Ah the drums then the guitars. We’re back in business.

Jim McCutcheon

Thanks Cammy & David 👍 looking forward to Saturday with a slightly nervous edge 🤔🙂

Dessers with a crucial chance against Celtic or in Europe: how many of your pennies would you put on him to score? Like Sakala, like Wright, like Matondo we are talking about a player who will guide us to a comfortable second spot in the league. They’ve had their chance last season.

Stressed I am but a Ranger we are 💙

Great honest balanced pod guys , both nervous and excited for the season

Really looking forward to the season. If Tav stays, where does Sterling fit in? We can't bench him and not sure if he can go in with Barron & Dio in midfield. If Tav doesn't go now or in January, we won't get rid of him and he'll turn into a Jack/McGregor type of choice.

Can’t get on board with the tav wasn’t consistent last season bit. He scored a cup winning goal, he scored 24 goals in all competitions. He carried the team at times. Do I think it’s time for him to move on yes but don’t say he hasn’t been consistent it’s just rubbish.

Heart and Hand

Hmm - his form was patchy at the start, good from Nov to March then poor in last two months. That’s literally the definition of inconsistency.

Graham Ross

Thanks guys, getting excited for Saturday. Mon the Bears.

Gregg

Agree with Davy - think sterling is a right back. He has done a job in the middle, sample size is very small though. Don’t want to see sterling on the wing again

We needed to move most of the Leadership group on and maybe keep only 1 If fit id have kept Jack....he isnt so time. I wanted 2 of the 3 Tav, CG and Lunny gone....my preference was keep Tav if i kept 1. Hopefully he is spelled this season and if required phased out

Gents, excellent pod. Taking the debate away slightly from Dessers (both your comments fair and balanced on him) isn’t the wider issue that no one number 9 is the issue, it’s wider than that ? How many goals does a striker have to score for them to be a success? What goals, in what competitions, against what teams do they need to net to be successful ? Most importantly how much of the burden do we expect one guy to shoulder and is that realistic ? Playing a single striker doesn’t anticipate that they will be the only player making or taking chances to rack up 60 goals while the rest of the team are bystanders. Last year Dessers scored in every completion, he scored in Europe, he scored against Celtic and he scored goals that either delivered or cemented wins. Is he deadly and delivers consistently no he isn’t, but he was neck and neck with the only other guy in the league who scored regularly in Shankland on most stats throughout the season. Isn’t the real question who else is chipping in and supporting the striker ? Or for me certainly , is a single striker the best option ? If we were signing Dessers this year off the back of the season he just had for us we would be delighted. The next best striker in the league is also among many fans ‘limited’ or ‘slow’ or ‘only useful domestically as a third choice’ etc I think sometimes we need to stop and take stock of where we are, what our needs are and where our market lies. As I said I think you guys were fair in your comment. I get for some they just don’t like the guy, totally fair. For others they want more consistency, yep so do I but I’m not sure what that translates to because if it’s to a 40 goal a year striker in the SPFL (mainly) then we haven’t seen one of those for a long time. Further I am not sure that in our budget and in this low block league that’s as easy a task as folk think. Does anyone with anything other than blind faith think that Danillo is getting 40 this season ? If Dessers got into to less goal scoring positions but converted the same ratio would that be ok ? Or is the real problem that we are putting the focus and onus on one guy ? One guy who absolutely can be frustrating but who surely has the right to look around asking what the defence, midfield and other attackers are doing to add goals or keep clean sheets ? I agree with the proposal we need a better all round striker that perhaps better suits our set up (if that is set in stone now until 2028) but what I can’t get with is those who slate Dessers, I don’t even think the argument he doesn’t score in important games adds up under scrutiny given it took Morelos considerably longer to get an Old Firm goal and Dessers bar terrible referee decisions could have had a few in one season and two chopped off could have been winners! The boy is far from perfect, if we can sell at his age and recoup I totally agree we should cash in but I don’t subscribe to the huge fear around him, what if he is now settled, fitter and just kicks on with some new team mates ? My ideal would be Shankland plus Dessers or Danilllo or the Moroccan as I prefer a 442 or 433 but if we need to go with Dessers my focus will be on how are we supporting him and who is feeding off him or swarming around him not on obsessing over his misses, all strikers do that.

Despite our views, I think we all need to get away from the idea of Sterling playing in midfield. Despite the mess last season and despite it being clear what Sterling could do, Phil never once picked Sterling to start a match in the centre of midfield. He won’t start doing it now. He’s here firmly as a RB I reckon.

Your spot on about Tav, David. He’s a lightening rod for anything negative. It’s time for him to go as no matter what, he can’t win. Check Twitter yesterday. The SPFL tweeted a match from 2016 where Tav was to blame for conceded goals, some of the hatred he received was disgraceful. Some of the behaviour of the support on social is embarrassing too. People spewing hatred and contempt because (checks notes) poor back post defending in 2016.
