So happy to see you checking this series out. I can't wait to see you continue this one!

I really liked your point about the anime’s choice to show Fern essentially saying goodbye to Heiter first, and only afterwards revealing that she broke the rock without actually showing the act of doing so like many other shows would. You insightfully mentioned that’s fitting as it focuses on her relationship with Heiter; all she wanted was to show him that she’d developed a skill to support herself so he could rest easy and not worry. In other words, her motivation was purely out of concern for him. It didn’t have to be magic…very cool, brilliant point!!

Frieren is the show where fantasy really feels fantastic. Like many shows or series go “oh you want some epic fights here you go” and they give you some wonderful here and there. Some make you feel through sadness or badassness. Frieren makes you feel through just loveliness, Happiness, sadness, bliss, acceptance, all the emotions… and throws epic stuff on top. It’s like Ghibli… with different Ghibli

Frieren didn't acquire an apprentice; she acquired a mother.

It's funny how you mentioned all the interesting choices made in this anime, particularly because the director for Frieren also directed Bochi the Rock, which as absolutely chalk full of VERY interesting and impactful directing choices, and was absolutely amazing for it.

The thing about the sadness that Frieren evokes is that it feels like one of the best, possibly most wholesome sorts of sadness you can feel. Like, both with Himmel and Hieter, their passing wasn't tragic. They both lived incredibly good, full lives and neither seemed to have any major regrets. The sadness is more about the closing of a chapter of one's life, of passing into a new portion of time and realizing that you can't go back to that. It's more of a nostalgic, light yet still present blanket of quasi-melancholy as opposed to a deep, tragic sorrow. It's hard to explain, but it's the sort of sad that also brings a small smile to your face even if there are also tears.

I'm sorry, but when you mentioned that maybe Fern could choose the next adventure for spending so much time on this one, all I could think was 'She wants to go to Boob World!'

FMA and The Boys make us tense and have us crying. And now we got this shit making our hearts overflowin. Bruh, this is so beautiful wth <3

The magic system thus far seems similar but different to Cantrips from D&D. Nothing super extravagant or crazy but every spell has some kind of purpose aside from kill thing. Like the flowers, absolutely no destruction just creation.

Wild that the statue part of this episode takes place 76 years after Himmel and the party defeated the Demon King. Its little wonder people don't remember or take care of the statue.

I wonder if you've seen Ancient Magus Bride? I feel like it's the most similar in terms of how it treats death and how beautiful they portray things, especially the first season and the OVAs
