You've all done well to make yesterdays shit show into an hour's podcast. Look forward to listening to it Gentlemen

Stewart Robertson

To quote The Smiths - “Heaven knows I’m miserable now”.

Steffen McAndrew

We all agreed in January we need a better, stronger, "more bastardish" team. We still don't have it; maybe it will take more windows. Bastard central defender to partner Proper. Bastard central midfielder. A decent striker.

8luenose1872

The managers decisions were absolutely baffling, keeping dessers on for the full 90 when he was that bad was shocking and throwing igname on for the last 10 mins at left wing 3 nil down was setting him up for a fall (thank fk it didnt ruin a 1st impression for alot of fans) and danilo playing a part in the last couple and scoring in the previous game but not getting on to replace the non existent dessers was unbelievable if only to get him more minutes in his legs coz we need him up the speed desperately. There were other bad decisions but this post is long enough!!!!

Bob MacCallum

Re Tav, instead of wasting a player to support a " weak link", why not just eliminate that weak link? Especially when we now have TWO possible replacements. Do not move him to midfield as that would take out a PROPER midfielder. Shouldn't be switching players to accommodate a guy who is finished!

Bob MacCallum

Re Dessers pressing: yesterday when their keeper had the ball at his feet, I was fed up watching Dessers run towards him only to see the inevitable pass out to a defender where Dessers SHOULD have been! Surely a simple point the manager should be able to get across. Last season Dessers continually stood in front of the keeper when he had the ball in his hands. Why? What did he think the keeper might do - drop it? Should have been marking a defender. Another job for a proper coach or the game analysts.

Douglas Innes

Think that says more about where the manager thinks Danilo is in regards to getting fully fit and match sharp

Tamus

Dessers is a terrible terrible centre forward So many times he makes the wrong decisions at vital moments But hey, he scored 2 goals in our best result in 4 years

Tamus

We need to get Tavernier out of our team and off our wage bill

8luenose1872

Sorry mate thats rubbish, igname was deemed not fit enough to even be on the bench for the county game and danilo played and scored, could have had a couple in fact so are u saying igname was more ready for 10 to 15 mins than danilo? The managers decisions are baffling, its like he tries to be that way so no cnt can guess what he will do. How is danilo meant to get up to speed??

Spoon

Enjoyed the therapy. Not sure I agree with Andy that we can only play one way, this to me suggests when you buy a player with a skill set they can’t be changed or trained to a different role. You can surely set up to maximise strengths and minimise weakness or even do a Levin and just shut up shop, Im not suggesting I want to see that but its an extreme example of setting up to achieve something. I can’t believe a big lump of a guy like Clement doesnt understand what it takes to win or be a warrior in football. To win what he has won before or play at the level he has he has to get what it takes to win. We have become too enamoured of these modern football tactics bods, he talks about systems and space and half space but what he needs to understand in Scotland is sometimes you need to fight for the right to play. To hear Andy tell it the coach actually doesn’t do very much but pick the team. If he isn’t coaching, if he isn’t motivating and inspiring, if he doesn’t have more than one plan what is he doing ? Davids point on Tav is fair, not sure though he hasn’t been over taken by Dessers this seasons for ire and Souttar must be gaining ground with the power of abuse he gets. The comment from Ross around Tavs captaincy is spot on, we desperately need leadership and our captain knows he isnt at it or contributing, it must hurt him regardless of what people think about it. Andy’s point is well made about radical thinking I’m not sure we have that in us though, as we can’t even switch to a 352 or even better a 442. David your spot on about players and roles, we are square pegging round holes. That’s the biggest issue here although Andy’s take on physicality is valid, we could have used a Shankland up from yesterday, not huge but I bet we would have had; bite and controlled aggression. The issues is exactly what you guys discussed, we are in a cycle of bad decision after bad decision. Nothing they have done has worked, infrastructure, personnel, signings, commercial, stadium any part of a football club we are involved in we are gash. I also dont want the manager sacked but he has to be far more pragmatic and I want the foreign experiments binned. I want a focus on all things domestic, we need to forget European obsession (bar the money from participation) in terms of how we want to play, we need to sing local talent already familiar and bloodied in our league and we need to start making friends regardless of how unpalatable it is. I wonder what happens when all our records fall as we are asked to pretend that next season will be the season. WE are now not the masters of the OF derby and it wont turn back around any time soon. We will soon no longer be the most successful team in football, they will. That’s the reality of this board, the idea that we feel sorry for Bennet is miles off, he would expect managers in his own business to carry the can for their teams or their actions. He has to carry this, his delay in getting the structure in place to fanny about with steel is a joke, its like the MD going into the warehouse to wrap parcels while the sales dry up and accounts go unpaid. You do what you’re good at, you operate at your level and you make the big decisions. My biggest worry of all of this is this board arent actually looking after Rangers the institution but are fully focused on micromanaging their investment, not sure those are compatible. Andy’s end comments are spot on we can turn it around, but someone needs to be willing to change what we have been doing or how can we expect different results. The board need to change tack, the manager certainly seems to be more flexible in his approach and the players need to find some minerals. Enjoyed the pod, despite the situation all any of us want to do is talk Rangers and ease the pain.

