The stuff with O'Brien and the Cardassian woman was a surprising turn, although it came close to veering into "predatory alien female trope" territory. FYI: Watching over here instead of on Youtube, as they've pissed me off with you guys' channel for the final time.

The interesting thing that DS9 brings to the table is the fact that, as far as the in-universe explaination goes, the Bajoran gods *are* real. We've met them and the Bajorans- through the Orbs- have a means by which they can actually commune with them. Because the wormhole aliens experience time non-linearly it means that any prophesy *must* be considered, but due to the cryptic nature of the prophets will always be open to interpretation. The real character interest comes from Sisko and his position as a- at most- agnostic Starfleet officer and how he has to deal with being a genuine religious icon within Bajoran culture.

As would Riker, and Paris... each TREK series has to have ONE. For DS9 it's usually Bashir. I wonder if at any point during the drafting of this episode, Julian was actually the one who was the Cardassian woman's target and someone said, "Hey, why not INSTEAD...?"
