Please assure me everything is going to be ok? What a fucking mess we find ourselves in. This is all down to our board. From a position of strength, they have completely ballsed it up. Wilson & Beale given free reign of our transfer kitty has set us back years. I don’t envy Koppen & Clement trying to fix this bin fire.

KennyY

We desperately need a 10

George Higgins

I thought played the position well tonight. I’d play him there until we get a proper 10 in.

Simon H&H

I genuinely think we don’t seem capable of playing that role anymore. I’d go with a midfield 3. We are so wide open and overrun in that area just playing the two.

Brian Rae

9 days until we play Hearts and We're not winning that with what we currently have. Anything less that 2 new CBs, 2 CMs, 2 wingers and a striker and we will struggle this season. The manager then needs to integrate them into his way of thinking (whatever that is). A lot of these players look like they've chucked it, fit or not, the captain was a fucking disgrace tonight and the Cantwell news suggests there may be problems behind the scenes. It's probably for the best to adjust our expectations and put this season down to yet another transitional season with anything positive being a bonus. Years of mismanagement from the top has put us here and Ross Wilson has done just as much damage as the SPIVS ever did. The contracts that little prick has lumbered us with is criminal. We all wanted a clear out but I'm sure most of us didn't expect it to happen when the competitive fixtures are about the start. Shambles.

Alan Stewart

I’d rather we played with a strong 3 in MF. This 10 ain’t working. We are constantly outnumbered in MF against the better teams.

Neil Thomson

Good analysis, Laura. Trying to remain positive but will take some fortitude to get through these first few weeks and months until the squad is hopefully overhauled.

Spoon

Have to say I will be glad when Dessers moves on as the hot takes on how his goals are all gash and meaningless is wearing. Danillo did the proverbial square root but gets a load of slack after a season where he was injured and contributing nowt, the boy has cost us a fortune in fee and wages and is yet to do anything yet the amount of hope pinned on him is mental. Other teams will get far more out of our whipping boys by using them properly, putting them in a framework and giving them a chance, the desperation to slate guys is incredible at times. That being said…..enjoyed the pod 👍🏻

Angus Mackay

It’s a massive reset for the club and the manager has a huge job in terms of building a new team. We’re going to have to be patient this autumn - we have no choice. I didn’t think Lowry really did himself any favours tonight and I’m not convinced at all that Mackinnon can make it with us. I thought Ridvan looked good and Rice was bright when he came on. The old guard that are moving on looked like themselves, thats stopped being a surprise a while ago. One thing for sure is that we need someone in the middle to take charge. The switch off, after everything they’ve cost is, was awful.

Alan Stewart

It’s as obvious as the nose on your face. Drop this 10 shite and go back to a strong 3.

Elaine Campbell

I'm actually conaidering emigrating at this stage. This close to the start of the season, that was just terrifying

Angus Mackay

We’re half way through a clear out and still haven’t been able to bring in our key new players because of the slow market. It was always going to look bad at this stage. We’re not going to be as ready as we would like for the start of the season, so the autumn is going to require patience. It is a big mess to sort out, but I believe we’re doing the right things to sort it.

Alan Stewart

Patience is one thing we have plenty of experience of Angus. I pray you are correct. For me, this is a bigger rebuild than Gerrard faced. I pray we can get these high earners off the books and completely rebuild. Time will tell.

Alan Stewart

We follow on mate. Let’s see what transpires between now and 1st September. If we have limited funds, which appears to be the case, rebuild the spine. A strong CH, CDM & striker would make a massive difference. Let’s see what happens.

Angus Mackay

I got half way through this, but I’m afraid I’m done. Absolutely brutal listening. No real recognition of the train wreck the manager inherited or the fact that he was clearly using tonight to judge what the young players offered. In the case of Mackinnon and Lowry, that was not a lot that could be useful. Matondo, Dessers anv Tav, who we all know need to go were like three men down. What on earth is the manager meant to do until the can be moved. Absolutely dire listening. Sorry.

Mark Harvey

If nothing else our support tonight was utterly magnificent. Drove down this morning with my 8 year old boy for his first game outwith Scotland. When we arrived at the hotel he was given an RFC pin badge by an older gentleman that he hasn't stopped looking at since. From then on absolutely every Rangers fan we've spoken with has been a credit to the club. He's done countless games at Ibrox but i think today will really stay with him. The 15 minute long rendition of 'Ibroxonia' at the end of the game was monumental. We deserve so much better from our team.

Heart and Hand

If he can’t do anything, that’s a huge concern. Nobody thinks a manager should win a league with this squad - but it should be able to do the basics and tonight it couldn’t. Nobody enjoys negativity but we can’t pretend what we’re watching isn’t what we’re watching. That first half was a mess.

