Remember, European forests are full of unicorns and fairies and gnomes and mystical portals to magic realms. North American forests are full of dangerous predators, skinwalkers, shadow monsters, and wendigos.

Ngl, when they paused to learn the kids' names I noticed that Rich was the only one without a last name and just thought, "Oh that kid is dead as hell."

You say that, but our modern conception of things like fairies and unicorns is deeply skewed by Hollywood. In the old stories they're just as terrifying as the monsters of North American legend. Like, the original Grimm's Fairytales were already watered down versions of folk stories, and they were still basically in the horror genre. That is one thing that does seem to be universal to the human condition. Anywhere you can find a dark forest in the world, the native peoples in the area will have tales of dangerous supernatural beings that lurk inside them. Of course, the rational explanation is simply that we were just as much prey as we were predators for the vast majority of the last 200,000 years of our species' existence. Or, maybe there really is some scary, supernatural shit out there waiting to eat us. I'm agnostic on the issue. I've got German, Cherokee, and Irish in me, and every one of those bloodlines came with their own stories designed to keep children from wandering off at night. Is any of it real? I have no idea, but I'm not going to go out of my way to antagonize them!!

Thing is European forests are relatively safe due to almost all major predators being wiped out centuries ago. North and South American forests still have hundreds of people straight up vanishing from the face of the earth in forests annually.

0:25 The thing we call Pennywise landed on earth a few million years ago. It was delighted when humans first wandered into North America, because our fear was so much deeper and complex than the animals it had been surviving on before it found us. Kinda like the difference between unseasoned and seasoned food. You can survive on raw turnips, but would you ever go back to that after having some 5-star, four-course, lobster and steak dinner? I sure wouldn't. 3:10 I cannot do horror when I'm drunk. I remember getting drunk and trying to show my mom Dead Space when I was 22. I was almost crying like 15 minutes into it and I had to shut it off! lol Same with spicy food... The exact opposite on both when I'm stoned though. 7:40 Of course the white kid runs directly into the forbidden, dangerous place. Why do we do this to ourselves? 13:27 Used to work in the Alzheimer's wing of a nursing home. Sometimes it felt like this. Don't get me wrong, most of them were just sweet old people lost in their memories. But there were a couple I remember that got violent at the drop of a hat. I don't blame them though. No telling what memory they were trapped in when that happened.

56:08 Alicia randomly forgetting Rich's name (her fiancee) be like: "Husband! come here husband!" lmao

The fact this series connects to The Shining & Doctor Sleep along with other stories from Stephen King shows that The Dark Tower series will be a huge step towards expanding his Macroverse of horror & I'm all for it. Just makes sense Dick Hallorann is in this & survived Pennywise. I really want that actor to play him again in hopes a series called "Welcome to the Overlook Hotel" as a prequel to The Shining would be wicked sick!

Vincent Price

15:44 oooooo that aged like milk

Vincent Price

51:08 I'M SO GLAD SHE NOTICED THAT TOO!!
