Huge disappointment for Rangers as Kyiv advance.

Delgers

So much dead wood dragging the club down. Board are also culpable due to the so called rebuild

John Smith

Any clarification on the 2 handball incidents ? Both looked penalties when I saw them but I don’t remember any replays.

John

Yellow card rule needs changed. IMO VAR should look at both the decisions and if both are correct then it’s fine but if one isn’t correct the player can continue.

Derek Stevenson

David, what were your thoughts and feeling waiting on Clement to answer the Danilo walking/limping question? Deflated, baffled or worried? Genuine question to a true fan getting to ask the manager that question.

Jim Milne

We will be lucky to finish 2nd this year with this squad.

Michael Scott

The clubs a bit of a mess top to bottom frustrating to see the mismanagement of the club

Rona Bluebell

I have nothing positive to add so better saying nothing but well done again having to record right after that result

Alan Spiden

Well said, the ref cost us the game but the overall situation at the club is not acceptable and that’s down to the board.

Maca82

Ref to blame tonight but increasingly feel we are done as a big club. Tim’s had the Espanyol patter for years but they are not wrong in 2024. I had a season ticket all through the banter era but now at the stage not even got the wean this seasons home top, the apathy comes from the top to us the rank and file. Not sure where we go from here but about to be overtaken by them in trophy’s while we get condescending interviews about why we have no stadium: juniors or the odd EPL as a tourist for me I reckon. Not entitled not reactionary just done with it.

Daniel Ward

Unless we unearth 3/4 gems in the transfer window for peanuts then come September 1st we will be 5 behind in the league, we will be playing in a stadium that’ll have more tickets available on seat sub than fans in the stadium and we will have a chairman posted missing yet again. We know how this season goes it’s just how soon do we get to the apathy and writing it off stage.

james whyte

Depressingly accurate Davie

Russ

Going to be 2/3 seasons before we're a decent outfit. Lawrence and Dessers just aren't it upfront, they can't run, pass or hold the ball up. It's like 2 men down.

MARK DRIVER

This team just seem to continually break my heart

Russell McGhee

Bottom line is we have zero quality. We have a team of what Eric Cantona called Water Carriers, problem being those Water Carriers, Diamonde and Barron are our best players...and by some distance. That is how far we have fallen.

8luenose1872

This board has got off far too lightly for utter incompetence. Bisgrove left in may ffs and the transfer window has been pretty unbelievable. Prioritising youth players who arent even fit or who will not even get a chance when our defense is shocking. The boy from milan was free so i suppose fair enough but spending 1.8 million on a player who couldn't even train with the 1st team coz he was that unfit is baffling with the squad as bad as it was.

Jimmy Price

Absolute fkn shambles all round!

Jamie Gilchrist

You’ve said in the past Davie, when apathy kicks in the game is up….that attendance tonight is the start of that

Fiona McMeekin

And Ridvan getting stretchered off was just the icing on the cake 😭

Brian Rae

Spot on. The board have gotten off lightly with their continual incompetence. Will it take our season to completely unravel before we demand improvement? I'll be honest, I don't think I've got the patience any more and IMO we've all shown more than enough patience in the last decade to last a lifetime.

C. J

We are in a really, really bad place lads. Celtic are going to win 6 or 7 in a row, no bother.

William George Bell

We’re in desperate need of new investment and leadership, the chairman’s interview a few weeks ago left me feeling that he’s very much out of his depth and lacks the vision and drive to get us back on top. I hope I’m wrong but everything until now says the opposite.

Steffen McAndrew

I wonder whether they may now be forced into selling Butland to raise some decent cash?

Mr J K Murray

chasing money games, ref being oscuro (dark), guess look on it all as bad management, Clem says see where we are in September of which if this continues will be worse, why have we become so poor on and off the pitch (few relatively easy CL games & then drop down ect),

Colin Reid

That last point is absolutely bang on.

Spoon

I mentioned on the CEO thread until the sending off I was thinking we will wear them down and they will tire if we get to the last 20 level or ahead, sadly the ref done us and I dont say that often. The team until then was workmanlike without being slick, I thought the wingers were terrible tonight on both sides and the service to the striker was poor, very few decent chances carved out and the fouling on Dessers they got away with was criminal. Once we start chasing it unfortunately we play into their hands. We didn’t get to this place over night, the road back (if there is one) wont be a quick fix either but we must see something quickly from the board and team that gives hope and a visible path out of the mire. We must get better at utilising our not inconsiderable resources, we must get back at squad management / transfers and we must get more out of what we have. Board, Manager and football department need to step up sharpish. Each element needs to be far far better or this will get worse and as football and football supporters change we could be left behind. There is still time but some real ballsy decisions need made to stop the haemorrhaging of funds, credibility and good will.

