Really loving these past few pages, it’s shows how different there two old wolves are. One probably spent most of his life amongst the herd traveling and learning while the other spent his life with his pack. Their ideologies over lap in some places but are different in the end

Grey

Great last line on Rake!

Rachel

I like this old wolf a lot

Amethysmus

"And what do we say to the god of death? Not today!"

Felidae

Impressive existentialism

Morpheus

The little grin the the lower right of panel 2!!!!!!!

Is there an estimate as to how many generations the Zenith has existed?

Sheatherius

Are they both blind or is the pale pupil just used to indicate that they're old? I recall the grey mothers have a similar appearance.

Felidae

Cataracts, I believe

Hm. My thinking was more Ramble is the type of guy who is trying to be conciliatory in the face of his dad being a jerk-- he tries to get along with everyone and for his efforts, he also gets walked over by everyone. With Swift as "heir apparent" to lead the pack, Gristle being hard-headed, and Seral probably a bully, I think he grew up submissive. Rake is also an older, chill wolf who is being nice, which I think Ramble would respond really positively to. His lashing out at Hap was what he could muster in the moment out of frustration, but he lacks the direction to take it further-- he doesn't have a 'game plan' other than get along to go along. What else is going to do, right? I think he's comfortable getting a little snarly around Hap because she reminds him of his sister, a (real or imagined) dynamic he embraces because it's familiar. If you go beyond the last few days, his family has been held together by shoestrings his whole life; his aunt, mother, and both sisters and their mates are gone. Gristle is the only family that hasn't actually left him, and he still thinks Seral is coming back. I imagine he's looking forward to just hiding in his cousin's shadow. His line "Our songs might have been lost..." was meant to be directed more at his dad, like "hey, can you behave please." Originally, it read "Our songs might have been lost if we had to go another winter alone. Right, dad?" Curious, does that added "right, dad" changes your read of it/Ramble? And, I do totally understand where you are coming from. I don't hate the idea of him having a bit more pushback, but I honestly don't know how much pushback he has in him. He has nothing to "push" for right now. Swift is long gone, as far as he knows. He's where he chose to be, just like Gristle.

So then at least a century in terms of wolf time I guess.

this was an unexpected level of philosophy to come up on my feed!