Jim McCutcheon

Thanks again guys listening to h&h helps me too look at things in a broader perspective 👍

Stewart Robertson

"Pyrrhic victory". Now, that's highbrow. You won't hear THAT on PLZ.

Paul Williamson

On the subject of having soft players, watching the video of the guy hurling abuse at the players post-match , and Tav in particular, not one of them had the bottle to stick up for themselves , for their teammates , or for their captain . That tells me there is a serious lack of unity amongst that squad. More worryingly is the lack of fight, spark, anger, indignation moral fibre, call it what you will to defend themselves from that onslaught. What does it take to prompt a reaction from this bunch?

Thomas

I get what the guys are saying about not burning the place down and the need for continuity but I just don’t think it will happen. It will get as toxic as Aberdeen last season if results stay the same. The club want patience but unfortunately for them the fans have been for a decade now. The fans want success and if it doesn’t come fast fans will vote with their feet .

Billy Forrester

Easier said than done, he obviously didn’t want to go anywhere this summer and is on a big wage and has a testimonial, why would he give that up

Paul Holst

You almost got me back there Andy with that glass half full stuff - thankfully I’m stronger willed than that..

Spoon

Well we need to realise what we have being doing for some time isn’t working so why not. We can then hope it’s a gateway formation for hardcore 442.

Simon Botterill

Fans want a cultural change, we can't continue to be us in the present environment. We have to cross a few lines (especially in the media - I believe a lot of issues arise here), the emotion on Tav needs to be removed, a RB captain is very unstrategic (i.e. the ref runs from LB to LB) position for a captain, especially in a league that is so heavily influenced and fans need to find a collective voice on the changes required which for me are well beyond 'better footballers'. We need all members of the club to be harsher/firmer more ruthless and at times very deliberately firm/nasty as required. Too focused on the players not enough focus on the intensity attitude. That lot are absolutely ruthless on moaning, diving, constant cheating on the pitch, and playing at intensity, off it they talk absolute nonsense with a circus of a media army. Whether you like it they are doing everything, we are being 'nice people' and hoping it works out. Semi professional look on and off it now.

Scott Farquhar

We're finding a space for Sterling soon enough, Sterling needs to play at RB ffs. It's glaringly obvious!

Barry

It is possible to have a new board/regime in place who covers the finances and gets the footballing side right too! New ownership would be aware of the need for an overdraft/credit facility from the books/due diligence.

Bob MacCallum

Correct, Billy. No way to get rid of him but don't use him as an automatic starter. Should be a squad player or brought on later in a game if possible / necessary. Same should apply to Hagi, with the money he's on - if can eliminate the pay hike voluntarily.

