Caroline

A great little church! I will be looking out for herringbone designs now, when I visit churches. How common are they Dan? I don't remember ever seeing that before. I wish I could have you as a guide when I visit churches, I am sure I miss things!

Kat Stelzner

Wonderful Thank you for the link to more details of this lovely church 😻

The Bakery Bears

Herringbone work is very rare in churches. It’s normally been plastered over or ‘improved’ upon over the years. I’ve only seen it once before. Churches are my favourite thing to explore!

Carol Harrison

Loved this. I adore old Churches. Although I live on Teesside now, I am originally from Chessington, in Surrey. There is a beautiful little Church there where my Parents, Grandparents and other relatives were laid to rest and my first marriage was there. It is not as old as this one, but I believe it is early Twelfth Century. http://www.stmaryschessington.org/about-us/history/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Mary_the_Virgin%27s_church,_Chessington#:~:text=6%20External%20links-,History,and%20re%2Dopened%20in%201854. Thank you for sharing this and I hope I can visit next year for myself 💕

Diana Lovatt

Now that was a really sweet little church.

Susan Coxon

That was a beautiful little church! I do love The Sussex Carol, was that you singing Dan?

Carin Zwaneveld

Beautiful little church. Loved the heringbone wall. Never seen that before. Oh Dan, when you are sitting in the car and tell the story about your mom and her sleigh ride. That face of yours 😂😂

Gwen Murillo

Beautiful church. I thought it was much bigger inside than it looked on the outside. Thank you Dan! That was a real treat.

Cheryl Mendez

Goodness I can’t imagine living in a place where there are so many castles, churches and ruins so close that you can visit any time you want! So beautiful!!

Four Winds Powered Paragliding PPG

Love the original herringbone! Sad that it gets “improved”. When I lived in Northamptonshire in Chelveston, there was a lovely little church. We went to a ceremony there once and I remember it being very old and very COLD inside. This was 20 years ago. Maybe one day you’ll make it there and I could see it again! Shannon from Georgia, USA

The Bakery Bears

Hi Shannon! The 'improvements' were often made not long at all after it was originally constructed. It's fascinating to think what we see as beautiful and historic was once considered 'run of the mill'. It's why I love churches so much, so many layers to peel back and stories to discover. They are cold inside when they're empty! Best wishes to you, Dan

Laura Gorton

What a beautiful place - thank you, Dan. I enjoy your enthusiasm just as much as the places you show us (and I enjoy those a great deal).

Theresa Savaria

Thank you Dan for taking us this wonderful adventure

7_Cherubs

Thank you, Dan, for all your work to bring us back in history to the castles built for kings and queens and the churches built by and for the common citizens! I love your calm voice mixed with your enthusiasm for the subject. The All Saints church, though small, is so full of the beautiful workmanship and details of the past. Kay is so sweet and such a great creator and teacher!! Her baking, knit designs and lessons are all excellent!!From here in little Stony Creek, CT, I love every podcast you both do, together and individually. Thank you for all your creativity and efforts to bring your podcasts to us! Bless you both!

Lindsey-Brooke

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful church! I’ve never seen herringbone stonework - remarkable in the craftsmanship. I love how we heard your young voice singing as you entered a church that has been significant in the lives of so many generations.

Michele Christman

I love seeing these churches through your eyes. We have nothing that old in the States.

Doreen MacLauchlan

A lovely church visit. But I have a request: please don’t play music while you are speaking. As a person with hearing loss, I can tell you that makes it very difficult, even with hearing aids and closed captions. Thank you for all your hard work.

Jen Gunston

So funny looking at Dan bob down to walk in the door, built for the shorter people of yesteryear!

Brenda Paulsel

I’m curious to know if there was a pipe organ? I can just imagine how amazing the music would sound with a pipe organ and carolers!

Gerrie C

Oh I do love the church visits... This one is beautiful. ✨

Randi Anderson

Such a serene and beautiful church - and the stained glass windows were superb! Thank you for bringing this to us.

Denise Crawford

Another beautiful church tour. I love how you included your choir solo as you entered the church. I love that personal connection for you.

Wanda Olson

Spectacular church with so much history….thank you

Jules Hargreaves

Such a lovely church, thank you for taking us with you.

Deborah Swift

I’d heard that it was once common to find an eagle near where the lector would stand, but this is the first I’ve *seen* one in a real church. Thank you for sharing that wonderful place, especially the old, original portions, with us!
