Basically, in structural terms we are a very poorly coached team … but Clement must stay ….???

C. J

I think we’ve had long enough to know now that this isn’t going to work out for Clement. He’s our Ten Hag, it’s a matter of time. The patterns of play required to dominate a league are just not there, they’re not even emerging.

Greg Paterson

Adam + Ally love the show really informative and great to get some context to what we see game to game. One question, not sure if it’s something that’s been covered on the show before and I have forgotten apologises if so. How does this style of play we have mirror what Clement implemented at Club Brugge and the other teams where he has seen success? Are we seeing him “evolve” his style or are we just seeing a situation where players who aren’t as good as what he worked with previously trying to do roles they aren’t physically or technically able to do? Thanks again

David Docherty

Another excellent show if depressing. I simply don't understand why all the flaws that you can see are not addressed by Clement and his team. It makes zero sense and it hurts my head thinking about it.

Greg

Thanks for the heads up, I'll give it another few days before I listen, most pods on here have been a struggle to listen to the last while.

Guys I have been saying since mid March this year that a clement side is a collection of hit and hope tactics Nothing flows or is joined up Our 6 at times is the deepest player on the park against st Johnstone That alone is bonkers

Spoon

Spot on comment. I just don’t think regardless of what Clement thinks the end state of this team looks like it will work effectively in Scotland. We don’t want embarrassed in Europe but I would give up being decent there to be excellent domestically. You can have excellent individuals in an average team or average individuals coached to be excellent as a team. We seem to be neither. Biggest issue for me recently js what are we actually coaching and who is doing it ? Reality bites with this pod.

Alistair Bain

I think weve always approached these shows with an open mind, trying to remove bias and figure out the “why” behind what we see. Hopefully alot of the analysis isnt as much about opinion as a cold analysis of whats working and whats not.

If we play the way we are and get 25 more wins 1 nil and win the Lge nobody cares. However, the problem is that ain't going to be the case. We need to get a way of playing with the players way we have which improves our levels. I doubt that happens. To me it appears Clement will keep going with the 'square pegs in round holes' theory and its going to be a continually tough watch.

Graeme Guthrie

My biggest issue is identifying a specific profile or role we need, then playing them out of position. We brought Bajrami in as a 10, but he's playing wide left. Surely we'd have been better just profiling a wide left player in that case.

Gazza G

Oh dear. I was desperate for you guys to reassure me that Clement knew what he was doing and it was just going to take time to bed in. Now I am thoroughly dejected.

Alistair Bain

Id love him to be the man mate, we all would. Like a player whos going through poor form, it can change if they have the ability of self reflection and self analysis. Coaching works the same way

Alistair Bain

Not sure about Brugge to be honest Greg. Its something ill have to look into. At Monaco there was some initial success, but after his best players were sold there was quite a bit of burying his head in the sand tactically, continuing to play the same way despite poor results. No two situations are the same however, but the pattern isnt promising if im honest.

Ross Whitehead

So to summarise: our recruitment has been hit and miss, our players aren't very good and don't match our tactics, which don't make much sense anyway. Hello darkness my old friend...

Heart and Hand

So what you’re saying is we should go to a 4-4-2 with a big guy/wee guy combo up front?

Alistair Bain

Four centre halves, 3 central midfielders (1 off the right) and a tricky winger off the left, big guy/wee guy combination up front. The club went to pot when we stopped doing this! Coincidence 🤷🏻‍♂️ I think not

Spoon

All kidding aside David, the modern manager is desperate to be seen as technical and innovative yet lots now slavishly follow the guru managers like Pep. That’s fine when you have top tier players and unlimited cash, harder when your squad has flaws and limitations. True innovation for me would be looking at an unorthodox formation and set up, looking at specifically what works domestically and using our buying power (compared to rest of league) to maximise something like a 433 or 442. The question around the club however to me remains the coaching, not since the Gerrard set up have I felt like we have proper specialists doing roles to enhance players. Set pieces, fitness, tactical flexibility even the red zone stuff is now a bit opaque when Clement talks about guys where with Gerard’s team it was clear. Clement doesnt help himself with his comments, some might be lost in translation but some is just manager gibberish. I would just love to see us go a bit old school. Go a bit more physical and solid but most importantly shop local and actually develop talent.

Ryan Stewart

Massive month ahead for Clement. We need to start seeing performances as well as results. I don’t want to hear anymore about players just being in the building or about them learning the story. We play some of the most basic football you’ll ever see, it’s not that hard to adjust to. Said himself we will see the best of this team come October/November, well let’s see it then

Jamiedfa

Great pod and spot on, especially with todays result, great to have Ally back!