Marky Philpott

I agree with Andy about about moving Tav into midfield, I see some comments saying Tav needs dropped completely but for me Tav is the only player who try's to make things happen in these games. The midfield needs packed out in these games as they utilise space so we'll and rip us apart time and time again. Before the game I was thinking of the team changing tactics to 352 and have there two centre half's occupied. The thing that frustrates me soo much is last season we all seen it, a blind man on a galloping horse could see it!! Dessers is not good enough to lead the attack. Danilo looks like he is completely done as a player or else the manager just doesn't fancy him at all. No idea what Igamane will bring but I hope and prey that he is the answer for us at the top end of the pitch (the area that has cost us time and time again) Why has Clemments attitude changed as in all about the next game. He seems to talk about the future quite alot and how we will be better in Oct, September etc Good pod guys.

Spoon

That could be a new segment….Rangers based Smiths ….There is a tav that never gets subbed….Stop me if you think you seen us lose the same goal before……What difference does the new signings make…..and many many more

Scott Stewart

Agree but the manager keeps on playing him. He should have renewed the Captain on the first day of pre season. Started afresh and told tav he would be a squad player. And see if that forced him out. I’m sure he wouldn’t be here if that had happened. Although I do think the entire team and management of that is currently a shambles. Young Barron aside

Scott Dickson

3-5-2 would’ve helped cover a lot of our deficiencies. Souttar struggling, play him in a 3 where he played best for Hearts Tav getting tore to shreds by Maeda, goes to RWB so he has a CB to cover him Dessers ineffective? Play him with Igamane/Danilo and swap one of them at HT when their gassed The only deficiency it doesn’t solve is the desire and the effort. But not having players like Matondo in the side also helps, because he’s a man down in these games defensively

Spoon

They know they aren’t up to it, they must. You can’t defend the indefensible and they know it.

Heart and Hand

It’s possible to have the current board do it if they accept they are good at money but bad at football!

Tolmie

Really enjoy listening to Andy

Spoon

David it’s just crazy talk….coaches coaching or adapting nah not for me, can’t see it catching on. We just need to sign a Charlie Charleson type player and we would be golden.

Douglas Innes

Look at Aberdeen fixtures so far this season league cup included ...... we've never had a run of fixtures as favourable as they've had

Rona Bluebell

I feel like a broken record. We’re in transition, Clement had a window that boiled down to 3 hours and a fiver. We all accepted this change would take a few windows. So we couldn’t compete against the team who consistently keep winning the league. Of course we couldn’t after this summer. Transformation takes time and grit. I say this from a place of deep respect of H&H but you need to shake yesterday off and see the bigger picture or you’ll be in the mad house by Christmas.

KennyY

I like this manager and genuinely believe that he can bring success back to our club but he’s just heaped enormous pressure on himself and the players by suggesting that the January Ibrox game will be a lot different. There’s a hell of a lot of work to keep it just to a 5 point gap with Celtic before then.

Barry

There's also the off-field drama that has continued since DK & 3 bears took over. Never ending cycle of court cases (inc. kit supplier issues); building works being delayed, over budget or mothballed; fights with the authorities and failure to regain influence in Scottish football.

Paul Kerr

Cheers gents. I'm not in any better frame of mind today than I was yesterday. Board level it's hard to be positive, we haven't heard too much about the cost of the Hampden debacle yet, but the transfer policy changed very quickly when the bad news came to light, so clearly it was expensive. Fannying about appointing key positions is hurting us badly. The manager doesn't seem to learn anything, that's a worry, he needs to adapt. I think it's inexcusable to be so ignorant of what we can all see when it comes to things like right back or getting a man on Kyogo. Supporters have watched Rangers for decades we know what we are seeing and if he won't try and fix it we'll lose patience. The players shat it and there's nobody there to lift them, Tavernier is so far off it, he's not gonna be holding anyone to account on the pitch or in the dressing room. I think all 3 of you said it repeatedly. Leadership. We are rudderless due to the lack of it at every level.

Steve Stewart

Ah another therapy session. Another 5 or 6 of these and I might be healed somewhat

Robert Lawless

He’s been here for almost a year, can we please say ‘Clement’ correctly lads!

