as good, you should also react to Wonka if you have also seen Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. he's an incredible singer and an amazing Wonka. Gene Wilder would be proud

#Shuttershadesupreme

*channels inner Dracula Flows* Call me the Lisan al Gaib the way I guide the opps to paradise! The rebellious murder AI lost their memory banks cause they forgot that I AM HIM!

Brock Samson

I will warn you now Alicia…the novel is a *thicc* tome.

Phantom Penance

My mom convinced my family to watch this movie at home when it released. Our TV was too crappy to handle the bass or the visuals, and I have never forgiven her for that. Thankfully I watched the sequel in the theatres in IMAX

T

will you be finishing the hobbit anytime soon?

Chaxinitus

"Is he one of those worm people?" Nah, he uses gravity pod things for mobility because chonky Those don't show up until toward the end of Book 3 😁 Edit: Since you ask about the novel, the book is fantastic, I enjoyed books 2 and 3 as well, haven't finished the 4th yet. But if I had to pick one overarching word to describe them it would be "Batshit" Also there's a TON of worldbuilding that there's just no natural way to pack into the movie. Such as Mentats (the guy who's eyes roll back) basically being a computer by training because there was a massive revolt against AI and "thinking machines" and it has since been ingrained in the religion of the time with the "Orange Catholic Bible" stating "Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind". It's absolutely wild how much shit was packed into a goddamn 1965 novel and how disgustingly relevant parts of it have stayed.

Salmonero

Prisoners, Arrival, Sicario, Blade Runner, Enemy… dude just doesn’t miss!

Dhaval Kale

I feel like both Lelouch and Eren Yeager were inspired by Paul Atreides

Adam

For the Duke!

BunnyRabbit

Any idea of when the next part is coming?

Photon

first the Batman and now this? (Same DP btw) PEAKKKKK

Void-Father Tiberius

The visions are not linear. Some foretell what WILL happen. Some what CAN happen. The bit with the friend Paul killed was necessary, in that Paul’s innocence was killed. “The boy must die, for the Man to rise.” The visions of the friend(Jamis) was Paul connecting to space and time, past and future, what will happen and what could’ve happened. TLDR; Paul being stabbed and dying was not literal, but merely a metaphor for his innocence dying. As well as the first step in Paul’s ascent.

IvI

Anakin would hate this movie.

Shadowsofpain

Yup watched both in Imax and damn of they didn't tune those speakers to reverberate in your core.

Kyutoko

There's three versions. But Part Two is already out and Part Three is supposed to release in 2026 to this version. I recommend the 1984 version, I've seen it dozens of times. The 2000 version... eh... ... ... not so much. Less the sci-fi channel original series based off it. Also. BIG WORM! BIG WORM! BIG WORM! ME LIKEY BIG WORM!

Sunforoni

Party wolf has a very pretty voice OMG

Timothy Dowell

"Sick, I'm gona cry." Got an audible laugh from me.

Joxx Boii

Cant wait for part two

Jared Allen

Because there is a teeny bit of confusion at the end regarding Jamis (the "Best Friend"). Its not that the vision was changed, its more like the interpretation of it was not clear. Paul says at the beginning that his visions aren't really telling the future so much as just telling him whats coming. He has a vision of Jamis telling him he will teach Paul the ways the Fremen, and through his fight to the death he learns their ways. It was unconventional but it goes to show that how Paul see's the future is a bit murky.

SquaredSpekz

He was high off Spice, he wasn't hearing the worm.

Aphelion Audio

things the book mentions that the movie only implies, these arent spoilers at all just things you wouldnt notice likely notice if you hadnt read the book: The bull head is the head of the bull that killed Pauls grandfather and his blood is still on the horns. Dr. Yueh knew he was going to be killed, he just did what he did to MAKE SURE his wife was dead, because being alive in the hands of the harkonnen would be far worse. Pauls mom and dad loved each other very much, the houses of Dune work like medieval houses so Pauls dad remaining unmarried is useful politically which is why he never married her. When Jessica, Pauls mom meets Shadout Mapes, the woman who gives her the crys knife, she asks jessica what it is, she answers a crys knife, she then asks its meaning, to which jessica hesitates, in the book its because she knows she will attack if she answers wrong and jessica doesnt know the answer, so she goes with "A Maker of Death" but once Shadout hears "A Maker" she has that reaction, because "The Maker" is what they call the worms. Jessica was just trying to use the religion planted by the bene gesserit to manipulate shadout, and inadvertently succeeded. Also her strange reaction was because, to shadout, jessica answering correctly was basically like if you were a die hard christian and you just got proof that you were speaking to the mother of jesus christ

Timothy Dowell

What's a crazy detail is that in Paul's vision of the duel, Jamis kills him the same way Paul kills Jamis in the book. I think it was intentional and represents the uncertainty of Paul's visions.

