The whole “Batman is just an insane billionaire who doesn’t pay taxes and beats up poor people” argument/jokes have always been funny to me. In the comics, the Wayne family wealth isn’t the simple corporate greed like Stark is depicted sometimes, they’re a lineage of doctors, innovators, and industrialists whose fortune comes from patented technologies and long-standing enterprises helping the people of Gotham. Bruce Wayne is also consistently written as one of the most philanthropic characters in fiction. A huge portion of his resources go into public works, infrastructure, social programs, and charitable foundations aimed at improving Gotham, while the rest go to being Batman. The stories frequently make the point that money alone can’t fix a city plagued by systemic corruption, organized crime, and supervillains, which is where Batman, as a symbol and crime-fighter, becomes the second part of that effort to end the corruption. And despite the common criticism of beating up poor people, Batman rarely targets ordinary petty criminals. His focus is on regular violent offenders, SAers, murderers, traffickers, organized crime figures, and other serious threats. The “beating up the poor” and "just another billionare" framing tends to ignore how the character is actually written and what kinds of crimes he typically intervenes in.

So a fun little detail that's easy to miss. Way back in the 1989 Batman, Billy Dee Williams (Lando from Star Wars) played Gotham's District Attorney Harvey Dent with the promise that when the time came to do Two-Face as a villain in the movies, he'd return to play him since Harvey Dent becomes Two-Face. But when Batman Forever came along, the studio backed out of their agreement and cast Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face in that film, paying out Billy Dee Williams for their breach of contract. This movie finally righted that wrong after decades by having Williams be the voice for Two-Face. Sure he's not the main villain of the film and only has cameo appearances, but he *finally* got to play the villain he's wanted to play since 1989.

I could have sworn the end credits was supposed to have superman show up saying I heard Gotham was in trouble and came to help, only to see everything is fine. Did I imagine that scene? Also now you need to see Lego Movie 2!!! While not as good as 1, I still like it and the end song lives rent free in my head

Alfred's costume is SUPER accurate to the 60's show. He used to dress up as Batman so Bruce Wayne and "Batman" could be in the same room at the same time, usually whenever someone wondered why they never were. Chef Kiss. Also, Egghead was a villain in the same series with Adam West's Batman, played by the immortal Vincent Price.

I loved this movie so much it's just like the spider-verse movies where they use all the villains and vehicles from past movies tv shows and comic books that people forgot about. I also just noticed that at the hero party Apache Chief was in the background and he's not a hero you see much of anymore.

In a comic run, I think, where Batman died because Joker killed him finally, he quit being a villain because “without Batman, crime doesn’t have a punchline,” or something. I think she’d like Harley Quinn. But I think she should start with something more Digestible like the DC Animated Movie Universe. There is an order to it but still digestible.

yes the british robots are DR who,and IIRC. are actually the biggest threat out of the whole lineup.sauron techincally out powers them, but not in that from. saroun is basically a lesser god/ high angel the bring discord to the song (LOTR is canonically a song being sung the the mayar(i thinnk) writtin and conducted by their supreme god whos name i cant remember, so in his entirety, saruon is beyond the concept of mortailty and physicality, but thats speificallly a weakened avatar. the daleks literally are intergalatic space nazis wearing trash cans armor that have reality warping weapons. MFrs survived the time wars, and while i may not be that well versed in DR who lore, im pretty sure thats the war where the doctor just, unexisted his entire race)

Alright folks, I'm gonna hold y'alls hand very gently when I say it's okay to let go. It's okay to move on. I'm saying this as somebody who had been a Potterhead for almost 20 years, ever since I learned how to read. It's literally my earliest memory of reading a big novel. But if I managed to drop the franchise the same year I spent roughly 1500 dollars on Harry Potter LEGO because I didn't know better back then, so can you. Hell, even all the main actors don't want anything to with her and turned down massive paychecks for cameos in her new show. Let's put it like this: Imagine you are about to be burned at the stake. Somebody comes up to you, looks you straight in the eyes and puts another log on the pyre. "I've wanted a game like this for so long!" "This has been my comfort franchise since I was a child!" "She wasn't directly involved in it!" "Just because the creator does bad things doesn't mean I'm a bad person for engaging with it!" "There's already so much wood, one more won't make a difference!" It doesn't matter what excuse they try to come up with, they still actively chose to add fuel to the fire that's about to kill you and you have every right to be angry and disappointed at them. I wish I was exaggerating with this metaphor, but Rowling is right now, at this very moment, using the money that she's still earning from the franchise to be a global rallying point for transphobes and to bankroll anti trans legislations. Every single time one of those bills gets passed, suicide rates among trans people, especially trans children and teenagers, spike. Rowling knows her funding of those bills is actively killing them, yet she still chooses to do it. You know that now too, what's your choice going to be? And yeah, you can still read the books and watch the movies you already own physically in private without her making any money, but as soon as you recommend it to somebody else, or worse, make a video that several thousand people are going to watch, you're still directly responsible for all the money she's getting from any new fans created that way, who in turn are going to recommend it to their friends etc. And I know this has gotten long, but just as a small addendum about the "whole freaking program to track streamers" - it was like 10~20 lines of code written in a few minutes to look through a streamers recent VODs which people would've otherwise done manually to see if a streamer prioritised views over trans lives, it's really not that big of a deal.

