Mr.M

THATS IT S3. THERES NO S4,5,6,7,8. THE PERFECT ENDING. EVERYTHING ELSE THAT HAPPENS AFTER THIS IS JUST A BIG DREAM OKI 😭

SleppyPanda

I diagree s4 and s5 are alright

Ali

I'd personally delete this, as its not an out right spoiler but does insinuate to events after s3

Buğrahan Bilaloğlu

s4-5 alright ? dude s4 is the best season and everyone knows it and s5 is arguably better than s3

Owlcatcher

I mean this is all incredibly subjective. I think S4 is...tolerable at least.

Sad Frog

season 4 and 5 are great, the writing is still tight and the story makes sense

Crofo

Can't say I enjoyed the events of S4. but it was still well made. 5 onwards is where things just drive off a cliff

Darc Hart94

Honestly with how Dexter's been acting in every season I'm believing less and less that he's actually a sociopath

Sam Tolan

Demented daddy dexter is a reference to the naming scheme of the books "darkly dreaming dexter" "dearly devoted dexter" ect Also if you were wondering season 1 is pretty much 1 to 1 with the first book but from then on the series is completely different that's why dexter seems much less psychopathy in s2 and 3

Owlcatcher

I don't think there will be many conversations about Dexter S3 in my future but if one such occasion happens, I'm fully stealing the term "Spectral Harry"

Azaxul

Dont you take away Trinity from me.

Azaxul

Dearly Devoted Dexter is the second novel so that line could have been a little nod to the books.

Taavi

I think it is still so crazy that the actors for Dexter and Debra startet Dating, got married and divorced during this shows run.

A

All I can think of watching this season is how WILD it'd have been if they went with the book version of the Skinner. Like I don't even think they'd be able to broadcast it, back in the day.

Goose

No shot in hell 5 is better than 3, 5 is the worst season other than the last 4 episodes of season 8

Shoopdawoop

in regards to miguel not telling about the skinner, probably some mutually assured destruction type stuff, i go you go type deal.

cyberspacecat

The show definitely made changes, essentially he was made to be more sympathetic and emotional - I like his show character, but it does feel incongruent with what they established. Also ! do not look up anything right now due to spoilers ! but after you're done, read up on what the differences are from the books, it's *a ride*!

Calixion Arts

The hell are you talking about??? XD 6,7, but especially 8 are some of the worst Dexter I had the displeasure of sitting through.

MIce1987

Loving the Dexter reactions! How long until the Demented Daddy Dexter season? Hopefully soon, I know you have your plate full but I'm excited for it.

Narluga

honestly i always like when dexter talks to ghost dad lol

Kalinka

well yes they made him likable and set the base to change him in s 1. If you want it the other way around I recommend the show "You" on netflix

Elias

Tons of fun watching the season and seeing the reactions! Hope the medical stuff goes smoothly!

random gamer

the specter harry is needed for a reason u will find out

Nick Lopez

S4 of you is the best in my opinion

Nick Lopez

Oh boy we all know what comes next, its season we've all been waiting for.

Araius

Regarding the pacing of S3 i think it is a bit off. Especially regarding the reveal of the Skinner. The problem i personally have with this is, that they should have revealed his identity a bit sooner. If you keep your audience guessing, they develop their own ideas of who it might be based on the characters we already know (nothing wrong about that). But if you keep them in suspense for too long like in S3, the reveal feels a bit disappointing because it throws away all the headcannon the viewers had developed. I think at a certain point you expect your theory to be true. Anyways that is why i was a bit disappointed by the reveal that it was some random guy who just happend to have some money issues with Freebo.

Logan Hamilton

So, on the topic of pushing Dexter more into the range of autism, as a person with the tism it can be concerning seeing some stuff Dexter does and going "oh no, I act like that too" But it's an 2000's tv show so I have to remind that they won't be a 100% accurate and will put together a neurodivergent soup

WormyG

The Dexter book series is completely different. Season 1 is the closest it comes to the books, and even then it's only a lose adaptation. Season 2 and beyond of the show are not at all based on any of the books. Dexter is also just a textbook detached psychopath in the books. Dexter in the pilot has more emotion and attachment than the Dexter in any of the books.