SquaredSpekz

You don't have to Sandwalk the moment you step on sand, only when the sand is deep enough for worms to travel in, which is nowhere near any rocks.

Adam

BY SHAI-HULUD! MUA'DIB! MUA'DIB! MUA'DIB!

Matt O'Doherty

Lehto was married and had a son before Jessica and Paul. his wife and son died in an assassination attempt on him. Jessica was sent in to provide a female heir, but she fell in love with Lehto and gave him a son to ease his grief. They never married as she is not recognized as noble born.

SquaredSpekz

Star Wars was heavily based on Dune, hence desert planet, spice, the chosen one.

PandaBH

Yeah I definitely see the resemblance but I like Star Wars more or is that just me.

PurportedGrey

Those assassination wars they talk about in the books would be wild to see in this version of the universe.

Ideal_Optimist

Woo! This was so much fun! Loved your reactions. Dune Part 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time. Super looking forward to it!

Crescent Method

At the end, the Fremen cut themselves because their culture tells them to never draw their knives without drawing blood. You see all of those with drawn knives cut themselves after Stilgar cuts himself. I really hope Alicia watches Villenueve's other films, they're all top tier films and she would eat

Darko dargon

I know warhammer 40000 is inspired by dune but holy cow i couldnt stop getting the same vibe

ShreddedNinja

Zendaya got paid 48k a minute for this movie

Richard

So, allow me to explain the duel between Jamis and Paul and the visions surrounding it. So to start with, Paul has a vision of Chani stabbing him, but Paul knows it’s not his death and he says that he will be given a knife. Chani is the one who gives him the Knife for the duel. The Vision of Jamis states that he is a friend who will ‘Show him the ways of the Desert’. The Desert is cruel and takes the weak, only those willing to kill can survive. By fighting Paul in Amtal, Jamis shows Paul the ways of the Desert. Finally, the vision of Paul’s death, is purely metophorical, it is the death of Paul the boy, the of his innocence. As his mother states during the fight, Paul has never killed a man, Jamis is the first man Paul has ever killed. if you look closely you can see Stilgar’s expression change when she says that, Stilgar now knows Jamis is as good as dead, and the reason Jamis is screaming at Paul is because he thinks Paul is insulting him by not taking the killing blow, any other Fremen would have done so, but Paul, INNOCENT Paul, can’t do it. For Paul Atriedies to survive, the innocent boy must die, and as the vision states, when you take a life, you also take your own.

Cashryn Sins

Rewatch one piece with them if they haven't seen it! :D

ComradeRaccVT

Was hoping for superman but im hype asf for this too

Adam

it's a nod to the myth Gurkhas perpetuated about their Kukris needing to draw blood if drawn. And the Gurkhas are some of the most vicious knife fighters known to man. They just let the myths exist because it makes people even more likely to surrender peacefully if they show up so they don't have to fight. Good example of this was during the Falklands War, when enemy troops looked for anyone APART from the Gurkha units to surrender to because they were that intimidated, including, amusingly, to a random fishing boat that happened to be in the area.

fizzlefist

Dennis Villanueva is my favorite director of this century for a reason. Sicario, Arrival, and Blade Runner 2049 are all *fantastic* films.

Adam

Fun lore fact, during that opening shot of Caladan, that lightning seen through the ocean mist is very likely a nod to, if not actually a depiction of a local life form to the planet called an Elecran, which is basically a living electrical storm.