Martin Davies

The sight of Dessers looking like he was going to burst into tears with a cut lip is symptomatic of our squad. These guys don't have the stomach for a fight. There is no nasty streak in any of them. Lazy, workshy, soft, cowardly, vastly overpaid.

William George Bell

I hope you’re right but I’m afraid I’m quickly losing confidence in him. The things he says after matches are different to what I’m seeing.

Colin Mathie

If we drop anymore points Andy, and don't forget right now we're in a race to even finish 2nd, fans will go tonto and Ibrox will be toxic af.

KMS

Here's another worrying aspect that will raise it's head again at new year. We're losing the battle off the park as well, we go there and our players are intimidated and clearly show fear, they come to Ibrox and we do not instill that fear in them at all, the hatred they have for us is not reciprocated by us to them, so when they come to our place at new year the mythical 12th man will be a non starter, first misplaced pass, if we go one down, we will turn on the players, turn on each other, and that bleeds in to diluting what we offer in a stadium, Ibrox is not a place that instills fear for old firm games, they actively revel in silencing us, because we do so quickly, whereas when our club go there it is relentless. The team are shit but in situations like that we need to up our game as well, and I don't mean looking to a group of lads with a drum to inspire some background noise, we need to rediscover the venom, the hatred, the absolute contempt we used to give those c**ts in spades from the moment they stepped into the tunnel to the moment they left that pitch.

David Lindsay

Good pod gents, to say I enjoyed it is a stretch but found myself nodding along to a lot of it. I agree that the cycle we're in of sacking every Autumn will get us nowhere, however I have serious misgivings about Clement. I'm not seeing a style of play, and the signs of progression and being a well coached team we saw for a few seasons under Gerrard (the last guy who got time) are pretty much absent. Gerrard's sides early on also delivered performances / results against them which made a huge difference. A tough season ahead.

Roderick Boyle

Too many of team would fit into The Wizard of Oz , straw man , the lion , tin man , take your pick .

Roderick Boyle

Andy , we are rudderless on the park .

Craig scullion

Its unforgivable from the board for letting the player contracts run down! We could have still kicked on after 55 if the "Trading model" was used correctly!

Ross

Good listen as always. What is fast becoming a concern for me is I’m struggling to name one player Clement has improved. You can argue he needs time to bed in new signings, implement tactical changes….but by now I would have hoped to see one or two of the players he inherited and/or signed in January show clear signs of benefiting from his influence.

Christian Turney

Tavernier was struggling to play a 10 yard pass yesterday and couldn’t track a runner if his life depended on it and some people want him in midfield. He needs dropped the next game.

Allan Swan

It’s ironic Tintin starts to talk about last week 6-0 against Ross County and Ten Haag mentions he is not Harry Potter. I watched the Man U game after the OF same issues. I would bring Souness onto the board saw him defending us this morning on Talk Sport.

Revan1872

Would disagree on the point about 55 being a pyrrhic victory. As the main reason behind this is the board/Ross Wilson completely butchered things post 55. We had the opportunities post 55 to kick start the player trading model and keep us on a par with Celtic. However the mismanagement of the squad after this period is what's cost us

Andy McGowan

Easy to say, harder to do in practice - we sold Bassey and Patterson for unprecedented money and only made small profits those years. With a bit of daylight between then and now we can see that March 2020 we had massive player liabilities due to be paid of over £25m, this coincided with Dave King leaving, and our investor/directors and especially Park and Bennett picked up the sizeable slack and backed Gerrard with even more that summer and 55 was achieved. You then have to account for covering covid shortfalls. If we really simplify it, things that have cost us since 55 then - Malmo defeat, too many flop signings, and the success of the Postecoglu recruitment.

Bixby Snyder

Bob, go over to Tav's house, tell the bitches to leave, kneecap him, and then blow his house up with a grenade. Tell Philippe that you had to kill James Tavernier because he was a mistake and it was now time to erase that mistake.

