I think "not treating her like a little kid" Rita just meant that Dexter not to baby-talk to her. She is a child yes. But Dexter is treating a teenage like a tiny toddler. That's my understanding. Idk if Rita registered to who Astor was talking to.

Considering he already threatened to kill her husband and children if she didn’t jump and she clearly cared enough for her family she was willing to give her own life for them. I feel like her trying to climb over and run would not have stopped him from still getting what he wanted