Memento Forever

Last year when Dune 2 was in theatres I tried to watch this but I kept falling asleep because I watched it late after work and was laying down and I eventually gave up I liked 1/3 of it though, But at least I can watch it now as a reaction which I find more enjoyable than by mysself, so in hindsight Im glad I didn't finish

Agent J

So a funfact: The reason why the Fremen cut themselfes after the situation calmed down during Pauls and his mothers first encounter with them is because in Fremen culture once they unsheath the knive it MUST draw blood. Also the reason Paul and anyone didn't do the walk thing during the spice station scene was because the worm was already approaching to attack where they were. The walk wouldn't change anything at that point. But you'll learn more about the ways of the desert together with Paul in the next movie!

re: Human vs. Animal. It's not that the Reverend Mother doesn't see herself as human. It's that she doesn't see the vast majority of people as human. To quote her in the book: "A Human can override any nerve in his body". Humans are not influenced by hormones or emotions or external sensory/nervous input like heat/cold/pain/fatigue/lust/etc. They exert total conscious and voluntary control over ALL facets of their nervous system and biochemistry, including the ones that in the 20th century we think of as automatic. This is also how the Bene Gesseritt wives and concubines of the aristocracy use the elite of the empire as the breeding population for their long-term human eugenics program. This is why the Rev. Mother is cranky about Rebecca having given the Duke a son. Because as a BG trained woman she not only doesn't get pregnant unless she chooses to (no BC required, she simply controls the processes of her body), she chooses the sex and many of the genetic traits of her offspring by conscious control of the process of gestation and pregnancy. It's tens of thousands of years in the future, and humans have directed their own evolution in some weird ways.

QuibblesAndGitz

Star Wars is more of a high fantasy set in space, as well as being a fun family friendly adventure story. So although a lot of Star Wars was inspired by Dune, it is a completely different style of story, and completely up to the individual which you prefer :) Its like comparing the Hobbit against Game of Thrones. Both are great books, but Very different themes and target audiences

QuibblesAndGitz

I prefer the 2000 to the 84 personally. The 84 was just too abbreviated for me, although the soundtrack and some of the shots were more epic

FellwindXCII

Its amazing how everyone is so hung up on the best friend Jamis thing. It says he will be a friend that teaches him a lesson. Well Paul learnt a pretty important lesson during that fight. I don't think I've seen a single streamer latch onto the metaphor yet. Edit: I see this has already been explained earlier.

SquaredSpekz

I never said they were similar styles. I just said one was clearly inspired by the other.

Purist

Since no one has mentioned it: Your companion (Sorry, I'm bad with names, lol) mentioned that Dune is set 8,000 years in the future? Sike, it's more like 20,000 years, the date displayed was 10,500ish years A.G. (After the Guild), meaning the Spacing Guild when they discovered how to use melange (the spice) to travel through interstellar space, being around 13,300ish A.D.

Kyutoko

I don't hate 2000, but I also haven't seen it since 2000, I just remember not liking it as much. The casting was good, however. Duke Leto Atreides by William Hurt? Chef kiss. But Patrick Stewart was in the 1984 and I saw it as a kid and was a HUGE fan of TNG, so I lost my tiny little mind at Captain Picard being in the sand movie. LOL. I do recommend seeing the extended edition of the 1984 release, I don't know why, but in my teens I was up at like 2am, unable to sleep and surfing channels. And came upon the extended edition. The first half hour or so of the movie, is just animated backgrounds and matte paintings and they explain the lore of the books. Fair warning, the movie is like four plus hours long with all the added lore and scenes.

Noel

Well said, nothing omitted

Nathan

Omg I’m so happy your reacting to these films

Linnaeus

The sandworms aren't an issue during the battle at Arrakeen because of the geology: the palace, the spaceport, and most of the city is built on bedrock, not sand. There's also the shield wall which is partly manmade and partly more rock formations which creates a barrier the worms can't cross. Otherwise, yeah, the city couldn't exist like it does without sandworm attacks. That's the contrast between the city dwelling natives of Arrakis and the desert-dwelling Fremen.

Ozone279

the spice MUST flow!

Nathan

Need that part 2 reaction asap

Kawaii Edgelord

Can't believe Alicia isn't a David Lynch fan smh

Julio Castillo

Dune is to Sci-fy what Lord of the Rings is to Fantasy, without Dune... our modern conception of Sci-fy would be significantly different. A lot of the sci-fy stories we know and love today took inspiration from the Dune novels, like Star Wars or Warhammer 40K (especially Warhammer). The only reason Dune hasn't been that prominent in Pop Culture is because it didn't have a super succesful Adaptation.... until now of course. Also... there's a third movie confirmed, which will be called Dune Messiah, It will adapt the second book written by Frank Herbert. Whether they will adapt the other 4 books after Dune Messiah or not.... we still don't know.