Look, I do care about trans people and their rights, but I will not be judged for what I do with my time and money. I understand that Rowling sucks, and yeah, a lot of that money goes to her, but I like Harry Potter, and I'm not gonna let that stop me. Look at my pfp and name. I'm a Transformers fan. Do you think they're aren't bad people involved with the franchise? Of course there are. Like Simon Furman. He's given the franchise many great things, but he's also sexist, and that has played a role in some of the CRAZY shit he's done with the franchise...But what am I supposed to do? Leave? It's my favorite franchise. Has been since childhood, and I won't let anyone bring me down because they wanna judge me. Same with Harry Potter, or anything else. It's cruel how trans people are treated sometimes, but I can't let myself get soaked up in it. If I allowed myself to be consumed by the sadness I feel for them and everyone else who suffers, then sadness and suffering is all I would know. I'm not saying people shouldn't care. But there's a certain point where you you have to realize that all that pain becomes too much. And no one should have to bare all of that all for the sake not wanting to be judged. Another thing is that Rowling already has so much money to begin with. Boycotting her stuff is honestly pointless because it won't make a dent, so why even bother? It sucks, but that's the way it is. And about that program...yeah, maybe it's not all that complex, but it's complexity isn't what matters. What matters is that the people who designed it and those who used it did so in order to find people who played the game so they could HARASS them. I've seen people be brought to tears over it. All because they just wanted to play...a game. I don't care if people hate Rowling. Willfully going after people like that who have nothing to do with the situation is fucked up. I stand by what I said. That is actually insane behavior. Don't expect an apology, because it's NOT happening. I have no sympathy for people like that, even if we share hatred of Rowling. I find myself perfectly able to enjoy HP without even thinking about Rowling. She's an afterthought. She doesn't matter to me. One day, she'll be gone, but Harry Potter won't be. Harry Potter will be remembered, and Rowling will be left in the dust of history with all her ilk just as they all deserve. And if there's one thing I've learned from being a Transformers fan, it's this..."Freedom is the right of all sentient beings." That doesn't mean you should use that freedom evil, though. You've used your freedom to abandon HP, and that's ok. But the way you're talking to people in this thread comes across to me as though you're saying we're bad people because we haven't. I could be wrong, but if I'm not, then that's fucked up. You may have the freedom to do that, but that doesn't mean you should. What other people do with their money isn't your business, respectfully. You would do the same if the roles were reversed. Now the difference between most problematic writers, directors, artists, etc. like Simon Furman and Rowling is that the majority of them are just a cog in the middle of a giant machine, they get their paycheck and maybe a few small royalties but the big money is earned by the massive companies behind them and distributed to a large amount of people who are constantly swapping in and out. Rowling on the other hand is the sole owner of one of the world's biggest media franchises. Like it or not, but every time you spend money on anything in the franchise some of it goes directly into her pockets, that's just how licensing works. And Rowling in turn directly uses that money to fund anti-trans legislations. Concerning people actively harassing other people for playing the game, I have to agree, that's fucked up. But, and this is a very big but, I was trying to keep up with all the fallout around the release of the game and while I have seen people genuinely harass others, whenever I saw a streamer complain about "harassment" it was in the vast, VAST majority of cases people, often regular viewers, just voicing their disappointment (with varying levels of politeness). And somehow some streamers apparently couldn't handle the fact that people who asked them time and time again to choose trans lives over a single game were disappointed when they chose the game. "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings." Rowling is using that freedom to spend her Harry Potter money on eradicating trans people You're using that freedom to give her money, directly supporting her endeavor. I used my freedom to spend months to try and find nuance in exactly the same situation. But unless you're completely limiting yourself to HP media you already own there is none. Every new purchase, every stream, even every recommendation... right now every road leads to Rowling's pockets, and in those pockets are thousands of our dead trans siblings.