Linda Mackay

Injury nightmares continue! Our players get injured in the act of shooting. Really quit unbelievable!

Blair McGunnigle

Agree with a lot of your summary David. But I don’t think Dessers was the problem tonight. IMO had one of his best all round games and held the ball up or laid it off well at times. 2 half chances when maybe could/should have got a shot away. Worry for me is that we won’t see Yilmaz for 8 weeks now and then when he comes back will be in and out of team down to fitness. A centre half, 2 midfielders, a ten and a Sima required.

CGG

If you think there was apathy tonight with the attendance, wait till Saturday

Mike Kilpatrick

Can't disagree on any of this - we were shafted by the referee with one of the worst decisions I can remember in over 40 years of watching football. But despite us being well in the game and, arguably, the better team, we still struggled to create due to the severe limitations of the squad. I think we were all left hoping that getting through this tie would help precipitate at least one new quality signing instead of more 'let's hope they can prove they're worth more money down the line' - but the financial reality is that we're now left looking for bargains instead of proven talent.

Alan Ferguson

Corporate negligence by the board…..so badly managed that we missed being able to play at Ibrox.

James Anderson

The fans are crying out for a midfield of Sterling, Barron and Diamondes Why does the manager not see this? And is Lawrence the new Lundstrum petboy?

William Hughes

With VAR involved in everything it seems but can't recommend a review because it's a second yellow, even when it's clearly wrong is incredible. Changed the whole game. When we couldn't keep the ball and the turnovers getting deeper in our half, unfortunately it was inevitable we'd concede. As hard as it would be, sell Butland to finance the much needed quality required throughout the squad. Sore one right enough.

Stephen

I am not convinced we would get a lot of money for Butland. Maybe £6/7 million? Would have to spend half of that on a new keeper. If he was really worth a lot of money we would have had a few bids by now

KMc

The poor leadership at the top has set us back years. We are in a cycle of stumbling from one shambles to the next as a result. We have completely lost our ‘Rangersness’. Grim times.

David

Spot on analysis, Davie.

Peter Hosie

They will get 60 unless we get rid of Bennet as he’s overseen disaster after disaster 🤬

Bryan Watson

Decision was shocking as was the ref all night to be honest. I didn't think Rangers were good tonight but I didn't think they were bad, they were just okay and ultimately just being okay won't get you into the Champions League. I back the manager to take us to where we want to be long term partly because of what he did last season and partly out of an acceptance we cannot continue to sack managers however, really struggling to see why he sticks with 4-2-3-1 long ball tactics when he do not have the players for it. Dessers cannot hold a ball up, the No10 position is really annoying because Lawrence doesn't contribute going forward and he doesn't do the running to support Dio/Barron - the manager is asking a severely limited player to fulfil 2 things which I don't get when we have the option there to go to a more solid 3 with Sterling or even commit to a 2nd striker when Danilo/Igamane are ready to play. Thats on the manager. You're spot on though this is the board's mess. They should have told Gerrard that we were selling players at peak value after 55, we took the gamble on him beating Malmo and its been bad call after bad call since. I was really annoyed by John Bennett's "a big boy did it and ran away" tone in his address - he was there, he was an active participant in this mess. Every AGM "Ross Wilson is doing a great job and we are really happy with him", puts out a video saying we had a class squad in a terrible season, gave Michael Beale the credit card to go nuts with. He was there, this is his and the board's mess - just because you're a "Rangers man" and are well intentioned does not make you the man for the job. That is not even touching on stadium which is a diabolical failure of leadership from a project management and procurement perspective. We are down a hole and I don't think we can escape it anytime soon.

jason hart

Can't disagree with any of that David ... let's be honest money aside and we really need that but this squad playing in champs league would not have been pretty On cantwell .. and I know he's stressed he wants to leave (and a disclaimer I don't rate him as highly as he thinks he is) but he is better than what we have .. is Clements stance not counter productive and maybe damaged his own rangers future

Vanb bryceter

Butland is average tav is done at this level soutarr was good as was propper yilmaz omg dio worked his arse off so did barron jefte showed promise as did mcausland lawrence was gash dessers worked his arse off without much support. Clement is operating with both hands and feet tied behind his back. The board are incompetent there in lies the problem. We are where we were when Holmes came in we need a new investor with deep pockets.