Patrick Waldeck

The novels (at least the first 4 in my opinion) are some of the greatest sci fi works of all time.

Dhaval Kale

Not just that there's so much more to parallel - of note, consider each of those characters, the one they love, but the ones they align or marry with usually for political reasons

Lance Ivy

"if there larger than taht imma cry " i dont play leathle company so i have never seen those worms ........these are larger

Lance Ivy

shai hulud , creator of all things consumer off all thing the begining and end .

Ainrev

So like... 24 movies if we do the prequels which would have the terminator movie you have always wanted to see in it... then the House books too. Dune makes LotR and Star Wars look like 1 shot comics. Best non spoiler, Dune, if shown in it's entirety, will have the literal most fantasy Sci-fi to ever exist.

Kap

Sadly, this s one of the worst adaptations of the Dune series so far. They changed so much for strange and unknown reasons. First off, the Baron isn't some moody motherfucker who looks like he never got past his emo phase. He's a sadistic bastard who takes great joy in the suffering of others, especially his playthings. He has red, not bald. He does actually smile and laugh, like in the scene with Leto using the tooth he floats away momentarily, but comes back and starts laughing at how Leto failed in his revenge, he doesn't cower on the ceiling, whimpering like a bitch. They assassinate his character most likely due to incompetence or not reading the book. Second, Fayed isn't a pale, pasty, bald headed freak. He is described as beautiful and very attractive to all women. He has red hair, a toned, tanned body, and a wicked intellect. He is a master fighter, and his body count in in the upper hundreds if not thousands, and that goes for kills and women he's bedded. Third is Liet Kynes. Liet is the father of Chani, leader of the Fremen, an imperial ecologist. His father was given appointment as ecologist by the Emperor of a Thousand Worlds and that role passed onto Liet after his death. He was not a woman with no familial ties to Chani. Finally, there's the making Paul into a certifiable wimp. Yes, he was a Dukes son, but that didn't mean he was utterly helpless and prone to listening to Evanescence. We see him show more than teenage poutiness in the books, such as when the Atreides host a dinner for local political figures, businessmen, and even Princess Irulan. He has no qualms about laughing and joking with Gurney or Duncan. This moody kid we got is nothing like the Paul written in the story. Oh, and I guess making Chani some weird second protag doesn't fit either. Yeah, she's important to the overall story, but it feels like the film wants to set her up as a counter to Paul.

Kapitány Zoltán

In the book, there was a different reason why they tought he is just playing with him. So far, he only trained with shield on. And only slow hits can go through the shield, so he always slowed down his strikes before contact. The fremens don't use shields and unfamiliar with this method, so they interpret it like he is just disrespecting his opponent by holding back. I don't know why they changed it for the movie, it made the whole introduction of the shield pointless, but it works this way too...

Lance Ivy

so this is my first watch of this serries of dune read the books watched the 1989 movie ... i know there are at least two movies both dune . like just the first book . at !09.34 at double the runtime a am baffeld how this seems to cover half of the details how did you make it so long while leaving so much out

Lance Ivy

i also hate this brown sppice

Call me Lilly, Lilith if ya Nasty.

Wait... this is *Worse* than 'thopters' that don't 'thopt', 'heart-plugs', Sting in a winged speedo and 'weirding modules'?

Call me Lilly, Lilith if ya Nasty.

Star Wars, Warhammer 40K, Battletech. All things you've covered before, all things that either drew a little or a lot (or in some cases out-right ripped-off) from DUNE (the original novel is from 1965, and it is a BRICK of a tome. That it's 'good enough to get an adaptation' is an understatement, the main thing that's held-back adaptation is that it's so damned Dense.

Kap

We got thopting thopters in the Sci-Fi miniseries. Sting in a Speedo was infinitely better than this Dune. Weirding way being a weapon wasn’t great, but as with the ornithopters, the miniseries did it right. The only thing this movie has going for it is the cgi. Turns out a massive budget means better cgi than a 1984 film or a Sci Fi miniseries from 2000

Julio Castillo

Let's be real here.... it is VERY unlikely that the novels written by Brian Herbert will ever be adapted into film. The 6 books written by Frank Herbert are the only ones that really deserve this kind of treatment, and that gives us material for 10-11 movies. Nothing against Brian and his co-writter (i forget his name) but even their best stuff doesn't hold a candle to Frank Herbert's writing.

