I cant really blame the high priest, with the info he had access to defeat seemed inevitable, and at the end of the day wanting to protect those you care about more than others is understandable to me.

Her uncle reminds me of the age old question. "Is submission preferable to death?" My heart broke seeing Kivia's face after the deed was done. P.S. This was by far my favorites series this season for anime, I need another season.

DragonPup

Such a peak show, and season 2 was just announced!

Episode 12 answered something i had been pondering for awhile: Why there are no other heroes? There is only 1 member on their group that is old, but all others seem pretty new considering how long these fights have been going. It does not yet answer: If Goddess requires her to remember that hero for this hero to be revived properly, does it mean that if Goddess forgets hero completely that hero can't be resurrected since there is nothing left... but then why Tatsuya is there still and no other old heroes? Does this mean his body survived until Goddesses awakened again to fight against Demon Blight and First Goddess remembered Tatsuya but others did not? I really hope Kivia was in that cell for only 2 days before creepy guy arrived. More days pass and guards might get, bold. For those who don't see this as possibility, remember how she is sentenced in front of people: Coexister, uncle murderer, enemy of humankind, her human right would be taken away in minds of many and these guards who hold prison where you really don't want to be as soldier, its dull job and dangerous, you don't get fame, glory or anything in there. Guards take their frustration and other feelings against prisoners by beating, showing that guards are superior to them and such.

I had such a love/indifferent relaitonship with this anime. It started out so great, but as we approached the midpoint I just... lost interest. But as we approached the end, and as Xylo's relationship developed with Teroritta and Kivia, it reeled me back in. But with the way this season ended, I can't wait until S2; this series went straight to the top of my "must read" list. I knew Kivia was going to become a hero at some point - she just had to, and I just knew that going back to E1. But I NEVER expected it would happen this soon.

This and frieren were undoubtedly my favourite series this season. Also, I feel that if they somehow ever met, Rhyno and the Chaotic Good Barbarian would get along swimmingly!

WillGlacier

I need the next season of this NOW!

"What you don't understand is that it's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees." "You have it backwards, it's better to live on your feet than to die on your knees."

Fenronin (Dorian Dubourg)

I feel like this guy is definitly on our side else why would he not just kill them instead of making them penal heroes

Season 2 already in production.

So I was right in a way. They were saving the people with heroic personalities to be sentenced to be heros.

I think that reveal made Rhynos one of my favorite characters. At least lore wise. I find the moral implications fascinating. It also calls into question a few others things. Each heroes original crime seems to be against the demon lords and faeries. Even Xylo since killing the previous Goddess prevented her from corruption. Which I can only assume was the goal of the trap. Humanity wise Rhynos didn't commit any crime, but to the blight he would be one of the worst criminals. The juxtaposition alone makes him as interesting as he is unnerving.

This series was incredible! I also got goosebumps at the end lol

For those who are interested, Rhyon’s fairy name translated from Irish, puc is a goat and puca is a shape shifting spirit or ghost so he’s the demon lord Shapeshifting Goat.

That whole monologue at the end was so good. Yeah it's exposing a lot of stuff but it works so well. And S2 has been announced!

Imunyr

Feels like whenever Tatsuya's backstory is explored it'll be a lore bomb as well as answer why he's still around, if he perhaps was once such a great hero that the First Goddess still clings onto him. It's pretty messed up to think about it if he was summoned to be a hero only to transition into this sentenced business when he became more of a mindless beast.

Glasses is the night of the second goddess and the second goddess can summon bucks that have knowledge of events that are happening all over the world even if she or her night aren't present. And from boojum, we know that the blight/fairies/demon Lords have some overarching Master that they listen to. So here's my theory. Way back when, whoever's commanding the blight realized that as long as humanity stood United and had the power of the goddesses, they would be able to hold out basically forever. So they decided that they needed to divide and conquer and so they started infiltrating the ranks of humanity, both the regular soldiers and the leadership. This would end up becoming the coexisters and they would get super deep rooted into the leadership and power structures of humanity. And whenever anybody was too effective in fighting either the blight directly or in exposing the coexisters, then the coexisters would make sure that that person would get betrayed and either killed in action or executed for whatever crimes they can pin on said person. Either glasses or one of his predecessors notice this or maybe Reddit in one of the goddesses books. Once he or she becomes aware of this. They realize that the coexisters are already too deeply rooted to oppose them too directly. So instead they come up with a method to save some of the heroic people who are trying to stand up to the blight or expose the coexisters. So they managed to convince all the people and the higher ups that the hero status is a fate worse than death and should be given to the most heinous criminals knowing that The coexisters will be painting the people they deem as threats to them or to the fairies overall as the worst of the worst. So the night of the second goddess and however many predecessors were before him. Have all been slowly saving the best and most valiant people in the fight against the demon Lords. They vet them and use the goddess's knowledge in order to determine who will be most effective in fighting the blight. They save those people and make it so that they can be repeatedly summoned from death in order to give humanity a glimmer of hope in spite of how effective the coexisters have been in making sure humanity is losing the war.

What I heard is that Heroes from other worlds were talking about democracy, liberalism, and secularism and it disrupted the status quo.

Okoga

If I had to guess Tatsuya was probably something akin to what Xylo is to Teo but for the goddess that does the revivals. I also have a feeling he has no idea what the hero system is being used as at this point with how far gone he is, perhaps it was a more noble thing when he was first put into, or my guess, formed it.

CinnfulFantasies

The thing about the coexisters that gets me and that makes me like the concept is that it isn't just selfishness, it's despair too. It isn't as simple as them wanting to up their position and those close to them at the expense of everyone else, it's that they believe they don't have a chance to beat the demons anyway so they're willing to side with them to be spared. It's still fucked, but it's different than if they were just betraying humanity for power outright, it's that added angle of believing humanity is fucked either way and wanting to take the chance to be spared that makes it interesting to me.

Aethergoggles

Plot twist tatsuya's perfectly sound of mind but only speaks/understands japanese and gave up trying to communicate with everyone in this world
