Hoggy is back from London and back on Hamper duties (many thanks to Cammy and Simon for last week).

We could talk of games from the past, of bygone days...... but the here and now dominates. Including "what if Hoggy got the job?" I shudder to think!

No fence, we are all drowning in the amount of crap we are watching.

Billy Forrester

Mcinnes knocked us back however we do not know the reasons for that, there was obviously something and we do not know the facts. It’s defensive route 1 bollocks as that’s the budget he has been working in, I think we would certainly be not as easy to play through if Del Mcinnes was in charge

Brett

I think the fan want for McInnes was so strong at the time, and the board were working towards Gerrard, that we low balled him and made him an offer he could only refuse - just my thoughts. Think if the board said they were looking at Gerrard when they were the fans would have been raging, when they announced him in the summer and everything had died down from the previous season, we were all excited.

Robert Reid

I'd go Mcinness, we need someone who knows Scottish football and what it is to be at Rangers, we lack that in changing room just now, if you look at foreign managers only Advocate was successful and we've nowhere near the money to emulate that, any decent English manager is going to be hard to get in our position either; and they'll leave after any sort of good spell for the premiership.

Brett

The system is a mess, big difference between Clements and Warburtons is there was at least a plan with Warburton. I couldn’t tell you what Clement is doing with this team

Tamus

I would take Warnock for 6 months

Hendi

How can you believe the league is recoverable? Pep couldn't win the league with this squad, in this set up, even if it was level on points. Teams with worse players in every position don't prevail over teams with better players in every position over the course of a season.

Brian Rae

As you mentioned Hoggy, Aberdeen got rid of McInnes due to his style of play and was ultimately deemed not good enough for Aberdeen, why in 2024 should we consider him? Like 2017, That would be a panic appointment. If we did appoint him, the fans would quickly turn after a few bad results as many would be unconvinced by his appointment, myself included. If we're speaking about replacements, a compromise on that type of manager would be David Moyes, for safe and steady, that would be my choice. Would he want it or could we afford it? I don't know. IMO, the issue that firstly needs to be addressed is the shit show behind the scenes, get experienced, competent people in all of the executive roles and sort the boardroom out and then we can look at the footballing department. Otherwise we are just continuing the cycle of the last 3 years. I've been critical of this board for years and I'm now glad that many now see the incompetence that is taking place and has been in full view for years. They are effectively being glorified for putting their own money in and receiving interest on this investment, that's fair enough, what isn't fair though, is their incompetence and habit of burning through said money on poor decision after poor decision. It really does need to stop now.

Allan Fowler

I'd go with Bid Eck until the summer with Kev Thomson and Neil McCann assisting.

