I think it’s a tad naive to expect departing players to “leave everything on the park” for a league title run in. Lundstrum has reportedly signed a lucrative 3 year deal. There are a considerable number of players who will probably be thinking they are in the final few games for us. Can we reasonably expect them to burst a gut for the team with their futures very much unknown. This is Ross Wilson’s legacy.

Morning Allan. I agree they should be busting a gut. Have we seen much evidence of that over the past 2 months? In 2008 we had a squad of largely hard working players of limited talent. We had an outstanding manager. That squad got to a European final by hard work and a largely overlooked fact that we had a real sizeable core of lads who were actually Rangers fans. That is not the case at the moment. Unfortunately. 2 Scots in yesterday’s 20 man squad.

Its the balance over those going and giving their all. If not is the back up better ? Yilmaz us probably and Raskin it appears not.....so we stick with Lunny ? I'm torn 😫

Enjoyed the discussion gents. Can’t believe that elements of the support still can’t just take the qualified comments off of Dessers contribution this year, lots of folk went early on him now feel that any praise has to be tempered with a negative. The accepted wisdom that he isnt good when he has time to think isnt borne out by his actual finishing where he is quite happy to chop back or round a keeper, it’s not all instinctive hits. Much like Colak its like people decided he can only do one thing and now just stick to it. The boy is probably as good as we have had since coming back up, and the reality is not many main strikers out with the top leagues will get you 20+ we need to recalibrate where we are and what you get for £3-£5m these days. Perhaps though it’s part of the wider need we seem to have as a support for every player to be an angel or a demon. We dont buy top talent any more, our players are either could be’s, have been’s or if we can get them X type signings and maybe we just need to accept that. Cantwell for example seems (like Goldson was until recently) someone who can’t be criticised as he has a bit of flair. Im not his biggest fan but I am more than happy to say in a team of bland he has played pretty well the last few weeks however he has also had spells where he has been anonymous or caught up in nonsense. He isnt the wonder player, for me anyway, folks make out but he does have talent, if he was able to summon that talent at will more often he would still be down south but we seem to ignore that this has very much been his career to date, full of promise but too often he fails to fulfil it. For me the whole squad is like that, guys who have done bits, guys who have had spells, guys who can produce for parts of a game but not 90, people who are sometimes 7 but sometimes 2 on the ratings. It’s just where we are and the constant up and down with players, over hype and under hype isnt helping us be critical in trying to build a team. Nobody should seriously be begging any of the guys touted to leave to stay, Roofe, Balogoun, Jack, Goldson, Tav, Lundstrum, Butland, Borna, Wright, Matondo, Yilmaz, Cantwell, basically any of them. IF we can upgrade, upgrade. IF we can make profit or cut a loss, do it and give Clement money to build something different as this current squad, team and tactics are dire. We are in real danger of starting to dwindle as a club the trophy haul is poor for over a decade, bar the odd occasion and the Euro adventures we dont entertain to the level our investment, finances and stature promises. If we dont do something dramatic the next generation of fans will find other entertainment and wont see the team in the way the current older generations view it. We need to improve by buying local talent for me, by coaching better and getting back to being fitter and hungrier than our opponents. We have the budget and facilities can we all honestly say we are getting value ? Of course if a Cantwell assisted Dessers hat trick in the next OF game secures us a treble this year then it might still turn out ok.

Praising the dud Dessers IS a sign of our fans' acceptance of our "dwindling as a club". If you and, more worryingly, our manager, actually believe that Dessers should be our first choice striker next season we are doomed! Quote all the stats you like, this guy can't play football and never knows when to shoot. Any bog standard striker in our league would have scored at least 30 goals by now, in a team with our standard of player. Can't believe that there are Gers fans( a tiny, tiny minority) who won't accept the truth about Dessers.

Your truth Bob and one that’s not borne out by facts. The guy isn’t a phenomenal player by any stretch but neither is he a dud regardless of how much you clearly want it to be true. It’s ok you don’t like him or he isn’t your style of striker but he just isn’t even half as bad as your making out. Very few strikers score 30 in the bargain bin we shop in, the idea we create lots of chances isn’t borne out either by our XG or any other measure including the eye if you don’t like the truth of stats. Our play is laboured and features a lot of aimless balls into the box, including set pieces at which we are garbage. I, for my own part, can’t believe people continue to berate one of the few players we have actually making a contribution while others making far less impact seem to get off with a pass but sadly for both of us it is a reality. The last desperate stand is to ignore stats and pretend they don’t matter, particularly when it comes to goal scorers, you contribute and have numbers or you don’t. Nobody signs a striker based on pass completion or hair style you sign them on straight contributions, pens, goals and assists that’s it. Dessers has the best goal to minutes ratio in the SPFL of the top 10 strikers, if your looking for reasons to qualify that, degrade it or demean it your just fighting facts with emotion. I didn’t suggest for a second he should be first choice, but if a 30 goal a year man was easy to find I’m pretty sure we would have had one in by now ? There are certainly many more I would chase out quicker than Dessers and if we only intend to spend another £4m I suspect we will get similar quality or at least another incomplete striker. Folk were raving about Silva who to my mind has done little but come up here and act the prima donna when hard graft would have served him better, a guy who some scoffed when you suggested he might be the latest in the long line of failed expensive loans with sparkly price tags in their past. We chased Colak because he wasn’t Ally McCoist reborn and seemed to have learned little. Ironically the only guy close to Dessers in terms of return from minutes per goal is Shankland who apparently isn’t worth the price we paid for Dessers, hard to really square our expectations vs reality as a fan base. The good thing is Bob, we aren’t doomed as I’m not in charge, Dessers will likely be hounded out and we can start the experiment again. Meantime I’m a fan of the big guy and have been for some time. I like honest hard workers even if they are a bit lighter in talent than others. I would always have a guy who try’s hard than one who thinks they can coast on talent. I don’t really mind if others disagree, I don’t like loads of other players some seem to love, it’s ok.

Glad James pointed out the importance of Diamonde in the Dessers goal. One of the main reasons we look slow and laboured with the ball is the contiual passing to feet instead of to space. Diamonde puts the ball where the receiver should be arriving - not where he is standing. Would love to see a team full of players who do this.