Graham Jones

Screwed by the referee and screwed by the board. The thing is, I’m not sure how they are regarded by the fans right now. They exist in a bubble at times, and while they have to keep things close to their chest a lot of the time they do need to be better at communicating. We were told over two weeks ago now that a new CEO would be forthcoming, and we are still waiting. There is still no replacement for the academy either. This game has cost us a huge amount of money, and unless they have a plan B for the financing of the rebuild then it has severely set us back. We are lacking talent still in areas, but that referee was just a joke. The board need to look at raising fresh revenue from somewhere because the manager is a good manager but not a magician. What was the case with VAR. That’s there to catch mistakes, surely?

James

That is shocking. Some of our fans don’t deserve Rangers frankly.

Andy Gray

For the fee we paid, that is another big game Diomande has been a passenger. Had a great chance in 2nd half and totally fluffed it. And on more than a few occasions when he gave the ball away he was pretty lacklustre in his attempts to get it back. If we are paying around 4m we need these guys to come in and be game changers. Really disappointing

Liam Johnson

It is just the way Danilo walks

Colin Mackenzie

All I could think watching that was Gios team would have torn Kyiv side apart, even with 10 men, they’re average at best yet somehow we’re worse. Been set back years by Beale. On the plus side Cerny looks good.

Gary Shaw

Nobody is breaking the bank to buy a GK who’s hopeless with the ball at his feet from a team who are in dire need for cash..

Gary Shaw

Sending off is terrible but let’s face it,we’re just not very good…..Unless Celtic have a covid style collapse in the next few years,we’re not winning a cup let alone a League….No sellable assets,no second place CL next season (not that we’ll qualify anyway) and a squad chock full of overpaid non achievers…it really is grim for the foreseeable.

Luke

Things are going to get worse before they get better. Could tell that ref was going to send someone off in the first half. That’s got to be the worst decision I’ve seen in a European fixture in quite some time. How hard must it be as a new player coming into this shit and having to buy into an identity and philosophy that management have sold to you before signing. My only hope, now, for the season is that we have about 7/8 new faces through the door at the end of the window. None of that squad have shown signs that they are going to turn anything around. Expectations are at an all time low this season. Rangers being Rangers, will no doubt find a way to obliterate them anyway. Grim.

Andrew Whiteside

100% The board making poor decisions got us where we are. They need to find the resources to fix this.

David Scott

The red card papers over the cracks of a poor squad and the managers poor choices in starting 11 and his utter failure to time substitutes better in matches, he has been here a long time now and i have yet to be convinced he is the man to take us forward on the pitch, the board shambles aside.

Robert White

Morning lads. Well I'm reading this fresh this morning and you are all needing to calm down. The ref done us. We looked like going through. That's decent. Team worked their socks off. We lack a cutting edge but it's coming along in general play. Bring on Thursday Ibrox nights. No surrender.

stephen

I'm going to tell my story of last night which I honestly think may explain last nights attendance to a degree. I have 4 season tickets at Ibrox for me and the family. Something I'm sure that is fairly common within our support. It's our family thing that we do together and enjoy. I like in Glasgow and it took me 1hour 20 minutes to get to Hampden last night by car. We missed the first 10mins and we were all generally harassed by the time we got there. I was £106 for the privilege of last night but because of Hampdens location and the fact I work I'm genuinely going to have to consider not being able to attend evening kick offs. I think others may have already made this decision and I don't blame any one of them. Just my story guys and if it loses me staunch points I'll accept. I've also now had two separate seats at Hampden and in both occasions there has been periods of the game I've not got a clue what's going on.

Jason

Nail. On. Head. Agree with everything you said, and absolutely no feel good factor around the club whatsoever just now.

Glen Kane

Kiev's campaign has the look of Marseille 1993. Nine goals in the first round and a ridiculous sending off in the second. Salzburg should be very concerned about what they're facing.

Bill McCairns

Given the abject over the top. negativity in other groups it’s good to hear (and see) an objective analysis that still doesn’t pull any punches but lays the blame where it should lie.

David Innes

The only way we’re selling out Hampden is if we’re still there for the new year OF game

William George Bell

100% I see no discernible style or pace to our play. When the fans turn on him he’ll be gone. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

William Hughes

He's the only double figures £M, sellable player we have. Sell one to fill potentially 3 or 4 positions. Tell me a keeper or any player who doesn't make mistakes? We were talking about why it's crazy Butland wasn't in the England squad for the Euros a few months ago.

ali t

Only positive was that we defended well......until goals obviously. Got to say if Ridvan is out for more than 2 weeks we must punt.

Calum Robertson

My starting eleven after end of August transfer window....Butland (c), Sterling, Balogun, Proper, TBA, Barron, Diomande, TBA, Cerny, TBA, TBA. Now get selling players we don't want or need and finish the much vaunted rebuild.
