Croupier Bookie

I've been thinking about this series all day!

Great episode, but I don't think SJ actually helped Jacob at all with the murders. She just felt so much guilt when she figured it out she decided to protect Riley and punish herself by pretending she did.

Twiska Brand

You guys really misread this. Jacob claimed she lured the girls. She denied ever doing that. She only admitted to killing her son, but now that we know she lied about that and he is alive she is 100 percent innocent. She never committed any crimes. She blames herself for not seeing what Jacob was doing and is choosing to die so that her son never finds outs his *father* was a serial killer. If she admits he is alive, the kid finds out what his father did.

Twiska Brand

Actually it is stated on the show she always denied knowing about or helping Jacob with the murders of the girls. She only ever admitted about the son which we now know was a lie. So she never pretended to kill those girls.

YEESSS more things during my break lol

a thing to remember the idea she lured the victims with the offer to smoke pot was what he had said. There was nothing really to prove she actually did that and because of her guilt she didn't bother even trying to defend herself. It was more than likely he was trying to drag her down with him.

earthbound_astronaut

This is probably one of my favorite episodes of this show. There are so many that are great, but this episode is just so impactful. I am so glad Alicia and Ant are doing this series.

Alex

Just to clarify, cause you may have missed some details. She didn't actually know anything past the fact that he was bringing girls home to his workshop. She didn't actually lure them and wasn't involved in the murders. It was only once she realised what he was doing later on that she put the anonymous tip in which then got him arrested. Jacob was the one that lied and told the authorities that she lured them back.

slavicandsapphic

I think yall gotta remember that while these episodes are BASED on cases, they won’t really do a 1-1 to the case. So if you think an episode is referencing a case, I wouldn’t use it as what the episode is going to do. More so just a thing of “oh i see where they got the inspiration”

Katz Kreationz

God this episode KILLS me every time 😭😭

SJ is a 100 times better parent than many I have seen in the news. Most parents will say they would die for their kid. But this lady actually followed through. She died knowing she left her child in a safe place. I like to think that she is in heaven right now and her husband is in hell and i am talking Catholic hell

Oklahoma still has Electrocution listed as a method of execution, but it hasn't been used since 1966, according to Google. Oklahoma primarily uses lethal injection. Firing squad is also a listed option.

Lucifer 669

Just so you guys know, Lethal Injection is *not nearly* as "merciful" as prisons and governments claim.

Lucifer 669

Okay, I did not expect to see a Twiska profile pic in 2026.

22:28 This is the second show I've seen where this man played a serial killer.

Adam Lawson

It’s never really proven she knew about the fact that Jacob was killing girls until much later when she sent in an anonymous tip. Jacob himself was the one who claimed she lured girls there for him to kill them and we sorta know his testimony is kinda unreliable since he wanted his wife to be brought down with him

Like I said...they don't always save everyone.

PokéBoyBB

Okay I know Alicia was only paying half-attention cause of her cat. But the whole "The wife lured the girls in for the husband" thing was only something her husband said during his trial, and since she felt responsible she didn't argue against her husband pulling her under the bus with him. It was never stated to be the truth, but Alicia took it as hard fact.

Adrian

Wonderful episode, one of my favorites, but like others pointed out, you very much missed the detail that she never actually lured in the girls (Or at least never confirmed she did) we're only taking her husband, a serial killer, at face value when he says that.

Vectoris

If you want to see more of that actor who plays Jacob, he also plays another character named Charles Hoyt in a show called Rizzoli & Isles. It's a cop drama, so I don't know how "in your wheelhouse" it is, but I really like it.

Baron Salt

I'm not a parent, but I would do everything in my power to make sure that my child never had any knowledge about me and my family about the situation. Because having that weigh on you for your entire life would actually destroy him and it would destroy everything she sacrificed for. Being free of his past is the greatest gift his mother could give him in that situation, as tragic as it may be.

What SJ thought was happening was that he was cheating on her by bringing home girls to his workshop. When she found out they were young and he was killing them, she left the tip that got him arrested. Just wanted to make clear since comments noted that she knew he was bringing girls home, but not much more. She didn't know they were as young as they were and assumed he was just bringing home affair partners.

TheRoguelock

She didn't deny her involvement in the killings, she only admitted to "killing" Riley. We know that she probably had no hand in getting the girls to meet with Jacob, that her knowledge probably ended at knowing he was bringing girls home. Agree with everything else you said, but I think her choosing not to deny her involvement is as much due to guilt as it is being to defend Riley.

Twiska Brand

?? At the start of the episode, the crew said she only admitted to the killing of the son, and then when Gideon said, "You didn't know about her?" when referring to the new body they found, she said, "I never said I did." If she only admitted to the killing of her son, and not the other charges brought against her, then by definition, she denied being involved in the other killings. That is is the whole crux of the episode. If they can prove she didn't kill her son, she doesn't get executed, meaning she wasn't on the hook for the other girls, like Jacob was, as if that was the case, finding the son wouldn't have mattered. I'm not trying to argue, just genuinely don't remember her ever implying she lured those girls. Jacob said she lured those girls and she never confessed to it. So to me that means she denied luring them.

Cody Dennings

13:15 I would also like to point out that it's never just her. He definitely hits the kid/s too.

I completely understand how much she loved her son and why she wanted to sacrifice herself for him, but honestly, I’m surprised by how many people see her decision as something heroic and ideal 😭 She was innocent, and she had the chance to prove her innocence and live, yet she chose to be executed for something she didn’t do. What hurts me the most is that she decided for her son that he would be better off never knowing her or the truth, even though he had every right to know his mother and what really happened. And on top of that, she herself has a right to her own life. Not every sacrifice is noble simply because it’s for someone we love. She wasn’t even in a situation where there was no other choice; she could have cleared her name, faced her past, raised her son, and explained the truth to him without making him carry the guilt of his father. I really wish someone had made her understand that she wasn’t responsible for something she didn’t even know about in the first place. 😞 Sacrifice isn’t always the best thing, especially when it means hurting yourself to that extent. Sometimes the real sacrifice is choosing to live, endure, and face things, rather than disappearing from the life of someone you love. And above all, the idea of someone sacrificing themselves to the point of denying their own right to live really hurts me, especially because in Islam there is a beautiful principle: “Your Lord has a right over you, your own self has a right over you, and your family has a right over you, so give each of them their due.” Loving her son doesn’t mean that her own right to live becomes meaningless.

Quetzalcoatl

It's funny how the entire episode Alicia has it in her mind that SJ lured the girls despite that never actually being said and them even saying, multiple times, that SJ had no idea what he did until the last girl, which is when she got the cops involved