Richard

I haven’t read the books so I wasn’t aware of that, and yea that makes a lot of sense as well. I suppose the change comes from why they don’t use shields in the first place, which is because it attracts the worms, and Paul was aware of this before the fight began and would know to adapt, so logically, they needed a new reason for why he wouldn’t immediately take the killing blow, and that reason being he was unwilling to take a life fits quite well with the more boyish and innocent portrayal of Paul that they had for Part One.

Lance Ivy

alot of stuff was not explained well so i feel the need to post this .. duke atraides was a good ruler and great at politics . the other houses for the most part loved him . so much so that his polital influnce kind of became a threat to the emporor. Baron Harkon not only ran Aarakus for a long time looking only at number his ran it very well the spice has never flowed so well as it did under there rule becasue they had no problem using slave labor and working many people to death to do it . years of record high spice production made the harkonins very wealthy ...so wealthy that they wealth thretened the emperor a little bit ...

Kapitány Zoltán

I really recommend the books, they are one of the greatest sci-fi novel series of all time. Sadly it cannot be adapted into a movie, and that is probably the main reason why they changed so much for making this. I enjoyed this movie version, it even contains most of the important plot points from the book, but there is no way they can explain things in just 2-3 hours, there is just too much in this fictional world.

Twiska Brand

Just before the fight at the end, Paul saw a vision of Jamis stabbing him and winning the duel, but sparing his life. If that had happened, Jamis would have taught him, and they would have been friends. You see him helping him up in the vision. But Paul chose to win the fight, thinking Jamis would accept the defeat, but instead, he forced him to kill him. Paul can see possible futures, but they aren't set in stone. That's not spoilers, just the way the movie should have possible timelines.

Effect Without Cause

No, in the vision Jamis killed Paul and held his hand as he was dying, in order to comfort Paul's last moments. Paul reversed the roles.

Twiska Brand

You sure? My interpretation tracks with his vision of him becoming his mentor. I assumed that was the point where the possible timelines diverged.

Salmonero

Yeah I wouldn’t mind a reaction to his whole filmography. We need some more peak, after slogging through the MCU

Lance Ivy

i mean if you care about the unverse and wanting to know what is actully happening yes ....if you want to see pretty camra shots and get half the story its the best

Lance Ivy

whats a mentat , why are they needed , wahts the spacing guild and why are they important , who is the emporors and whats his deal , what is the spice milage why is it so important . hell i dont think the word "milange " is in the script they just talk about raw spice

largo778 .

The Spice must Flow I do recommend the 1984 version (good movie but the ending totally missed the point), and the 2000 SyFy Dune and Children of Dune miniseries (best DIRECT adaptations of events, but misses a lot)

largo778 .

You called Caladan Cal, but in the books it eventually becomes known as Dan. Voice is a learned ability to modulate your voice to subcountiously make a person do what you aske them to. Skilled users can actually say one thing but command the target to do the opposite. They guy with eyes that gave the cost of the trip was a Mentat, a human who has trained to be a living super computer because (for reasons) all advanced computers are banned in the Dune universe. Personal opinion, this is the only version of Dune to get Paul accurate. He's suppose to be (in the books) about 15 and small for his age. Freman saying: God made Arrakis to test the faithful. The Baron is floating as he uses a gravity suspensors because of his weight, and has a really long cloak thingy. Kynes was a gender swap, though this is one of the few cases where the gender swap actually works better, though her death was a bit more dramatic than the book versions death.

Kaz

Dan the Dan

Vivica the witch

Dune is one of those sci-fi tales thats so influential that if you saw somthing that reminded you of something else, it was probably inspired by Dune.

Max

i always think of that post when watching this movie: "in a move so unsurprising there is a 1000-year old prophecy about it, a bunch of rich dudes are unable to peacefully share a planet made of cocaine"

CrazyChameleon

Just fyi the older version of this movie is campty cheesty and not at all accurate to the books. But it's still worth watching if you like a laugh. Also a few things that aren't explained in the movie. Jessica defied her order to give Leto a son because she loved him. She's walking a very fine line between being a traitor to her order and her loyalty to Leto. Jessica is by far not beyond criticism. But she's not quite as brainwashed as the movie makes her out to be. Second! Leto didn't marry Jessica she's his concubine. But he never got married the potential for an allience through marriage was too powerful of a political tool not to use. And third. It's not that men aren't powerful with the bene gesserit power it's that they are too powerful. And every man who tries to fully awaken to their powers dies in the process. But theoretically would be the most powerful bene gesserit of all. So they've been doing this breeding shit trying to make a man that can survive the process. The bene gesserit is less of a cult but rather a political organization that uses cults and religion to manipulate society. They are utterly cynical about it.