Twiska Brand

Not going lie, I don't understand why you guys hate on Harry's scenes. Not the character, I get that, I mean the scenes. Every time he appears, you don't even bother listening to the dialogue and just sigh and complain that he is still in the show. Also, I was surprised you guys didn't even react to what Dexter was thinking during the wedding. Considering how much you discussed his developing empathy I figured it would have sparked a conversation, especially his vows.

Twiska Brand

Here is my head cannon for Dexter's condition. I'm going with autistic with childhood trauma. He had emotions before the incident but closed them off to deal with the trauma. And it's only now that he is allowing himself to feel again.

Rogal Dorn

ASPD is a spectrum, and circumstances as well as environment even later on can help "soften" compartmentalization-barriers created due to trauma that is early and intense enough to heavily influence neuro-structure. Speaking from cPTSD personal experience, what the brain is capable of even later in life if understood individually is amazing. Takes absurd work though; one needs to actually want and needs to support more "normal" aspects of one's core personality to pierce the veil the endocrine system covers one's understanding of "self" in as a result of divergent and difficult to cope with brain structures and the reality resulting from it.

cyberspacecat

Yeah, that's how I thought about it myself, as he slowly grows a family and works through his trauma it's very possible he's connecting those neurons he failed to develop early on in life. I just agreed that they softened him over time when the book kept him emotionless.

Marc Post Jr

Season 1 is based on Darkly Dreaming Dexter, the novel by Jeff Lindsay. After that the showrunners made it their own so you're not wrong in feeling that Dexter from season 2 onward is a different character.

cyberspacecat

Also throwing my hat in for Season 4 as one of the greats, but I honestly have pretty positive things to say about pretty much every season

CanineCorpse

How I feel about the next couple seasons. 4 is the best, 5 is the last one that is any good.

macattack

20:08 why i think of the rick and morty ep when morty al most get raped but then find out that the he was the king of the town morty was saving. but after rick kill him the town plp find out what he did but let it die so the town don't have to suffer from what he did or how they would look at him after finding out he was mesed up.

Caster the Gravedigger

Get ready for the wild ride that is season 4. Absolutely the best season of the show hands down.

NixTWD

I really think whenever dexter is empathetic he's not actually. He just knows its right and normal to sound that way because Henry trained him too.

Lucas David

You guys would love Barry

Cup.of.Squid

After the full reveal of who the Skinner was, made me realise that had Doakes still been in this season he would have been 100% tilted the whole season. He likely would have known or at least been aware of who the Skinner was from his black ops past. It would have been interesting to see how he responded to the situation and Dexter's reaction to Doakes trying to either kill the Skinner himself or let the law do it's job.

Paul Watson

I think it's been proven over and over that Dexter can feel empathy It's Harry who repeatedly told him he couldn't until Dexter truly couldn't separate himself from what Harry believed he was

Paul Watson

Season 6 is decent and 7 is great 8 Yeah

Nightmareman99

39:00 yeah you hit the nail on the head the books are vastly different with Dexter being much colder. For example Brian dexters brother was never a love interest for Deb and stayed around much longer. Also Doakes wasn’t killed by British bitch but his death was far more brutal dying to a different killer (wow just now realizing how him burning alive is somehow better than what happened to him in the books)

Redblaze27

The show basically stops attempting to follow the books after the first one, and even then they diverted from the book by killing Brian.

Lucas David

I can't wait for Season 4... Please upload soon. I'm so alone...

Lucas David

There could have been a whole series about just Doakes. That's why he's one of the greatest characters ever. He's only around for two seasons, and yet his character left such an impact on the show and pop culture that he's almost as iconic and synonymous with the show as Dexter himself.

Michael Wallace

Dexter in the books was a bigger monster than TV Dexter. If he was like the books the show would not have lasted because of how unlikable he would be.

Mac+oon7583279

I didn’t think Doakes died in the books.
