Gotta stop calling them terrorists

Legionistuc

I blame walker's mentality on sam and bucky, all he wanted was help and guidance but they chose themselves before the mission.

PurportedGrey

I genuinely love this suit so much (it's looks super close to his comic suit), but sadly it got lost along the way to the new Cap movie. As a whole, this show's biggest flaw was its writing. Not in how it handled the cultural talking points with Isaiah and Sam, that stuff was the strongest and most impactful parts of the show, and not even in Sam’s speech to the GRC. The real issues were structural. First, like most Disney+ shows, it felt like a movie script awkwardly stretched into six episodes, leading to uneven pacing and moments that dragged or felt rushed. Second, the themes, from post-Blip displacement to nationalism, race, trauma, and power, were often juggled messily, without enough depth or cohesion. Important plotlines like the GRC or the Flag Smashers’ motivations were introduced but never fully explored, leaving the show feeling disjointed. Character arcs like Bucky’s healing or Karli’s descent into extremism weren’t given the time or clarity they needed to fully land. The show had a lot of potential and some standout moments, but overall, its writing held it back from being as impactful or focused as it could have been. And sadly I feel this is the same problem with Cap 4 too.

Cabo Boose

Did alicia just say Wolverine and Adamantium were from DC?! XD

LeRezwarrior

A group using terror tactics like car bombs, hostages, and attacking civilians seem very terrorists to me. They probably didn't start out that way but they definitely strayed into that term.

xman t

I am so glad you enjoyed this. I always liked this show(hot take: i actually found it better than wandavision, though not as good as Loki as a whole), but it definitely got a lot of criticism when it came out. People were not at all happy that sam became captain america and they hated the speech he gave to the senator.

Alex Pinals

oh nooo alicia dont confuse wolverine as a dc character the youtube comments will be livid!! remember mutants are marvel deadpool and wolverine, lol

Okoga

Oof, Alicia gonna get cooked for that one tiny part with a huge mistake.

King'sBard

After Karli bombed that building? No, I don't think we will.

MrHyde

I'm honestly so glad Alicia liked Sam's speech to the crowd as much as I did. I've seen people online criticize it, claiming it was just hollow preaching, or that he was defending Karli, but at no point did he claim she was right or justified. He just called out that so many people across the world were willing to support her, because the issue that radicalized her was a real issue. That refusing to acknowledge that issue, or just dismiss the Flag Smasher's as another terrorist organization will only lead to more people becoming radicalized like Karli. The show overall does have problems, but I'm still happy I watched it, and I'm glad Alicia had a good time with it

Matthew Newton

Gotta say after rewatching this through you, I still don't like the villains all too much but I adored all of the character interactions we got of our homies. There's a lot this show did incredibly well with and there's a lot this show did.. not do well with. Overall, fun show for sure

Vendacator

I laughed just as hard as I remembered at Sam's speech

The Lazy Gamer

They didn't owe him anything, and on top of that John is a doer, not a talker, no diplomacy. Yeah in the end he wants to do good but his more toxic traits got the better of him.

Phantom Penance

Sam’s speech almost ruined the show for me. But it’s still in the top three Disney shows. What irks me is that they just dump Sharon Carter where she is. A decent writer has the opportunity to mix her, Valentina, and some other characters yet to be introduced to create MCU’s version of the Cabal

terrell thaddies

To the people on here that claimed she wouldn't like Sam's speech when she bascially shared a same sentiment on the last episode, looked crazy rn. Sam's speech is something that needed to be said and I stand ten toes down on it especially in today's worldview

Damon

They didn’t owe Karlie anything either yet Sam had more sympathy for her than to just talk to John about his PTSD like Sam has done before, Karlie and John seem both dangerous but have a conscience.

Hellguin

I love your reactions to everything I have watched, including these Marvel shows. Your media literacy due to your background make your reactions just the best. So many people hated Sam's speech and John's attack, but you understand it.

Just a Genius

Her Adamantium whoopsy at 5:30 gave me an aneurism with how hard I whiplashed from “oh nice she caught her own mistake” straight down to “AAAAAAAAAGHHGGH!!!”

