This is the first Film in the new DC universe. However, Creature Commandos is technically the first show and project ( there are some small references to it ). Peacemaker S2 follows up after the events of this movie, then it's Super Girl, which has not been released yet.

Well it's unlikely to happen, they have plans to introduce another Batman in that universe. Pattinson's will get its sequel in its own corner. They could of course meet in some multiverse story, but even that would be far away, as they are busy building up that new universe.

? The film was fine. Yes he depowers Superman abit but in no way is he a weakling. The only times he’s really getting his ass kicked is when an exact, if not stronger, clone of himself controlled by Lex is kicking his teeth in. Or when he had been severely depowered by kryponite poisoning. We have still yet to see Superman fight regular opponents. As for krypto it doesn’t really matter what he looks like. But I am curious how they’re gonna integrate him in as Kara’s dog now. But either way damn good start to the new dcu

Well, technically you were supposed to watch The Suicide Squad before this movie, but it's not a big deal... Just like how it's no big deal if you decide to watch Deadpool & Wolverine before any of the MCU movies that came out before it. You really only needed to see Loki before Deadpool & Wolverine, so you can watch it anytime you want. (Unless you want to watch Blade first? Which is understandable.)

A lot of people want to say this superman is weak, but I just want to list his accomplishments so we can see how broken he actually is. He went three years fighting machines. aliens, monsters and metahumans without ever loosing. He survived for 24 hours being exposed to Kryptonite poisoning. While poisoned and holding a baby he fought a fought a group of men wearing Superhuman enhancing suits, survived an antiproton river, and saved himself and three others from the pull of a black hole. He fought two superpowered beings, one being his clone who was programmed by someone who knew all his kives while the other filled his lungs so he couldn't breathe, and won. He's arguably more stacked than any other superman, but because he's shown to actually be vulnerable unlike the previous superman he's seen as weaker by fans

Not because he's not smart enough to do so, but because his ego prevents him from ever seeing that possibility. Bonus sometimes he wins and becomes as strong as superman and often understands just how hard it actually must have been to BE superman and still be the good guy. Lex really is one of the most human characters, he just can't get himself to actually grow as a person for long term, the negative thoughts at the back of his head, the petty jealousy always bubbles up and ruins any progress he makes.

Anybody else feeling like Ghurkos is just Putin crossed with Borat? Also, Hawkgirl, my FAVORITE DC character AND Supergirl in my top three, in the SAME movie!? This entire movie felt like a personal love letter to me. The guy who tells Superman he has no rights is Rumlow from Winter Soldier. Jimmy, sweet Jimmy... is the kid from Night at the Museum and Gwen Stacy's brother from Amazing Spider-Man. So naturally, he can get it. I swear the cameos in this movie, give me such joy. I am admittedly ambivalent about seeing my baby boy, Hank McCoy, my Beast, playing a supervillain, but DAMN he brings such masterful work to the role. He ACTUALLY plays Lex Luthor the way I remember he was written to be portrayed. The jealousy, the ambition, the absolute need to topple Superman. Also, Fluoroantimonic Acid, is the strongest superacid we know of. Xenomorph blood doesn't even compare to this stuff. Just the fumes alone will kill you. It's my favorite superacid. Krypto is the goodest of all bois!! Kara showing up as a drunk party girl was the best part for me. I love it. I need more of her. I'm so sorry this turned into a novel, but Superman was my FAVORITE hero growing up. I grew up on Christopher Reeves' movies and the cartoons. Him and Batman. I just love this film, it brings tears to my eyes everytime I watch, it's so lore friendly and spot on. 11/10 definitely gonna watch again.

It's not a matter of just changing their mind, when they have a clear roadmap and planned acts within chapters. Sure you'd adjust with hits and flops, but that's mostly it. They already are in development for at least one core DCU Batman movie titled "The brave and The Bold" , alongside The Batman 2.

This movie was one of my favorite recent superhero films. It doesn’t do an origin story, but it still gives you enough to understand the context. And Superman is written VERY well here. He’s strong, sure. But his biggest strength is his humanity. If you’re interested in other James Gunn movies Suicide Squad (2021) was also very good (not to be confused with the 2016 movie).