C. J

The alarm bells are now ringing, for me. Postecoglou had Welsh, Ralston, Taylor and Starfelt looking like Real Madrid players within a couple of months. His squad was absolutely dire when he came in, Clement had a better starting point than he did, IMHO.

Stace1ofthePeople

Having listened to all prematch/ post match I actually feel really sorry for PC. He came in and showed us how well he can do and got us a trophy within weeks. No other manager has had the ability to do that in recent times. Had it not been for the shambles of fitness and availability we arguably could and should have won the double/treble (I know all ifs buts and maybes) but he should have a bit credit in the bank and deservedly so. I'm disappointed in Todd Cantwell arguably one of our "better" and creative players who would again probably improve the team with better players around him wanting to move on for a different challenge? He doesnt sound as if he is up for a title race or challenge here so good luck with a challenge elsewhere tod you shat the bed along with the rest of the team last season . That leaves PC with lowry/Lawrence who aren't good enough along with many others and minimal finances. He really has got his work cut out but I hope our support don't turn on him as if he leaves we are as well just shutting shop as we will never get out of this cycle. We are really under the cosh at the moment just have to hope we get some quality in the door . I think we will but think timing will be the issue. Fun times ahead 🤣🤦‍♀️💙💔

Darren Stewart

We're not so much a smouldering bin fire as a raging sewage plant inferno. This season is already a write off.

Doug Young

If that's a League One side, then the gap in finances between England and Scotland is worse than I thought. They were talented, organised, quick to press and had a few gems in there. We looked like what we were- a cobbled together mess of young legs, recuperating crocks and headless chickens. Tav was embarrassing- checked out, clearly. Cantwell asking to leave I suspect is a reflection on his relationship with the manager, not the club. To me, we always look at our best when we are pressing high and snapping in. Long way from that now. Hey ho.

David Innes

If Lowry or Lawrence are regular starters this season we’re going to be in serious trouble

Angus Mackay

Ange inherited a team that had won 9 of the last 10 championships and 4 trebles. He had a very competent core to work with (including an experienced midfield anchor in his prime). They were able to get the fodder out quickly (because it was a regular summer) and so he had his own players from the outset and he had them early. He also got the guts of £40m to spend, if memory serves. Even at that it was well into the autumn before his play style started to emerge properly and if Gerrard hadn't spat the dummy we would have been out of their reach by then. The reality is that a lot - a lot - of their fans wanted him gone probably into October, but the board stuck with him and were well rewarded. Clement has a far bigger turnaround to achieve with fewer resources. This autumn is unlikely to be a easy watch and there are going to be painful setbacks. That is the realistic outlook on trying to achieve such a massive turnaround on what is a relatively modest budget. We have two choices, we can accept that and get behind the manager and young team while they grind that out or we can blame him for our frustrations and move on to the next guy. I wish I was more confident about the right outcome. Everyone on here was happy enough with Clement's style in the spring before the injury crisis decimated the squad completely. It was referenced constantly on the pod as a breath of fresh air after the Beale shambles. We were playing a very effective press and hitting teams hard on turnover. My frustration is that all of that seems to have been lost in people's frustration with the horrible end of that team. He was trying to do the same last night because he needs to see if the young players he has can be a part of that.

Andy mccrorie

They fucked it by sacking eustace for Rooney last year or they would still be in the championship , decent players

Craig McWhinnie

Think its a bit unfair to say Dessers scores when the game is already won, he dug us out of a hole more than once last season, don’t get me wrong he’s not good enough to main man but lets not pretend none of his goals mattered

KennyY

I genuinely think it’s more than 10 unless by some miracle the new players that come in push the form of the likes of Matondo, McCausland and Danilo. But as the boss said Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Gary Shaw

I wouldn’t look too much into any team that looked good against this Rangers team tbh

Darren Stewart

The Boyne 🤣. Thank you Jock, I was in need of some light relief this morning and you've provided it.

Fergie

"Don't pass the ball across the 18 yard box." That doesn't seem to apply in the modern game anymore Laura.

Martin Sutherland

Manager’s tactics are awful. Won’t go anywhere with him, regardless of personnel.

Laura Clarke

Yeah I know what you mean but I think there’s always a time and a place. If a team is sitting off a bit, or you’re very competent on the ball in a high press, the centre backs will play the ball between them. That scenario last night it seemed like the wrong option at the time for me. Passes between centre backs are usually fairly flat as it’s about triggering something to happen in front. He played it quite far ahead of himself as I recall, Balogun was maybe even behind him too? Would need to watch it again. He’s very raw though, sensing danger and decision making will improve with experience.

