Ross Townsend

"Too many kitchens in the cook" should be the official summary of this season.

Hey. Bridge Crew here. Wasn't yet joined when you had that meeting. I could answer directly, but spoilers. Here's the thing I'd ask you to keep in mind as we move forward on this one, and remember that 'this episode was better than the last'. The Expanse is nine books, roughly split between three trilogies with time gaps in between each of them. These novels were adapted by the original author to fit the Sci Fi series. And Season Four jumps to the second 'trilogy' in the books, covering S4-6. The last three books have not yet been adapted, and they were like 50 years in advance for a time jump from the first six books, so the TV series going 6 seasons works better than fans might want to admit. I bring this up as the main point -- remember the pacing of Season 1? Remember how frustrated you were because fans kept telling you over and over despite "no spoilers" how you just had to hold on for the first four or five episodes, and then after that it takes off"? So I'm NOT saying that the magic of Season One duplicates perfectly in Season Four. What I am saying is that "James S.A. Corey" as an author takes the first half of the first book in each "trilogy" for the Expanse to lay down tracks that only begin to inspire you to care AFTER you get to the end of the book. It's kind of the author's "thing". If slow boil pisses you off as a style, don't read the novels. Season 4 has its own karma. And there are fans who would not argue with you, or speak up, just because Season 4 doesn't sparkle with quite the same brilliance as Season One did, but somehow, that sense of everything fraying around the edges and just how fragile progress of any kind actually ends up being, out in the Expanse, is sort of the flavor of Books 4 - 6. I would only say, if you can be patient just a little bit longer, you should start getting the generous portions of plot advancement, character development, and yes, world building explanations to certain things at least, in what gets served up each episode more and more. Whether the dishes are ultimately seasoned to your preferences... I don't think any Bridge Crew would presume to even try and guess, honestly. LOL. Your channel is known for being real true to your own personal opinions and not putting lipstick on pigs, so like, do you and your reactions will be entertaining either way for us all, whether we loved the rest of the show or not. Happy hunting.

Target Audience

Thanks! We finished the season yesterday, the reactions will be posted over the next couple of weeks

Worf and Riker Ride Again

Do you know what is really annoying? Trying to sync the fucking Prime TV app to anything, there’s seemingly no option to pause playback during the into, pressing anything skips the intro. Really need to get seasons 4-6 on BluRay…

Worf and Riker Ride Again

Don’t worry it does pick up significantly towards the end of this season, though can’t remember which episode. I do like season 4 a lot mor3 than you two but if I’m honest couldn’t remember at all what happened towards the first half which kind of says something.

Well said, Adam. Reading their reply to you, I will say that I told my wife they were going to struggle with season 4. I did also as someone who has not read the books. I also said to her that I hope The Bridge Crew drags them kicking and screaming into seasons 5 and 6. Thank you so much for the post in support of continuing this journey. I would also join you in thanking Alex and Josh for their candor. It is what makes this channel so enjoyable. Cheers, gents.

Feel you on season 4, blah. Season 5 has some of my favorite moments of the series. Good TV? Amazing writing, characters, and stories? Mr. Robot, Dark, Sopranos, The Wire, Westworld. Dark would hook you guys good....pure chaos.

LoTeq

This Season is a bit of a plateau for me, if not a dip. The show picks back up again in the remaining seasons. Same thing with the books.

Skye Maidstone

Mr Robot is amazing apart from a small dip in season 2. Season 4 is incredible.

Skye Maidstone

Im not keen on season 4 at all but probably because I don't sympathise with the belters at all and Naomi gets steadily more irritated. Drummer and Ashford are awesome though.

penoyer79

alex has seen Sopranos. The Wire is good, but i honestly dont think they'd be into it. im pretty happy with X-files and DS9 with voyager on the way. i'd like to see them dive into more movies. i can tell there's a lot of great stuff they haven't seen - especially 70's-90's

Jason Dokos

The Wire is massively overrated/over-hyped IMO

Jason Dokos

I've found pressing back will hold it at the edge (on a Comcast Xumo Box anyway) and then I can hit play

Jason Dokos

Looking forward to seeing if opinions shift by the end. As I've mentioned before (probably here?). Season 5 is my personal favorite.

Jason Dokos

Kinda true, lol. Especially after reading the book a few months ago. It ONLY takes place on Ilus. No Mars, Earth or Belt happenings at all until a very short epilogue.

Jason Dokos

I found that by accident after your very problems, lol

Kosh Naranek

Definitely has my favorite episode. I will forego any further comment to avoid any potential spoilers

Ross Townsend

Not criticism. Actual agreement. I could imagine hearing one of my favourite phrases in those writers rooms: 'I can't brain today. I have the dumb."

Tim Nikiforovs

When Lucia tried to tear her husband down saying "someone needed to be strong", I really wanted him to fire back with "no, someone needed to be smart, because look where being stupid got us".

tbrose83

Would love to see them watch Westworld, at least season 1, although I am one of the few that liked the entire run.

Ja Dav

If they find Marco Inaros insufferable here, they aren't likely to enjoy Seasons 5 and 6 where he's ten times worse and we see ten times more of him. I'm guessing that's why this season seems to be their last.

Scott in Scotland

So I agree totally on the annoying revelation that Lucia didn't mean to kill anyone. No idea why this is as in the book her character means it. I fear it is a weird decision related to them gender swapping the character for TV (a dad guy in the book). If you believe in the character enough that gender swapping won't be a problem that's fine with me, but then don't massively change their motivation. That character's grey areas and redemption arc is much better than what we get here. Also maybe some of this would land more if the characters had aged right. Most characters in this (including the Roci crew) should be in their 50s. Even with it being space 50s let's say mid 40s actors. All these youngsters in their 20s and thirties don't have the Heft. It's why Burn Gorman is great here. He's believable old and gruff but nobody balances that from the other sides. Too often the Amazon Expanse casts for pretty. When it doesn't it's great.

Matthew Langley

I mean not the strongest episodes but god you guys are even more insufferable than these shows in this episode. You're barely into a scene and before it's even close to ending you're talking over and trash talking it. I mean I'm used to you guys talking over important things all the time at this point, but god, I get it you want to shit talk the show. Maybe chill out just a little lol. Then when a character decides to try and kill themselves you literally laugh. I've seen this season multiple times and watching you guys makes it FAR worse than it really is even if it's not the strongest.

Janel

I would love to see them react to Mr Robot!