I know it was finished in 2023; I just find it really funny how closely Gunn’s idea for “billionaire Lex Luthor’s evil scheme to legally kill Superman” ended up resembling what real life countries and defense contractors were doing at the same time this was being filmed. I LOVE THIS MOVIE! Dad and I saw it together in theaters, and we literally told each other this was the Superman movie we'd been waiting to see our whole lives. After being let down by Man of Steel, Superman Returns, and Batman v. Superman, this was such a wonderful return to form for the guy, of him being this symbol of hope and optimism and just KINDNESS.

I’ve seen a few people in the comments suggest this, so let me give you a timeline so you can understand the new DCU: The Suicide Squad (2021) Peacemaker Season 1 Creature Commandos Season 1 Superman (What you just saw, lol) Peacemaker Season 2 (Just aired it’s first episode today) The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker S1 were made in the DCEU (The universe made by Zach Snyder) BUT when James Gunn took over he scrapped the DCEU and those two into his own continuity. I bring this up because both of those projects referenced characters in the DCEU, so if you watch those and are confused, now you know. But yes, for the new DCU, watch those films in the order to fully get the timeline.

I typically don't mind whether a hero does or doesn't kill but if I were to make a case against them doing so, It'd be like if a cop was given the ok to just kill any perp they come across. In comics there definitely are a bunch of villains who deserve the death penalty (Joker) but I'd put more blame on the courts, there's also a few heros who started as villains, Plasticman being the prime example.

I'm really happy you reacted to this movie, I love Superman and the sheer hope that he embodies. Also a cool thing that I saw from an interview with James Gunn is that he says this film is really his first superhero movie technically, as Guardians of the Galaxy was more sci-fi and about space adventurers and then Suicide Squad is about super villains and so this is the first movie he's made that's about more of a traditional superhero.

There are multiple human green lanterns. Kyle Rayner, Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Jessica Cruz, and Guy Gardner, the one in this movie. I'm pretty sure there are more, but those are the ones I know off the top of my head. Guy Gardner is also known as "the worst Green Lantern" cuz he's a dixk. Remember, lanterns don't necessarily need to be good people, it's based on willpower.

I think... the best way I can describe this movie is sincere. Just... sincere. Everything superman does is... like its not emotional in the sense where he flies off the handle at just anything, but he leads with his heart throughout, and that's pretty much what superman is, a guy with a big goofy smile, his underwear on the outside of his suit and perhaps a little too much faith in every living thing. And the movie is like that too in an odd way, like its wearing its heart on its sleeve, like its not ashamed to be a superhero movie. Superman and Supergirl differ in one important way. Krypton. Clark was sent as a baby to Earth the loss of Krypton and everything on it, is a intellectual loss to him. I ugly cried watching this in the theatre, and I'll do it again. The bit with his dad and those kids raising the flag, and the ending, it all hits so well. I love how thematically complete the movie is. Mr Terrific, who owns every moment he is on screen, is an egotistical genius. So he's like Luthor, but because of his choices, he's good. Ultraman is a clone, genetically superman, but making no choices. Lantern and Hawkgirl are also metahumans, but their choices initially lean towards inaction, and in their first scene with superman we can see the crowd isn't really into them. Then they change up and we get a callback moment where everybody is thanking them, shaking hands etc. AI slurs - we must fulfill this need. Could be "elms" or "lems" from LLM. "Bots" has been around a while. Maybe Smiths as a Matrix callback. And one more thing - I love that the movie is brightly lit. The fight in the stadium is great, really easy to watch. The Snyderverse is so bland and dark, it just sucks.

James Gunn has made "ensemble/found family" movies that happen to be about super enhanced individuals. Clark and Lois relationship is a big thing and very grounded because the movie is about Clark Kent. it's about how superman is a good guy. it's not ABOUT how he is superpowered. so like - they make the conflict that - he can't be in two places at the same time.... which he solves by having friends!! LITERALLY THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP!!! and even after all of that superhero shit - a subplot in Lex trying to dismantle Superman becomes his existential crisis knowing the intentions of his blood parents turned out to be exactly the opposite to what he grew up thinking.... is resolved in an extremely poignant poetry of the human condition... without that kernel the movie would be a lot less for it...

Supergirl is the next DCU movie, comes out next year and its gonna have a VERY different tone. Her story is more about Survivers Guilt and PTSD then the "Hope" theme that Superman has. Jason Mamoa is gonna be in it as Lobo, the character he wanted to play in the old DCEU. If the DCU continues with this level of quality, it will beat Marvel for once. Marvel is finally stepping up the quality again with the last couple movies, but they need to keep the same quality they had for The Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four if they wanna compete with movies on par with Superman.