Stewart Robertson

People forget - WE are Rangers. The guys on the park are just an extension of us. We are the people 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Graeme Homer

Nsiala has never had minutes at any level? Really any level? Danilo needs minutes but you want him to be on the bench! How does he get the necessary minutes then? You’re told not to pass across the box, nope kids are being taught to play it across the box. Imagine watching Pep managing this team. Stop playing it but it in the stands, it’s not the 90’s under Walter Smith anymore. The first goal is on Balogun as the experienced CH there and if the ‘keeper is to deal with I’m expecting Butland to be slaughtered all season then lol The winger didn’t stroll by Tav, Tav was left with two men and went with the ball as he should have and the numbers got the better of him and McAusland doing his usual lack of defending yet again but wouldn’t expect less bias. McAusland chance being down played by saying his XG wouldn’t have been high. Jeez he had options to pass to or chip the ‘keeper and he made the wrong choice again. For the second Dio and Ridvan are to blame. They stopped and one jumped over it! On the pressing teams don’t press like headless chickens or even how they did 5 years ago. The athletic did an amazing piece explaining this. Of course the team is weaken but I’d rather watch a weaken team with the youths than the usual frauds like Kent, Lundstram etc and we are even close to being finished ffs this is what we going to be watching. Scott Wright came through at Aberdeen and played at Dundee too as a CAM, we bought him as a CAM of course he looks better there, he’s not a winger.

Granters

Tbh plenty of us have been calling for a ‘take no shit’ manager who clears the decks and makes big, bold decisions. Clement seems to be doing just that. Problem is it looks like we just can’t get quality in quick enough, although things seem to be starting to move now. It’s been a sluggish market across the board this summer though, not just a Rangers thing.

maccalsa

Their best player is being scouted by big clubs in Italy. We are way behind that level

maccalsa

Yep, in fact PC told is as much, maybe he was preparing us for what a shit show this season will be. He told us that we had experienced pros leaving, and that's players who have come in for a fee and high wages and left for nothing, which is just not a sustainable model for a club like Rangers

Angus Mackay

Thanks Gregg. I don’t want to discourage anyone, I just think we need to collectively buckle up and stay behind the manager above all else, because the road back to the top is a hard one.

Heart and Hand

I agree and I think the club should have set expectations accordingly. This season is likely to be transitional and I genuinely believe if we see signs of progress throughout the season fans will accept that. But we haven’t set the expectations so the potential early pitfalls will be magnified . Oh and obviously the utter shambles with Ibrox has hurt.

Angus Mackay

Yes, that is a sore wound, Davie - no doubt about that. The board need to help the manager as you say. In a previous iteration they dealt Gio a lousy hand; I don’t want us to become a club with that reputation within the game. It’s past time for Bennett to break his silence.

Laura Clarke

I totally agree with you on the current state of play. Anyone who knows me well will tell you that I’ve been saying continuously that we have to be patient, realise this is a huge transition and it will be difficult. We can’t throw the head up and sack Clement when things inevitably don’t look great in October. A post match isn’t really the place to go over old ground about the state of the squad the manager inherited but I did mention that I think he’s been dealt a terrible hand with the stadium and squad situation. At the same time, I think it’s fair to be concerned at what we saw last night. I’m an optimistic person and I don’t enjoy criticising the team or the manager but it would have been foolish on our part to pretend all was ok. At the same time though, as mentioned on the pod (although we’d maybe lost you by then), I recognise that it was half a team and it’s pre season. That’s totally fair if you didn’t enjoy the pod, Angus. Let’s hope for more positive games to report on in the very near future 😊

Laura Clarke

Thanks, Neil. It wasn’t a good watch and as a result it’s not always easy or enjoyable to do a pod for such a game. However, I’m hopeful of movement in the market soon and an upturn on Saturday then into the real stuff at Tynecastle.

Angus Mackay

Thanks Laura, I appreciate that. I think everyone's nerves are a bit frayed at the moment in the light of the apparent shambles that the running of the club by the board is at the moment. I hojnestly believe the only thing the fans can do is back the manager to the hilt and hope that somehow or other he can turn this thing around. If he managers that, he'll have the undying gratitude of us all, I'm sure. Thanks for all that you put into H&H, it's very much appreciated.

Laura Clarke

No worries 😊 Yeah I think everyone is very on edge for obvious reasons. We will just have to strap in and hope for improvement.

Pedro

Isn't it Aris Thesaloniki in Greece that Cifuentes is meant to be heading to?
