In this episode, Andy asks Iain and Kev to review 1980's action movie stars from the big screen. Whether they be all-American heroes, cult heroes, or anti-heroes, these guys brought immense escapism and joy to those of a certain vintage.

The challenge, of course, was picking just four.

As a big action fan growing up for me Arnie the obvious 1, Stallone as well. I would have my hero Van Damme and probably Jackie Chan. 4th 1 was difficult though. Haven't listened to the episode yet though

Pondo Sinatra

Great listen, guys, however, Michael J Fox - Action Hero?!? 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

John Smith

Arnold, Sly, Mel, Eddie

Derek Murray

Ruined my Friday night with Michael J fox patter 🤣 1. Stallone - in cobra he was the dogs !! 2. Arnie - running man or commando 3. Gibson - Weapon 1 & 2 4. Chuck - all missing in action films. These were proper action movies stars - exactly what we wanted then and possibly still do now … Bruce Lee … 80s… naw Enjoyed the trip down memory lane despite the aforementioned Fox nonsense 😘

Craig Fryatt

Well I listened to this thinking it would be Planet Hollywood +1 However in retrospect it should be Arnie, Sly, Ford and Gibson Eastwood or even Roger Moore could be notable entries given the Bond films and Ffolkes. Michael J Fox absolutely no way, before we get started on Bruce Lee. How an actor who passed in 1973 and released only one movie in 1981 (obviously posthumously) be even mentioned as an 80’s Mount Rushmore is just silly.

Jason McMillan

Great show guys. My own picks would be: Stallone Arnie Kurt Russell (Backdraft, Tombstone and Stargate were also great films in the 90s). Bruce Willis.

Craig Kerr

Good lists guys. Iain as a sci-fi fan, Twelve Monkeys with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt was a phenomenal movie.

I get your point about how famous Arnie is but in general it’s a very Western viewpoint to say someone mega famous in the West is “known to every person around the globe”; trust me, there are large, large populations of people in parts of Asia who have never heard of Arnie or Messi or LeBron James or Taylor Swift etc etc. I’ve been to a good few of them

Craig McWhinnie

Arnold is the greatest action movie star of all time, fully recommend the 3 part Netflix documentary if not seen

Craig McWhinnie

Am sorry but Back To The Future is not an action movie 😂 its also very overrated

An 80’s Action Movie Star Mount Rushmore without Stallone? I’m out

Moody Marco

When I seen the title of the pod I actually thought to myself “bit of a daft topic for a Mount Rushmore because it’s just Arnie, Stallone & Willis as givens + one other”

Craig McWhinnie

Spookily the Friends episode with Bruce is on comedy central right now

Samuel Campbell

Stallone has to be on there. How is Bruce Lee getting a mention as an 80s action star though? For me Stallone, Arnie and Bruce Willis are certs. Then it's between Harrison Ford and Kurt Russell although I'd say Van Damme could be on with a shout

LD

It wasn't Snake Plisskins eye patch and jacket that got me watching, it was where the tattoo ended

Douglas Innes

1 Arnie 2 Stallone 3 Bruce Willis 4 Tom Cruise Given that sylvester Stallone like Arnold Schwarzenegger both gets theor names shortened surely alludes to their " greatness "

Andy Barnett

Admittedly my recollection of Bruce Lee was in the 80’e growing up and watching his movies - which by this time had elevated his fame. But of course, he is a 60’s and 70’s movie star. Just wanted to get his name mentioned.

Great pod guys, but c'mon, if we're gonna choose someone who only did one action movie in the 80s, let it be Sigourney Weaver. If you did 1987-1992 (maybe to 1994), you'd have some bangers in there. Peak Arnie, Willis, Russell, Cruise, Gibson, Van Damme, Seagal, Chan, Chuck. Alas, would be Arnie, Stallone, Harrison Ford, and Eddie Murphy for me.

Simon

Stallone was a bigger star in 80s than Arnie and that is just a fact.

Simon

Was this about 80s films or not?

Paul Kerr

Arnie Stallone Ford Van Damme If this is purely 80s action movies. Ford had 6 absolute bangers that are all classics today. The Blade Runner movies are visual perfection and he was Han and Indy ffs. Empire was 1980 Last Crusade 89. Some run. Arnie picks himself. Predator is a perfect action movie. The whole movie is one liners from every character and it still looks fantastic now it's been remastered for uhd. Stallone again iconic he should be on there. First Blood is a great performance from him. I went Van Damme for number 4. for Kickboxer Bloodsport and Cyborg every youmg lad had seen these a few times in the 80s, lower budget releases that you didn't need to wait yonks to get on VHS. Longevity and Cruise definitely comes into it with Willis.

Kirk Guthrie

Harrison Ford and Jackie Chan were pretty much my childhood, they'd definitely be on my mount. I still very fondly remember when my mom would be out for the evening and my dad taking my bro and I to the blockbuster to look for any Jackie Chan films we hadn't yet seen

william hendrie

Ford Stallone Arnie Willis Really tough call between Willis,Murphy and Gibson well chuffed so many people saying Ford, great memories of a wee boy with a Johnny Bravo size bowl of Frosties in front of the TV watching video of Raiders of the lost Ark, every Saturday morning started the same