Hoggy, thank you enjoyed the chat. I want Clement out. Im done with him, he’s delusional and taking us backwards day by day. We are a joke and he is in denial. I would have McInnes in as soon as we can get him. I dont want another project / foreign coach, have no appetite for another set of fantasy tactics that the latest pep lite wants to install. Time to go back to core domestic success markers, Scottish manager, players and style that is effective in this league. I accept the argument on McInnes style but I firmly believe that with more resources and assets at his disposal we would see a better brand of football still grounded in being hard to beat, solid and physical. If he has had success with the same set up and strategy at multiple clubs with different finances his approach would appear to be transferable and has the capacity to scale up with the increased resources we could provide. Being industrial as it’s what brings the highest percentage chance for success is fine, it’s pragmatic and something our managers have lacked recently. There is also hopefully a chance to get a guy like McCann or KT into that set up. McInnes knows the league, knows the local market, know the expectations and we need to bin the scorned lover nonsense he is by far the best candidate. One thing he wont give us is the financial gap, weather, pitches, time to settle tripe that we get from the current manager. The failure to secure Shankland last season sums up for me the utter thrawness of the manager and club. Im not trying to pretend that he is perfect but for what we needed at that time he was the perfect fit as close to our budget (or certainly we seemed to have funds for other players far less effective) as we were going to get. The chat recently about just getting in a guy who can do a job NOW is exactly what Shankland would have given us. Goals, physicality, leadership, drive, furniture already made, house already bought, visa not required, fit and conditioned all in one package. He would not only have improved our frontline alone, I believe he improves those around him and would have also solved the 10 problem. Our take on it, nah too expensive, to domestic and boring, not good enough for Europe (as thats the priority) and the manager wasn’t that impressed with him …… the mind boggles. This squad benefits from the fans focus on a few scapegoats. While it’s immensely popular to bash Dessers or Tav this just means the others who are also of questionable pedigree or output get off the hook. I think the majority of players are of a similar level, deeply flawed players in the main but there are certainly many in there who are exposed more than others due to the car crash system the manager uses or the role he forces them to perform despite their inability to do it week in week out. The recent talk around people not doing their jobs, making the runs or passing to players within the squad is kids stuff. IF we genuinely have players deciding when and when not to play, to pass or to run because they are in the huff with a guy its Armageddon and the club is totally finished. It anathema to me that team members dont do their bit and work to undermine the manager or team mates. If we are at that point then its anarchy, the bigger issue is no person in that team has earned the right to point at a team mate and chin them as none of them are playing well and have an absolute neck blaming anyone else. I would like to just briefly return to the GVB discussion. I tend to think you summed it up fairly Hoggy but many misremember the circumstances that led to him being assassinated. GVB was acknowledged at the time to be the first guy saddled with a squad which had too much player power, was jaded and past its best and needed investment. That’s part of why SG left. GVB had a style, had an ability to change a game and to my mind was hamstrung by the players available and injuries which were the worst in the clubs history. He was working with far far worse than Clement is. GVB was given zero players he wanted and then in an absolutely disgraceful board was backstabbed and replaced by Beale. Something that is a stain on how we consider ourselves as a club. The way he was ushered out was an absolutely travesty. Given time and investment similar to Gerrard which he was also no doubt promised I am confident that a guy who was a pen away from winning a Euro trophy could have improved us. Time for change, the board must get in professionals to stabilise the business and appoint recruitment specialist to get a manager in, my preference is McInnes but if its not him and there is better out there for our batshit crazy league then so be it. I would bite your hand off for McInnes now, I would get him in asap. The board should be mortified there utter incompetence is in the public eye for all to see. Successful business people, possibly but they way they are killing the club is closer to the spivs way of doing things than we are comfortable admitting, if you destroy something that you love is it any better (or in some ways worse) than allowing a charlatan to destroy it…..either way its getting wrecked.

He also wont blame the weather, the pitches, the wage gap, Ikea not having the furniture in a new player wanted or any of that nonsense. He isnt perfect but he starts with a level of knowledge of the league, football, player market and expectations that others dont have and some never get. Clement read the brochure and thinks we are a club who do well in Europe with a tight budget didn’t read the page on the Domestic football and how its totally different but is ACTUALLY what the fans care about.

David Clapperton

My biggest worry if the manager does have to be removed and we get a caretaker in is that, in my view, it’s almost inevitable that whoever the caretaker is they’ll eventually end up getting the job full time. Caretakers by nature are out of work and affordable so that’s an easy win for the board. These players have proven over and over again they respond to a new voice and there’s always an upturn in their performances and results at first, so that will lead to a clamour for “this guy’s doing great, give him the job full time”. Another easy win for the board. It’s Ole Gunner Solskjaer in a blue tie waiting to happen.

John Davidson

Without wishing to sound ungrateful for their investment, surely one of the main jobs of the board is to get the club into such a position of financial security that it is not dependent on their personal funding to keep us afloat? We can't continue to blame 2012.

Graham Roy

Mcinnes no his team relies on physicality which we do not have

Graham Roy

Does he not have a pretty serious medical issue at the moment or am i remembering wrong? If not would love Eck in short term!

Jim Milne

Good listen Hoggy. At the start of the week I was all for backing Clement even if we got beat, but his comments after the game as well as his lack of ability to play different tactics etc is the straw that's broke this camels back. I don't think even if Motherwell win tomorrow that the board will act. We have no structure at the club and the people who should make the decision, CEO etc are probably roles that Clement/Koppen are filling off the park. I'm against caretakers but let's be honest here we are going to take a battering from Spurs and Man Utd & them at New Year or LCF. Do we want those results being blamed on a new manager? We need a caretaker who cares. I don't know who that is because players usually don't perform for caretakers. I just want a time machine to go back 3 years and boot Douglas Park & Stewart Robertson squarely in the baws.

Gordon McCool

I’m in neither the stay, go or on the fence camp. I’m in the broken to the point of it doesn’t matter as the next guy will get a bounce then the same culprits will get that guy the sack this time next year. Utter devastated at this point.

Barry Kerr

Disagree with John we are just delaying the inevitable with Clement. The fact we have no permanent chairman or CEO is saving him at the moment. Our budgets still dwarf that of Aberdeen Kilmarnock etc and we have a manager that has zero idea how to beat them. We are an uncoached mess with zero tactical plan other than either hoof it long or go wide and hope for the best it's why we don't score anywhere near enough goals never mind create enough chances to win matches.