Damon

I’m actually curious about people’s opinion of this, should Sam have gotten a new superhero name of his own? Sam has the shield so he’s still Captain America but he should be an evolved version. Does anyone have interesting name ideas?

Moviejunkie

I can’t wait for you to see Thunderbolts.

Todd “Canuck” Schmuck

Now that Sam has three Red wing drones, I vote he changes two of them to White wing and Blue wing. Then Captain America has his “Red Wing, White Wing, and Blue Wing”. 😏

Dr. JB (h.c.)

Pretty much this. He and Lamar save them from the flagsmashers, they give him attitude. He gets Bucky released from jail and gives them intel they have about the Flag Smashers, they give him attitude. He confronts them about breaking Zemo of all people out of jail, they give him attitude. Wakandans literally try and murder him from no reason, they give him attitude. Combine that with Sam constantly defending Karli, and of course he wouldn't react right. It is especially bad when Sam said about Karli that it was due to her loss that she would be in a state where they can talk things out. What does Sam do when John is in a state of loss after Lamar died? Tried to take the shield rather than talk things out. The fact that even after all that, even after the Flag Smashers murdered Lamar, etc. that he still ultimately chose to try and save lives rather than get revenge on Karli shows that he is, fundamentally, a good man (after all, the serum makes one more of themself and as he stated early on that he wanted to help people be safe).

John Playstation

She tried to make it better but just kept digging deeper 😂

Kyle Hennett

You did not just say Wolverine was a DC hero?

PrivateXimmy

I think the point was he specifically was caring a mantle. No need to change the name

Fenronin (Dorian Dubourg)

I'm dead they really pick someone who clearly does not talk french (well he might be from quebec so same thing) made him say random french expressions this is pretty racist ngl

Blue Wing

I agree for no partiklar reason at all.....

Todd “Canuck” Schmuck

I think the differing reactions to Sam’s speech depends on how jaded people are about current politicians. 10-15 years ago, a speech like that can have real weight. While many feel that anyone incapable of feeling any shame can’t be stirred to do the right thing by words. I’m a bit mixed. I get the sentiment, but accepting that the current state will never improve/change does nothing but become self fulfilling.

Dr. JB (h.c.)

@The Lazy Gamer Yes, John is not a talker, which is why when the Dora Milaje showed up and immediately threw a spear at his head as they walked in the room his first instinct was to talk things out. Wait, no, that is diplomacy... Is it that he isn't diplomatic because after the Flag Smashers started killing innocent civilians he thought they were past talking to? Because that isn't a lack of diplomacy, that is just having a line. Maybe not as much of a line as Steve or Sam (and Sam's was so far to the extreme he still wasn't willing to actually fight Karli until the end), but that doesn't make him undiplomatic.

Beryl Strifeclaw

...Wolverine is Adamantium and is Marvel. XD I don't feel like the stakes or emotions of this episode reach the peak that was present in the previous. I liked his speech, I just didn't think it carried as much gravitas as the man who came before him, but then he's not the man who came before him and he'll hold his own, his own way. Still, hearing your take on it makes me appreciate it a lot more. And I completely forgot that Zemo did kill the last of the Super Soldiers in the end there through his butler. How did I forget that? XD

terrell thaddies

Which I understand but the point of the speech is to do better and make the world a better place regardless of race and gender The reason why I said that cuz while some people think that it's peachy, it's a huge shame that the sentiment has to be repeated over and over again for people to see reason That's why I also love X-men 97 cuz not only that it respects the source material and what was in the OG 90s series, but also tackles these same questions like the OG 90s series I always love Marvel and cape shit for escapism, but people keep forgetting that Marvel has always reflected upon what's outside our windows because of escapism or a different viewpoint and just only cares about the hero shit. They don't want to think

terrell thaddies

Sam's speech was something that needed to be said. So to each their own

Adam

Sam's Speech was the entire point of the show.

Adam

When they use Terror to get what they want, they're Terrorists. Just like MAGA.,

nervouspirate

If anyone deserves a little racism it’s the French, and maybe the British.