Silvia Dragoness

Wasn't planning to watch this entire reaction in one go, but...here we are. Bring on Part 2!

WillGlacier

Ngl all Ik about Dune is that it's what inspired Star Wars (and I THINK warhammer 40k a little bit) so REALLY hope the movies do the books their justice

SakakiMaya

The mother, Jessica, was Duke Leto's concubine, not his wife. That's why he says that he should have married her.

Miklar Sihn

Dune is often compared to LOTR and the first 3 Novels are good enough to warrant that comparison.

Miklar Sihn

I actually think that Kynes is one of the few people i have a hard time with being swapped, most others i wouldn't care. But that is mostly because of a plot that they skipped in the movie, so i don't care in the case of this adaptation. But a pretty big sideplot in the books, is how bad a parent Kynes is. He isn't there at the birth of his child and basically meets it for a few days in its childhood. Which is mostly important as characterization for that child, who gets way too little characterization.

Miklar Sihn

There is an important thing with the bulls head that they had hanging on the wall. That was the bull that killed Paul's grandfather.

Miklar Sihn

The Jamis befriends Paul future is an entirely different path. They very likely never fought in that path.

Miklar Sihn

It is worth mentioning that the ownership of Dune does change periodically. This happens because of the insane amount of power the house holding Dune gains.

largo778 .

I think the skipping of that side plot helped with me accepting Kynes.

Jarod Cain

It absolutely did. And one of the big sticking points about 40k is that GEOM is a failed Leto II who didn't continue the Golden Path. It's also one of the reasons why I never really liked the setting, it was fun in places but I'd rather have Sardukaar and Fremen than Space Marines.

Bastiwen

Some nomadic people in North Africa do wear black in the desert, except those are very loose pieces of clothing. It help circulate the air underneath by convection as it and also absobs more heat without it reaching the wearer's skin. Basically it's a natural way of protecting the skin as well as creating a fan effect below your cloths. But since Paul is wearing tight clothes he would be cooked.

Rampage melone

I feel like you guys were going way too deep when Paul first gets exposed to spice. He's basically having a first exposure high on the drug that is spice. It's overwhelming him, and then when his trainer/mentor comes to get him, he's saying I recognize your footsteps because nobody can sneak up on him. He recognizes his mentor's footsteps anywhere. He can't communicate with giant sand creatures lol. The thing he was hearing when he was tripping was A: the voices in his head saying he needs to awaken as the kwisatz haderack or B: the benne gezzerites saying it to him in the future, and him being able to hear the future conversations.

Daniel Siegfried

ok but what if a masochist puts their hand in the pain box?

Mechkami44

To be a Dune fan for decades the joy in my veins when someone does a proper theatrical version is so good. [And yes before my fellow book nerds do ERM AKCHUALLY, yes it is a good idea your favorite scene got cut. :3]

CrazyChameleon

Someone who knows they'll die if they don't? lol

CrazyChameleon

The movies mostly do. But there's some stuff they leave out that is .. telling .. in a mordern political way. And some additions 'desert spring tears'. That are just cheesy corny. And weren't in the books at all. It's all in all a great adaptation. I just wish they'd been ballsy enough not to skirt around some of the aspects of the lore. Also we're 2 movies in and they almost haven't even MENTIONED mentats or why they exist for example XD.

CrazyChameleon

In places yes .. There's a lot of stuff they skip for political corectness reasons or that they over emphasize with holywood memes such as bald bad guy harkonnens. The man does have a point. And some of the added dialogue is EXTREMELY cringe. Don't get me wrong it's a decent adaptation and it gets the dark political atmosphere far better than the sting one. However it's definitely got some 'style over substance' issues.

WillGlacier

actually it's better if they DON'T do the books justice. Like I'm sorry but I'm not trying to see a little infant come out of the womb, fully conscious speaking English and killing the leader of the enemy faction (again, as a fucking infant) My ass would NOT take any scene like that serious (and yes this is from the book)

PWAW
