This is probably my favorite horror film of all time. Nobody thought that John Krasinski could act as a serious role because he has mostly been in comedy and most notably in The Office. He has the most expressive face when acting imo, and everyone actually learned sign language for the film from the deaf daughter’s actor, who’s actually deaf, and her mentor. It adds so much to the movie with the sound as well. And they actually grew the cornfield in upstate New York and bought 20 tons of corn seed to do it from the locals.

Fun Fact, the actor for the Hard of Hearing Character is Actually Hard of Hearing in real life and they use actual Sign Language specifically ASL (American Sign Language)

As someone learning ASL, this film is so fun cause you can tell the family is still learning/has their own unique style as they’ve adapted. Really cool to watch this film with the knowledge of sign, i really recommend more people try to learn it as it is easier than most would think!!!

im not saying they dont have their differences. its just funny that while they do have slightly different rolls, they are literally both hearing aids. literally, metaphorically and any other way you want to put it, at the end of the day, they are both just devices that help you hear, thats it

Watching this in theatres will always be burned into my brain, no one made a single peep because of how immersed we all were!

The shotgun blast attracted the ones in the area. If you remember the white board, there are only 3. The 2 we saw on the one monitor looking at the field are the same 2 that pass the road. They move crazy fast when at full sprint. One the silly things about the movie is the whole "bulletproof" bit. Just because you stop the bullet, doesn't mean you stop the energy behind it. This is why bulletproof armor can still leave nasty bruises on people after they get shot. The alien chitin isn't thick enough to negate the transfer of kinetic energy, so a few round from something thick like .50 will definitely pulp the insides of the creatures. Hell, if the shotgun mom has is using solid slugs, she could end the beast with 2 shots to the head even if the armor is in place.

Honestly I only have 2 problems with this film both of which are just nitpicks. 1st if it’s established that you can hide next to loud noises why not move some where that is loud. Like a dam or even by that waterfall to at least have the baby. The other is if you know they track by sound only and know they are highly sensitive to it then it’s kinda obvious to try high frequencies on them. Like I said just nitpicks film is still a 9/10

Yeah the bulletproof thing would make more sense if the creature had more fat behind the armor to absorb all that energy but their lanky asses should be able to absorb anything. They honestly didn’t even need to mention the bulletproof part with how fast they move. Even if you did find and kill one standing still you’ll be killed by a different one in less than 10 seconds.

Moving somewhere was probably not an option looking at their food situation, and even if the parents themselves managed to find something like that close enough what are you gonna do after? Leave the baby there?

Laws of energy for sure apply but that doesn't mean the aliens are built like us or that they would even be made up of the same materials found on earth, theres already plenty enough absorbing materials in the known space with more being found out slowly so the notion that there exist something out THERE that would absorb even more kinetic energy is not even a reach

You have to imagine that the world’s militaries would have made some kind of concentrated effort to take them out. It would make more sense if they got overwhelmed by sheer numbers rather than the aliens being so impervious to weapons that the entire arsenal of the US armed forces was labeled as useless.

I am not the biggest fan of horror. But this a 10 as a movie. It feels so real. I love this movie. And then the cast was amazing. The wife being his real wife. The girl being deaf in real life too. And now I hear the budget and in what little time this was made🤯.

There is horror that is loud and scary and tries its best to make you scared and uncomfortable. Then there's horror where they let the suspense and fear build to scare you. I like that more. Sure a jump scare and someone being hacked to death will make you feel fear. But it making you scared of someone moving a box so it doesn't make noise is a special kind of suspense that's harder to do well.