Lee Aguera

God im so excited for Thunderbolts. Gal is going to absolutely love it.

nervouspirate

I will warn you that Captain America Brave New World is Marvel’s most troubled production since Thor The Dark World. Writer’s Strike in the middle of production followed by a lot of rewrites and reshoots once the strike was over (rumored to be because they wanted to avoid unwanted relevance to “world events”). Got delayed a year, so last minute that they were contractually obligated to still release the McDonalds toys with the original release date.

GT QcNumber1 Vézina

there's always that person that doesn't understand what French is. tsk tsk tsk

Fei Ashtear

This is exactly what the movie was trying to caution against. Once you give someone a Big Scary Label you no longer have to recognize them as people. Instead seeing why they have been pushed to an extreme, you treat them as demons to be purged.

Pell D. indestructible

What to Sharon was complete character assassination, the MCU writers screwed her over badly

DeVaunBeats

Adamantium and Wolverine is Marvel. I had to go back and listen to what you said again cause I was sure I was the one confused lol. You got everything all tangled up.

nervouspirate

Honestly, I like her more as a villain than Captain America’s rebound

Vivica the witch

I think the speech was better then i remember it being. Maybe the political climate has just shifted enough that someone telling political leaders to shut up and do their damn jobs to help people hits more.

Pell D. indestructible

It's a 180 from how she was written in the movies and a super big departure from the comics, in the comics Peggy doesn't really have that much history with Captain America, Sharon has been the main love interest for like 95% Cap's existence

Narluga

ehhh i dont know how i feel. yeah its preachy but my problem is them saying hey its complicated and its going to take time then him saying do better. like what am i supposed to do lol. also love that shes the power broker

Narluga

i also wish we had more episodes to explore bucky and his redemption

Narluga

i do love sam and his arc was awesome but man does he need a helmet or something before gets headshot

Narluga

damn we need a prequel with Isiah when he was on mission!

EnderSlayer366

not sure how you even make that mistake when one of the last movies you watched was deadpool and wolverine lmao

EnderSlayer366

You're right Alicia, 90% of Marvel fans hated Sam's speech because all they seem to remember is "Do better, senators." I always thought this show was way overhated, and to be honest I'm surprised you fucked with the speech, I thought you'd think it's corny. And it's great that you like it, and equally great how much you love (and already did love) Sam as a character, especially going into Brave New World, another project that's way overhated.

Brayden Hadley

I actually would love to see Steve and Isaiah met for a second end credit scene. Both good old men with a great history of justice. But I guess according to Sam, Steve actually died (I think, or it could be that he's not captain america no more). But still i think it would be a lovely ending for both heroes of the same era

Phantom Penance

It was cliché, too long, and down-talking. I felt massive secondhand embarrassment listening to it.

PotterBrony

Also had a brain fart on which universe Wolverine is.

Vectoris

Adamantium and Vibranium are both marvel super metals. The DC equivalent of those would probably be either nth metal (hawkgirl and hawkman's weapons and armor, and one of Batman's apocalypse grade suits) or dwarf star alloy (the atom's suit is made of this, and Batman probably also has a suit made of this, idk for sure, but he's got everything, so...).

Sam Marsh

I absolutely loved Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Sam is truly the perfect guy to take the torch from Steve. Unfortunately I never watched Captain America: Brave New World. I was so hyped that Sam was getting his own movie, but my enthusiasm diminished due to a certain controversial casting choice. (If you’re familiar with the geo-political climate at the time, you’ll know which one I mean).

nervouspirate

Oh I almost forgot, instead of going straight to Cap 4, I do recommend one of Marvel’s Halloween-y things for the end of October. Werewolf by Night is their Halloween Special, but they also got Agatha All Along, arguably Moon Knight, and outside of the MCU they got the Blade Trilogy and 2 Ghost Rider Movies.

Silver Blade

5:00 oh no... her brain IS fried - she said Wolverine was DC ... lol

Bologna Amputation

Man, people really are just irony-poisoned and allergic to sincerity, hating that speech as much as they do. That was fantastic.

Bologna Amputation

The Isaiah closure was so good, so heartfelt and satisfying. It's not just about the future worth fighting for, but the past that must not be forgotten.