C. J

This will annoy the immature elements of our support, but Rangers need a figure like Ange Postecoglou, a manager with a ferocious, unwavering will to overwhelm opposition and show absolutely no respect for our backwater league. Rodgers inherited a squad that felt nothing less than contempt for the rest of the entire league and the squad *knew* that hard work, commitment and relentless pressure will dominate in this league. We are far, far too passive as a club and we will not win, nor dominate this league if we don't turn the manager's role into a that of an attacking ideologue. Celtic are going to win 7 or 8 in a row at a canter. We have placed faith in the wrong guy here.

Bixby Snyder

Rodgers must send Ange flowers on a weekly basis as thanks for the squad he inherited. Bang average manager who will hopefully be found out once that first XI gets recycled.

Bixby Snyder

Question. Can we build a good player trading model if consistently finishing second in a league like Scotland and playing out of the Europa every season?

John Smith

Ange has that Walter like presence. We need someone that comes with an aura who’ll command immediate respect similar to Gerrard. Totally agree

John Palmer

The No Fans excuse was a complete joke and I hope we do the same for the New Year game whether we have the safety measures in place or not.

Stephen Gale

This. Not one single player has improved since he has been here. Not one. He isn't a good manager, we would have seen that by now.

Craig Scott

You think you feel low now just think how we will feel when they take over our trophy haul and we are no longer the most successful club

Derek Robertson

You talk about leadership , the fans wanted the leader in the team chased out, Goldson, Lunny and Ryan Jack . They got what they wanted. You talk about the 3 years of decline , well again , the fans chased Gio out of the club, the fans want Ross Wilson as DoF , most fans were happy with Beale getting the job. Maybe it's time for the board not to listen to the fans

Stephen Gale

I live abroad and when I say we are the most successful football club, everyone just laughs. Real Madrid are the most successful football club. We are the most successful football club, domestically in Scotland.

Doug Young

For a "big" guy, he spends an embarrassing amount of time on the deck with his arms out claiming for stuff. Drives me mental.

Andrew McManus

All change starts with the Executive Team, one of our problems is the Chairman tinkering across all levels of the organisation because we don’t have the right CEO. Appoint the right person there (quickly) and then make sorting out the ET and Club governance a priority. This doesn’t sort the team but it does mean responsibility/accountability is clearly defined across all of the roles and performance managed accordingly. The CEO appointment does 3 things, it creates the burning platform for change, they reset the culture and they are the point of contact for fans. All of these points have been identified in comments. On the team, there is no quick fix to the quality issue but we should be fit, drilled and hard to beat. We’re none of these at the moment. I’ve got nothing to add to the tactical/personnel points raised but if PC can’t pivot against technically better teams we’re going to take a few skelpings and be at least 12pts behind them this season (best case). Appreciate I’ve went off on a tangent, but for me, change starts at the top.

Martin Sutherland

I agree on David’s point about a new manager, if Clement fails, in the summer. Not mid season. I disagree that he should get a year. We have seen enough in the 10 months he has been here to know he won’t get any better. He doesn’t learn and is too stubborn (everything we heard from Monaco fans). This means in the next month or so we should be on the hunt for a caretaker. Someone who has a track record of short term fixes. I hope they aren’t putting everything on PC succeeding, because he absolutely won’t. Doesn’t have the skills or mindset to better Rodgers.

Scott Christian

You know the mentality game is lost when wee runts like McGregor can laugh in our players faces knowing they don’t have the heart or stomach for the fight. I said to my lad on Sunday when Dessers was complaining about his burst lip “oh the referee wouldn’t do anything it’s not fair” and it looked like he was looking to Carter-Vickers for support, there’s the issue right there. Can you imagine a single player in their side looking for solidarity with an opponent? The one good game we had v them was the cup semi under Gio, and there we even had Lundstram hauling Bassey away from seeing if their defender was ok. We’ve absolutely none of that in the current squad.