It kinda shows you, Clark is a lil scared of Supergirl, she tanked all that ‘playful stuff’ from Krypto after being weakened by a Red Sun so she could actually get drunk. He got winded anytime Krypto tried to played with him so that show the gap at least of this version of Superman and Supergirl. I love that they put the messed up supergirl. People often try to put her as the other nice "good explorer" girl as superman is the "good boyscout", but think about it: she was 15yo when krypton exploded and was sent to earth but in animated sleep and didnt aged. She arrived 30 years later than clark and that means she was 30 years sleeping and mostly dreamimg about the last hours of krypton, remembering everything over and over, including the fact that she did, in fact, have a live and memories there: her moms, her friends, maybe someone special, she at least get her dog, but then she arrives and she didnt do the thing her uncle say to clark and: she was there when they recorded that! so she knew that and decided that was BS and that Clark was doing ok and was a good person for choosing what was right to his heart, and then she choosed to do the same! but then again, she DO have the traumatic past that was looped in her mind for 30 years... no wonder i liked how they represented that in the animated series of DC Superherogirls (by laurenfaust) where she is an aggresive tomboyish girl but nice in the end, she managed to handle her trauma and anger issues in different ways and there is an episode that didnt make it into air, (according with lauren faust, since they canceled the show) that there was a villain that defeated everyone, even superman, by using their worst nightmares against them to make them feel weak and powerless, but then supergirl shows up late and just walks throu and stops the villain without problem, and the villain and everyone thinks the stuff didnt work on her but she then at the end of the episode was supposed to explain to everyone that did in fact worked but her worst nightmare was to lose her new friends and she is used to watch it every night when she went to sleep, she sees it, she already watch it at home 30 years ago and was put on repeat for 30 years (20 in the show) so is not something she is afraid that make her weak now, because she know how it feels, thats why she act so angerish and strong and aggresive all the time or for some, act careless, because she already lose everything once, so she has a YOLO style of life, yes, she was also afraid of losing her new friends but she already lose her moms too, and that memory is engraved forever in her mind, and she knows how it feels, and the villain trying to make her feel that again didnt weak her but rather make her stronger because she is the only one there who already knows how that feels, and she wont allow that in her watch, not as long as she can keep fighting

I heavily believe spiderman and the flash are overly populated heroes within each repesective universe. I understand each universe is a multiverse and there for, there is potentially an unlimited amount of heroes of one variety... the amount of spider mans and flashes severely outnumbers the doppelganger of other heroes and villians. This movie is so stuffed full of little easter eggs, I can't wait to see the ones I missed: From the obvious comicbook stuff, like the Justice gang is obviously an early Justice League (they even lived in the iconic hall of justice) to the more obscure like the company logo of Stagg industries (relevant to Rex/Metamorpho) and Maxwell Lord or that the government at the end guy was credited as Rick Flagg Sr. father of the Rick Flag Jr. from suicide squad. Even the cast was full of hidden fun, like Gary/robot #4 was voiced by Alan Tudyk who voiced K-2SO in rogue One Two of the other Robots was voiced by Michael Rooker and Pam Klementieff Yondu and Mantis respectively from Guardians of the galaxy Maxwell Lord who was sponsoring the Justice Gang was played by Sean Gunn, the little brother of the director/writer and was also in both Guardians and Suicide squad

Btw Mr T should probably be more well known than he is, but DC wise Batman kind of displaces most other "genius" type heroes. The thing is that Batman was just kind of "The World's Greatest Detective" but over time he kind of by way of over exposure just outright became the "can do anything smart people related." Like, imagine if Tony was so hyper popular that anytime anything in Marvel happened they only ever just used him and no one else. No Hulk/Banner, Pym, Wakanda/Shuri, Rocket, no Beast, no Mr Fantastic, no Sue Storm. All of it just Iron Man. The thing with Lex not knowing who Superman is, is that Superman is believed to NOT have a civilian identity. So Lex doesn't think to look for one. In the versions where he does find out that Clark is Superman, usually he wouldn't believe it because to him it would be like admitting your greatest nemesis is just some lowly reporter and that being Superman is the side job. Lex's ego just can't handle it.