Daisy Azuras

Yeah, I was just about to say isn’t Wolverine and adamantium Marvel as well I mean, I know that but I’m just saying I’m trying to think if any of these metals get used in DC I know they use kryptonite a lot, but I can’t really think of special metal in the DC universe

ExcelDamage

cooked herself trying to not cook herself

Purist

I'm sorry, I don't agree with the ending. The GRC was right to try and relocate the refugees from the Blip, and Sam's logic is not sound. Do they just stay where they are? Like, you can't make nice with everything and just ignore that a multinational terrorist group is out there, still. I also don't agree that the why the Flag Smashers did what they excuses the how. Again, they, are, terrorists. If you resort to that extreme an action, your arguments and cause is invalid. Again, aside from that, John Walker/US Agent is one of my top five characters to come Post-Endgame, you'll see later why. I haven't watched Brave New World yet, I heard it wasn't that good, but let's see! Sorry for the massive text wall, I needed to get my thoughts out. Glad you enjoyed it, though!

Daisy Azuras

Sam’s speech at the end it’s still as powerful now as it was when it was first aired because our world is still so broken and his message is that we that sit in privilege should have the empathy to recognize those without and to help lift everybody up to a level playing field

Seroili

I just hate the fact that the new Cap is someone who hops on a soapbox to run defense for terrorists.

Verdigree

Ohhh... Wolverine isn't DC, because Marvel Comics went bankrupt in the 90s, they sold the movie rights to groups of characters, the X-Men and Spider-Man were the most popular comics in the world at the time, selling the rights off saved the company, remember Professor X was in the Doctor Strange sequel because Disney in their move toward monopoly managed to acquire 20th Century Fox wholesale, but the X-Men have been disconnected from their context for so long I can see how that can happen, Wolverine and Steve Rogers are in fact war buddies from WWII

Purist

I mean, yeah. I suppose it is a very human reaction to just try and get the difficult stuff over with as fast as possible.

Vargr

This show is ridiculous with its treatment of certain characters. Sam shows sympathy for a super-soldier terrorist who, just a few episodes earlier, blew up a depot full of innocent people. He attacked John Walker, whose friend was literally killed by those same terrorists. The whole thing is completely backwards. No one would dishonourably discharge a three-time Medal of Honor recipient for killing a terrorist who had just tried to kill him moments before.

froge

Tbf, originally the Flag Smashers had a much better motivation but it was changed last second in editing. The GRC was much more evil (turning the camps into quarantined death camps instead of distributing vaccines for a deadly pandemic, just because it was the cheapest option).

Chronos Hoffman

Agreed (to Seroili). No matter their motivations, the moment you use acts of terror and murder civilians to get your way, you’re a terrorist and you need to go down.

Chronos Hoffman

Saying to not call them terrorists is de facto defending them. They’re terrorists, they used acts of terror and violence and killed civilians in order to get their way. At that point, while it’s good to look at the why, it’s also still important to acknowledge that no matter their motivations they, are, still, terrorists.

Chronos Hoffman

@Fei Ashtear While it’s important to look at the why, when you’ve crossed that line and start killing civilians without care to get your way, you’re a terrorist. No matter the why behind what you’ve done, you’ve crossed a line that shouldn’t be crossed, and need to be taken down.

Vargr

People hate that he shows sympathy to a super-soldier terrorist who has killed innocent people. This is not the same Sam that we've come to know and love, the writers destroyed him.

Bologna Amputation

He doesn't show her sympathy for her terrorist actions, he shows empathy for the fact that she felt she had no other choice, and cautions the gathered politicians that if they force people into that position again, it will happen again. Come on, dude, have some comprehension.

Bologna Amputation

Sam shows sympathy for a person who thought she had no choice but to kill and cautioned the senators to fix the situation lest another person feel similarly cornered. John Walker didn't just 'kill a terrorist', he disemboweled a person in public with what may as well have been the literal American flag - of COURSE Sam attacked him, seeing Cap's title and legacy utterly disrespected like that.

Vargr

They were on a counter-terrorism operation to find and apprehend the flag smashers, the man he killed assisted Karly as she attempted to kill Walker by holding him down, not to mention, he put the lives of civilians at risk when he ran from the scene after they killed Lamar (he may not have delivered the blow but he is just as responsible) and threw a bin or water fountain in Walker's direction. How would this be disrespectful to Cap's legacy? He was a soldier, he killed many people with that shield, or is it only because the flag smashers were shown in a sympathetic light that Walker is blamed? IRL He would not have been discharged for his actions, at most he would have had his title as captain america stripped away.