Ryan Stewart

Totally agree on two things that were mentioned 1 . We need stability in the dugout, firing and hiring yet another manager whilst the structure above them remains the same achieves absolute nothing. And doing it so often is part of the reason we are in the mess we are in, granted at the time i agreed with GVB and Beale departures 2 . Tavernier needs to leave and until he leaves Clement needs to stop picking him. I’m kind of over the whole captaincy debate, personally think our fans have a warped view of what a captain is in modern football, understandable though given the captains we’ve previously had. At the end of the day he isn’t and hasn’t for a long time now been playing well enough to be in the team and I say this as a massive fan of his over the years. The hours I’ve spent arguing on twitter defending him 🤣 I can’t do it anymore, it’s painful watching him on the pitch and seeing the reaction to him off it

Ross Baird

Agree with loads of points made on both posts match reaction and on this. David’s right, there are other problems at the club in addition to Clement. But his issues are the ones that are going to have an immediate impact on how this season goes. Clement’ approach against them is completely flawed. The attempt we make at screening McGregor using striker and number 10 is embarrassingly bad and easy for them to play round. Don’t even get me started on how easy we are to counter. Showed up in friendlies against decent teams and still there now. His shape doesn’t work and he doesn’t make tough calls on individuals, as discussed on pod. 343/352 or a more solid 433 is required. I find myself going into games saying we need Sterling in about 3/4 different positions. Perhaps our recruitment team should look as qualities he has that are effective in our league and recruit to suit. He’s the only player we have that I have any confidence in winning a dual or a race.

Gary Shaw

I wish we would stop this fixation about Celtics spending power…..up until Sunday,Diomande cost more than their full midfield (Hatate,McGregor,O’Reilly)…..They have a left side of defence that consists of Scales and Taylor and occasionally they have Ralston at RB…..they have a guy in Forrest that can go 8 months without playing a game then comes in for a few games and scores about 10 goals(he cost nowt)…..meanwhile we have a 5m Turkish international,4m on Davies,3 on propper,4 on Cortez,3 on Matondo,5/6 on Dessers and Danilo…..Kyogo hadn’t scored in god knows how long and plays against us like a wean on Christmas morning knowing fine well he’s going to get loads of gifts……the board are not blameless but the main problem is the structure of the team which comes from the Manager……to go into 5 OF games and do the same thing every time is criminal

stuart Campbell

We've all seen this movie play out before we're now in a position after 4 games that every game going forward is a must win game not a chance we'll make it to Christmas and not drop points so then what do we stick or twist with this manager how are we in this position again with 3 managers in two years

Ben

An you please ask at the next press conference about those “basics” you talked about. Unacceptable

james whyte

We need a C.E.O with experience at a football club of our standing. If we are doing a rebuild with a boy from St Mirren I fear we aint ever getting where we need to be. Depressing ain't it.

Hendi

At 0-0 there was a point we were passing the ball around the back, to invite their press. They were refusing to press and letting us knock it about the centre halves and keeper. The crowd got restless and we then played it forward as a result. We changed what we were doing because of the atmosphere, they didn't. That set the tone for a lack of bottle. We blinked first.

Hendi

If someone has experience at a club of our standing then he's taking a sideways step. He's reached the peak of his career. I'd rather have someone on an upward trajectory where who hasn't reached the limit of their development. Just like most of our signings should be.

Robert Atkinson

A level headed discussion concerning the circumstances. Bennett mentioned the need to cut costs by £10M at the AGM, but did not specify how much would come from player wages. Indeed, has had communication nothing on this rebuild strategy: how long will it take, what are the milestones, how do we know if it will be successful? There is also the wisdom of embarking on a deep cost cutting strategy while embarking on a significant infrastructure project simultaneously - couldn’t this have been delayed to allow a more gentle and better planned rebuild? The transfer window is testament to how rushed this rebuild is. Finally, this strategy only works if we can improve the players at the club and sell them for profit. Has Clement been able to improve anyone he’s brought to the club? Moreover, there are players like Matondo how are incapable of improvement - if he still can’t track a runner now then he never will.

james whyte

Not for me. Anyone who comes in on the assumption they can get better at their role is no guarantee of that being the case. If someone has a track record of being a C.E.O at a large worldwide recognised name and has shown they have been succesful then thats what we need IMO.

Hendi

They're not must wins at all, we aren't winning the league even if we win the next 10. We need to live in reality.

