Simon

Completely aligned with Laura and Alan. We’re not happy clappers, we’re stoic realists

Rob Erskine

Thanks Laura and Alan. It’s good to know that I’m not alone!

JimGLW

I don't see what the hope that we are in a rebuild is based on. I don't see us going in a postive direction with signs of progress I am afraid.

CJT

Common sense comments on the overall position. Will never catch on 😜. The spiral of rub it out and start again needs to end. We need to recognise that building a team for a club in our position in a FFP world is not an overnight activity. It is long-term incremental progression towards achieving an overall vision. I get that vision, if it exists, is not overly visible either in style of play or buy in from players but sacking a manager to get better results next month at the expense of long term development will only result in the yet another backwards step. By far the biggest issue is the lack of an exec team to keep us focused on what we need to achieve. Fixing that is much more important than the manager’s position at this point. Really no point in picking a new manager now if the approach/vision is to change in the coming months with fresh leadership off the park. If at that point the club don’t think PC is the right fit then move him on, but only with the profile defined and ideally the guy that fits that profile lined up. On PC I have some sympathy. With no discernible leadership from elsewhere he’s the only voice we hear and he’s trying to keep players on side and follow the party line. In effect he’s taking the flack for the whole shambles we are as a club. Is he right man long/term, who knows but a temp appointment at this stage gets us nowhere other than pacifying supporters in the short term and postponing any real development until next season. Getting in a new permanent manager with no exec team in place just sounds like madness. By the way I’m as frustrated with the performances as anyone else. I get the lack of flexibility in approach and aggression/ pace in the style of play. I also think the players brought in weren’t the standard PC wanted or likely was promised when he gutted the squad (what we all wanted) . It is what we could get with the restrictions placed on finances by FFP and the steel debacle. I also understand a weak board trying to dodge the ire of supporters may feel differently should Pittodrie and the following results not go well.

Nice to hear some different voices, fair play to Simon on getting Alan Bradley, he's a pretty big wheel down at RTV these days!

Alan Bradley

😂 Pretty soon, although I’m only allowed to use blue crayons, definitely nothing too sharp.

Dougie

We can expect being beaten by Killie as it a 'transitional season'? Standards have been lowered. Yes it is unrealistic ro expect the title with so many new players. But we should expect some indication of progress in performances. There just isn't. St Mirren performance was awful. Propper looks a cross between Cribari and Svensson.

Alan Bradley

Sadly performances have been poor, Killie was horrible and St Mirren, was more a case of grinding out 3 points. At this stage though, 3 points regardless of performance will do for me. During the remainder of the season, no doubt we will have some more horrible performances, grinding out 3 points and occasional good wins / much more pleasing on the eye games. Hopefully as things go forward it’ll be more of the latter than the former, that in my opinion will then give us evidence of improvement and a positive transition. Standards are definitely below acceptable levels at the moment, the sooner CEO, Chairman, Director of Football (if that’s the route we take) are sorted the better. More financial stability also a given too to take away uncertainty and give time for strategy to be agreed and implemented.

Jim Milne

I'll listen to the pod later but player of the week would be 1 of 3: Barron, Raskin or Cerny. Probably Cerny on account of how important his goals were.

John Hood

Sanity prevails from Laura and Alan. Wholeheartedly agree with everything they say. Been supporting Rangers for 60 years and thought I'd heard it all from so called 'supporters' in terms of negativity. There's a right bunch of idiots out there atm claiming to be Gers fans - thought they were bad over in the east side of Glasgow but they're on a different level!

ManU have just sacked ETH … once the whiff of failure whafts in, its just a matter of time

The issue for me is the idea this rebuild just rolls on, we have been asked to buy into a rebuild by the last four managers. SG at least delivered a title then got bored of the fake rebuild. GVB didn’t get any money or players of his own, Beale was a bin fire but spent a fortune and Clement might have a plan but as it stands it doesn’t look like it works well enough in Scotland to deliver. At some point the rebuild cycle has to deliver and then you build on it. The board and manager might just have arrived but the support have now seen over a decade of “it will be ok in a year” or “it’s a three year plan” type chat from the club when little has really changed and it all looks a bit like being fobbed off. Optimism doesn’t happen in a vacuum or it’s happy clapping, the fans need the club to actually give them something to believe in even if it starts as imperfect. Seeing growth brings optimism, progress off or in the park brings optimism, year on year saying it’s fine and will be better in a month, two months or by October insults our intelligence. The lack of tangible progress is what’s causing the concern not fans negativity or desperation to be negative. It’s just gaslighting to make out having a an opinion or concerns makes you a “so called fan” or invalidates a view.

James McSween

He needs to win a must win game now. If we don’t win on Wednesday then he should be told to go.