LegitPotatoes

Haven't seen anyone mention it so I will go ahead and recommend getting a recap for The incredible hulk it's been many years and Harrison Ford is a recast for "thunderbolt" Ross*, the general and antagonist from that movie. Also I have seen people mention it but I really wanted to happen so I'll mention it again, please watch Moon Knight it's very good and another marvel character that you would recognize from the rivals roster *Edited from the auto correct typo of thunderbolt rocks lol

Eric Miller

“The Moon haunts you!” I really liked Moon Knight. (Also lol at Thunderbolt Rocks)

LegitPotatoes

The autocorrect haunts me apparently! That's what I get for commenting on mobile lol

Joey245

I loved this show, and I loved seeing your reaction to it! You gave a lot of insights I hadn't even considered, to the point that I like the show now even more than I originally did. Thanks for watching this Alicia! Looking forward to how you like Brave New World, because I'm like one of three people on Earth who liked that movie lmao

Joey245

Also, I think that old man who blew up the Flag Smasher truck was Zemo's butler dude, carrying out his master's mission of removing all possible super soldier serum sources in the world.

PandaIzumi

Problem is while John is on an operation, it should be assumed that because he works directly for the government, he should be getting proper clearances for things. especially when he's going to be in another country. He wasn't necessarily following any protocols. He followed after Sam and Bucky without giving anyone a heads up because "as long as he got the job done it didn't matter how." Add to the fact he also secretly took the serum on his own without any permission from anyone (I'd assume the government you're working for would want that first),.

Bologna Amputation

I really, really don't care about this enough to argue with your myopic ass.

Vargr

I can agree about the serum - though to be fair they didn’t actually know he took the serum, not sure if that’s changed with thunderbolts or not. The way this show treats clearances is confusing enough - realistically, it would be Bucky and Sam who don’t have the clearance to be in another country, as we’re never told how exactly they get these ‘contracts’ John on the other hand, I believe he is under the authority of the GRC which does give him the necessary clearance to go into these European countries and hunt down the flag smashers. P.s I hope no one thinks I’m arguing, just having a discussion, everyone is entitled to their opinion

Cyber

came here for that..

BigNotori

Thunderbolts is so close yet so far 😔

Kieron Hayes

I know it got a lukewarm reception from many, but I maintain that Falcon & the Winter Soldier is a great series, and one of the best of the D+ entries. Fantastic work showing Sam rising into the role of Captain America, Bucky's arc hits so hard, John Walker has a great introduction and setup as a morally conflicted character. It's not perfect: I think Karli's progression is the major issue it has, feeling like she dives into outright villainy too rapidly. I think her (accidentally) murdering Lemar should've been her first time actually killing anyone, with that then leading to rapid escalation from John's retaliation, etc, and episodes prior to that focusing on the good (but outside the system) work she does.

Michael

“Wolverine from DC”

Michael

I’m surprised Alicia got caught off guard by the power broker thing, I thought it was pretty obvious the second they did the first ominous camera linger on her.

Iruma Mob 100

I know…I’m still waiting…two Marvel films left until she’s caught up and the one I want to see her react to (Thunderbolts*) is the last of the two

Darc Hart94

This show is a failure in every aspect except for one. John walker. He was the only one in the whole show who made any fucking sense.

Darc Hart94

He could have just been the American eagle. But he would never have been captain america to me, especially when hes taking the gimmicks of like 5 other superheroes

Darc Hart94

They were terrorists. They deserved worse. Sam's soap box bullshit doesn't fly with me. Remember when in the avengers movies steve was regularly killing terrorists that didn't have superpowers?

Apofisu

I have no idea what you're talking about, unless you're MAGA.

Sam Marsh

I was trying to be subtle about it, but if you must know, I was referring to the fact that the film featured a character based on Sabra, an Israeli “superhero” and mossad agent, played by an actress who served in the IDF, during the height of the Gaza genocide.