Gary Shaw

I noticed that aswell….As if to say,”they’re moaning at us so we better get a move on”

Hendi

If they were a succes though would they not want to progrss to a team with more resource though? What's the appeal of coming to us?

Daniel Ward

Tav is like my sky bet profit and loss description, you think you have had a few big wins this year but when you look at the profit vs the loss you realise you are only very marginally up. Should be removed and if he wasn’t the captain he would’ve already been removed

Nikky Cairney

Andy, how can you keep calling Clements approach in these games brave? It’s stupid not brave. And to say we don’t have the players to sit back like Smith would have is something you don’t know the answer to because he never tries anything different. It also doesn’t have to be such an extreme change like you’re making out. Go to a 433, play sterling in front of the back 4. Drop into a mid block and let CCV and Scales have the ball. Dessers sits on McGregor when we don’t have the ball and we have Sterling spare. Cuts off the pass onto Kyoto’s feet when he drops off then we can spring from there. We would have gained possession naturally because their centre halves aren’t good on the ball. It’s basic tactical changes. The defence of Clement needs to stop. He’s a one trick pony and after an initial uplift every team ons Scotland has figured him out. He needs to go.

Nikky Cairney

Also have heard Andy continually go on about physicality and power. They had a midfield of McGregor, Hatate and Bernardo. No physicality at al. Just organisation and work rate.

Scott Stewart

sakala was a popular figure at Ibrox and has hit it off in the SPL too - scoring 20 times in 33 appearances. A guy would injected some much needed pace into our front line another impact player who would have performed a decent turn for the club.

Nikky Cairney

We were but it’s not because Celtic have more physical players. It’s because they showed more fight and were organised better. And whether fans want to hear it or not that comes from the manager. In a perfect world players wouldn’t need that motivation but the fact is they do. I don’t think they believe in Clement and his embarrassing tactics.

Scott Stewart

our total net spend after player trading is around £6.2m. £5m came in from player sales and £11m was spent on player recruitment . Our wage bill is reduced by £5m , thefore is it really any wonder why our squad is amongst the worst we’ve had in an our history within spl ?? You get what you pay for. Major investment required at the club from board level !!

Doogz

Goldson Lundstram and Jack time had come and gone, it was right they were let go. Gio as good as the Europa League run was, was shown he just couldn’t get to grips with run of the mill league games.

Steve Clark

Andy telling it as it is.which was refreshing to listen to rather the fire and the fury elsewhere.

Graeme Guthrie

I think Bennet and Clement wrote this season off. They realised they couldnt rebuild the squad due to finances and it wasnt a 1 window fix, and thats why Clement got a new contract.

Hendi

And sends a message that the manager is safe and takes away player power, which has held too much sway.

Hendi

Big Andy the voice of reason again. Sets out the reality of the situation as it is. No amount of wailing and greeting will make that better, only worse. We need to take a couple of steps backwards before we can move forwards.

Scott Watson

The contract and Bennett's interview where he mentioned pre-trading losses were as close as anyone would dare get at signposting this as a transitional season

Andy McGowan

Agreed, it's semantics - physicality doesn't mean you need to be massive (might help though)

Bryan Watson

Andy is right to be speaking about "paying the piper". For me personally the start of this snowballing shit show was not selling a big asset or even 2 big assets after front loading all that investment in a time of great financial uncertainty to win that league (Morelos / Kent / Barisic / Aribo / Hagi / Kamara take your pick). Seen a lot of revisionism and romanticisation of Gerrard since Sunday but lets not forget our board wrongly put their chips on Gerrard beating Malmo and he couldn't. We should have won that tie but regardless putting all our chips on beating a team over 2 games is madness when you've got peak sellable assets. I think from that point we have just had no urgency to shift players to the point where we had Ross Wilson up on stage at an AGM bragging about how relaxed he was that our biggest assets were going to walk out the door for nothing. To compete with Celtic we need to raise the funds and that means shifting and reinvesting rapidly. If we could double our money or get a 25% profit at least on players such as Raskin, Ridvan, Cortes, Diomande etc who have potential then we need to do it, then subsequently do the same with their replacements. Thats the only way we are going to build a squad to compete with sell for profit, reinvest and repeat + stop splurging on mental wages.