Jim Milne

Good listen. I found Alan's and Laura's views opposite to mine, although I do appreciate and respect their opinions and the evidence they gave. My issues are Clement has been here a year and in that time I can't say I've seen any player improved in that time. Good managers improve players. Other issues I have is continuously playing with a #10 when we don't have everyone fit. He seems determined to play the same for Marion of 4-3-1-2 even if it means playing players out of position rather than accommodate and play to the players and squads strengths on that day. I still don't know what his style of play is. He bemoaned Beale's preseason last year yet our players don't look any fitter. I was expecting Gerrard levels of running the way he spoke last year. Finally, I know he hasn't had the best support but he's spent around £20m when you include loan fees, etc. that's the same as GVB & Beale. I'm just not seeing it, he's known since he came in we needed a striker and he has signed a bit from Morocco who has potential when we needed someone to come in and contribute more. £2.5m for storing defender for the Bteam and Propper. I'd rather have had a £4m defender who is stronger than both seem to be. He came here with the mantra of playing youth, again another expectation I feel he hasn't reached. We don't seem to have a spine in the team and judging by his signings so far I'm not sure we will under Clement. Most fans would accept transitional if we weren't 6 points off the top after 9 games and he had managed a win against that lot in the last 12 months. The fact we all seem to think he's on a shoogly peg and a poor resukt on Wednesday intensifies this, that says it all. 1 way goal in the league and uninspiring football as well as the reasons listed leads me to the conclusion he can't turn this around and I'd rather get in a Scottish manager who will sign Scottish players who knows how to play in our league. What I want is a Big Eck style manager right now, and apart from McInnes I'm not sure there is one out there

Hendi

Absolutely spot on Laura, and Alan. We need to look at bigger picture and not be overly focused on the here and now. It's too easy to moan and we have plenty of frustrations to focus on, but we need to look at the bigger picture. Nobody is trying to tell anyone this is easy to watch, it's the worst I've seen in years, but it's about taking 1 or 2 steps back to be able to go forward.

Hendi

Check the wage bill for signs of progress. Check the age profile of the squad for signs of progres. Check the number of players who would command a transfer fee if they left for signs of progress.

JimGLW

Agreed. how much would we make if we decided to sell Propper, Igamane, Cortes, Dio? That's about £13mil. So what we getting back for that? If that's a metric of of progress. Id be astounded if it was half of what we paid.

Spoon

Your spot on Hendi, we have done very little in terms of any progress. Wage bill far higher than the quality of player we have, miles beyond anyone else bar one team in the division and over reliant on loans. Age profile all over the place, some potential, some kids who haven’t progressed and some well past their sell by. As for transfer value or fees, we tell ourselves we capture talent but genuinely who in this squad are you suggesting is worth significant money? I am pretty sure the highest value asset we had in a recent article or on a site I saw was Tav ? Over half our squad who might realise a fee are injured like Danilo a guy who hasn’t kicked a ball in anger and might never make any level of contribution to match the £6m and wages shelled out. The guys we pretend are worth money never are, we had folk talking millions for Cantwell recently and we got buttons as outwith our bubble the players we have are utterly bang average. If bringing the wage build down is a sign of progress then I respectfully suggest it points to down sizing more than stunning football acumen. Sorry bud but 10 years of mismanagement of the squad hasn’t stopped this year it’s ongoing.

Alan Bradley

Some decent and valid points there Jim. Clearly we’ll differ, but similar to your comments, respect and appreciate your take on things. Great that unlike other forums, within the H&H community we can openly share different views whilst respecting one another in the process. Fingers crossed for a positive result on Wednesday and that shoogly peg, holds onto things for a considerable time yet.

Angus Mackay

Thanks Simon, great pod. Fantastic contribution by guests Laura and Alan, we badly need that kind of rational realism. As someone who saw the 80s too I couldn’t agree with Alan more; we need to stay behind the team and manager, even if it is a slog through the mud short term. . One of the reasons I’m behind the manager is his determination to do the right thing for the medium to long term, even though it means short term pain, that’s the only way we get back to competing. He’s not perfect, but big picture he’s the right guy

Angus Mackay

ETH got two and a half years. And that was starting with his own players from scratch and over half a billion pounds spent. Clement has had four months with his own players so far; with respect, no-one in their right is coming to a club that sacks managers in those circumstances.

Angus Mackay

I can’t quite match your sixty years John, but I wholeheartedly agree. The panic, fear and madness in the support at the moment is something I don’t recognise at all.

Jim Milne

I will gladly hold my hand up and say I was wrong. In fact it would please me to be wrong. I don't enjoy this, none of us do. WATP.
