Simon is joined by James as they discuss the signing of Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane.

They also discuss the continued pursuit of Kenny McLean, as well as a detailed summary of the players signed so far.

Expectations of the window so far and to come are discussed, and James brings us a round up of some of the big European transfers so far this summer.

What's the best point of contact to ask a question and /or make a recommendation for a pod?

I suspect the worry in the fanbase over the signings is that this window is following a similar pattern to the previous windows - most of which turned out poorly. Good start, bringing a bit of positivity, followed by a long period of tumbleweed as targets are touted and nothing transpires, note the emergence of various high profile misses from previous seasons (i.e. Ivan Toney) … and then we have a frantic period of panic and sub optimal buying as the CL qualifiers hove into view …

Agree with Chris above. James and Simon talk about “the big signings” to come; is there the possibility no such signings arrive and we have a squad full of players either “settling in” and leftovers from the last few seasons? Not really wanting to be a gloom and doom merchant, but the optimism of the early, young signings seems to have drifted into a void with Kenny McLean the touted option to fill it. Not encouraging.

The manager has placed great emphasis on the importance of pre season for conditioning players for how he wants to play, so it has to be a concern that none of the bigger moves have happened before the tour. It seems like the club is constantly creating impossible tasks for him. There’s time yet, but it’s not a great summer so for the chairman so far.

Club will take flak for that and rightly so. They are letting the manager down

Alan Weir

I just hope these “bigger moves” materialise, Angus; I have my doubts.

Angus Mackay

I think they have to, Alan. If they don’t I can’t see the board seeing out the season.

Great pod as always, good to hear James views. I have to say though I don’t think the fan base is calibrated in terms of our place in football or the signings, I would be very suprised if we encouraged these new hot properties away from clubs like Milan without telling them they will play. We are simultaneously desperate for youth and freshness but we don’t think 19 year olds are starters ? Can’t see it myself these signings are all here to play and I personally would welcome it. Going back to guys like Davies isn’t the answer in my own opinion. I don’t think there are any big signings coming and I think guys like McLean are about as big as it will get in terms of profile or fee. We may get another academy starlet on loan but I don’t think from the outside we are as attractive a club as we think from within. If we hadn’t managed an anomaly we would be 10+ years without a league title and no real track record of developing guys. This season we are do desperate for success any player coming in will be under tremendous pressure and not sure it’s the environment to come into if you have other options. I actually don’t mind we are going young. I would still buy Shankland to be fair but the profile so far IS what we need as starters to bring the energy up. I think this is exactly the window we can afford and I will be delighted to be proven wrong. As a side note it defies logic to me we are looking to empty Dessers while a host of other top leagues want him, there’s a lesson in there and we seem to think we are winning from this, not convinced. I take on board the age element that David mentioned and diminishing returns that is all fair but by the same token if your paying the same in terms of fee and wage for a new punt who might or might not deliver I’m not sure you don’t just take what you have for proven goals. The argument for brining in McLean applies in the same vein, you’re getting quality now at a price but it’s not for long term sell on. Sometimes what you get now matters too. Enjoyed the listen but fear there’s disappointment for some if bigger things to come is the mantra.

Pedro

Good pod guys. Would look at Cortez deal more optimistically. We had him but as he was injured after a handful of games we didn't really have him for the duration. So definitely a bonus to get in with obligation to buy. Agree on other options. McLean would pay iro £1M not multiples of millions. Also sounds like squad are in Eindhoven which is in the Netherlands but not in Holland