A very good listen and nobody calms it down or speaks more sense than Andy McGowan. Enjoyed that and my glass is refilling to almost half full

Another cathartic pod. We can say what we like about the board, we cannot afford them to go anywhere as they are financing the club so they won’t. Clement needs to box clever, he needs to show that he (and possibly he alone within the club) understands the standards expected at Rangers and hold the players to that. If the squad can’t meet them, he needs to look at what he can get in to meet them. A further challenge I think Clement has is the start the new Aberdeen manager has made. New manager bounce of course but at this stage they seem together, well coached and well drilled. Everything we are not. That’s not the boards to fix, that’s Clement and he needs to do it fast.

Scott, I disagree slightly with “you get what you pay for”. So many in our squad have been earning wages nowhere near justified by their output. We need to be much more efficient.

David Kiltie

Our claim to be the most successful team in football is widely ridiculed. As soon as the Yahoos acquire the mantle no doubt it will become a highly valued accolade! Double standards as always.

What we should have done is but players to exploit the beggers across the city .. take Vickers he's walked through games and when called upon he is an old school defender .. we should have purchased a string physical striker to combat them .. I can't believe we let dykes slip away .. 1 million would have got him .. even if we only used him domestically then it would have been money well spent

jason hart

It's also leadership .. take diomande how many times was he down and stayed down or turned over the ball and walked back .. can you imagine that happening in the butcher Gough sourness or even the wee Barry days ... I don't think PC has installed that animal in the players but it's got to come from the players on the pitch they have to want to win and have to feel the hurt .. unfortunately I don't think they do

I disagree with most on Dujon Sterling. I haven’t seen one performance that suggests he can play anywhere other than at RB. He doesn’t have football intelligence, can’t see situations developing, forever switches off and is a bit of a dreamer. He needs the simplicity of playing consistently as a RB. Then I believe he will be an asset to this team.

Rodgers’ 1st season at the filth was the invincible season. I really worried at the time if we could ever a title again, just as now we fear that this season could be a repeat. In his second season there was a major drop off in league form (24 points). We have been runners up many times with a higher points total. It is a truism that teams have a lifecycle. Our current woes stem from the 55 team going beyond its natural lifecycle combined with woeful recruitment . The Manky Mob are now in the 4th year of the Postecoglou cycle. Perhaps the natural lifespan of a team plus Rodgers’ shortcomings as a boss might see them decline a year or so from now. Remember in our post Treble season under McLeish O’Neill’s side picked up over a 100 points yet the following season they showed serious cracks which lead to Helicopter Sunday. I am scunnered and devoid of Hope at present, but I remember feeling the same way at many points in the noughties.

How can we expect boys like barron, jefte, igamane to do well in these games? They should be able to lean on the leadership in the team to help guide them through these games. Guys like tav, dessers can barely get themselves through the game nevermind help these youngsters, what chance do these boys have?

Heart and Hand

Absolutely 100% correct and been a failing of ours for a while. They can't look to the leaders for help because the leaders need it too.

Revan1872

We had offers for other players like Morelos, Kent, Borna but turned them down and then yes you are correct when we did sell players the ones we bought were in large the wrong profile for any kind of player trading both in terms of age and ability

Clement was slaughtered for mentioning the Ross County result after Sunday’s debacle. To be fair thumping wins over the “jobber” teams is something we haven’t made a habit of in recent seasons, whilst that lot have. Aberdeen are being praised as Scotland’s form team (along with the filth) but they only beat Ross County with a 98th minute goal having survived a goal disallowed by VAR and a penalty miss. Either the Sheep are not as good as made out, or perhaps or result v the Staggies shouldn’t be dismissed so readily.

David Kiltie

Had we had the same fixtures as the Sheep we would likely have maximum points. With an Old Firm game usually the 4th game of the season we are not going to have such a favorable start to the season.
