James, thought Jefte was positive, willing to get forward and had some excellent link up on the wing. He was always getting forward and a willing runner. My memory of game was that he won the majority of his tackles and duels but I might be biased and seeing what I want to see, didn’t remember him losing the ball too often, he may well have made a few wayward passes but in this team who doesn’t! Raskin hits his man about one pass in 5 but he rightly is praised for his tackling and recovery work, Jefte at his age has been the find of the window for me, I would include Nana in that but as he isn’t ours and I’m not someone who gets excited about a loan. Love Jeftes athleticism, appetite and dig which I thought he and Kasawirjo both showed today. Given the calamity at CB I think it’s to both Nana and Jefte credit they did so well. Btw I agree that the personnel up front is an issue, but I absolutely think we aren’t helping it with set up or expectation on whoever is the 9. Even moving Bajrami into a 10 and letting him link up would help spread the load. Just think given how for many Dessers is the issue end of you see today that young Ig struggled to collect and control the ball against a full backline between him and goal, you noticed as well (bar Jefte) that few went beyond him or the winger to offer support. Dessers had a bit more joy when he came on and I thought was more physical than he normally is but he isn’t the long term answer, not for a single striker formation certainly. I remain convinced that adding Shankland to our front line at 9 or 10 would have changed things significantly and while I hope Ig kicks on I would have used that £2m to go and get Shankland for his bite and physicality which we sadly lack.

Poor performance, missed tav and dessers , particularly Tavs drive . Middle three of Raskin Barron and Diomande appeared flat , lacked flair , although Raskin was decent and Diomande scored . We also missed Lawrence , propper big question marks from me. Got bullied and battered all day . Igamane has potential but he’s not ready to start. A 30min impact player at this stage of his career . Positives Cerny performance and three points We swiftly move on. A performance to forget , the trouble is. I said that many times already this seasons and we are just 8-9 games in.

Fair points on Jefte, I think this is precisely the benefit of open discussions on these as I suspect I’ve viewed him on the basis of knowing what he can do and being hyper critical of his mistakes, but I think we are both coming at it from the pov that we rate him and want him to do well, it’s interesting to see the angles we come at that from! Oh what I would give for a different formation, Kasanwirjo would be great as a CB in a back three.

I could see him excelling as a 6 to be honest and letting Barron / Raskin or Dio play up one, his no nonsense tackling and simple passing could put us up the field by 10-20 yards as a starting position and still give the defence cover. We are crying out for 2 up front though as while I fully accept the limitations of our strikers giving them some help and support seems a no brainier, even just having the presence of two in the box would make opponents think twice, we are far far too easy and predictable to mark or squeeze out a game.
