I'm a sucker for prophecy stories, and I enjoy the idea of the struggle between free will and destiny, particularly where Sisko is concerned, since he's also choosing between Starfleet and the Bajoran faith. But even taking all of that into account, I think there are better ways to do it. I actually enjoyed seeing the interactions between Chief and the Cardassians more than the prophecy side of the story.

It had great character moments

TinMan_7B9

Confined Crawlspace, Close Contact, Clingy Cute Cardassian Combatively Courting Chief? Careful! Cannot Condone Cheating! Comm-relay & Comet Catastrophe? Classic Category C.

Man of Mini Tall Ants

Fun thought: Do you suppose the ice comet from the opening is the same comet referred to in Destiny?

Man of Mini Tall Ants

Don’t agree with the grade C, but will applaud the alliteration. Well done.

As an atheist I never had a problem with the prophets and their prophecy. They are clearly scientifically real and the timey wimey nature of them, and need to toss their orbs about, makes predictions via foreshadowing visions likely. I actually see them as the ultimate atheistic take down of religion. So even in a situation where the gods are real all the stuff the religion comes up with like silly hats, earrings, moral judgements and prayer are shown to be totally empty as the wormhole aliens don't seem to have noticed them. B Tier for the poking fun at priests and the chief's accidental Cardassirizz.

Oh and if there was ever a show that leaned into ripping on religion and its hats it's... Red Dwarf

Ain't no atheists in fox-holes.

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

Silly hats are the core tenet of any religion. Without a silly hat...... you may as well not have a religion at all Hey! I think I'm onto something here.....💡

One of my favorite S3 episodes. Gave it an A. Liked the continuity and politics. The character dynamics were great. Not a fan of real religion but I'm a big fan of fictional religions and what they do for worldbuilding.

Crewman #6

Thorough B tier. A level of just fine - but paints in more details of the characters and world.

I think why I like this episode is not that Star Trek wants us on board with the emissary plot. It’s that Sisko finally is. I don’t think I cared before he did. A
