Well, that hurts. Colin and David reflect on today's events.

Comments

Andy sawers

Desser and dowell need to leave in the next window. Both attacking players and shit their pants in the shoot out.

David Innes

Fair play for doing this guys - what an absolute sickener that was

White Family

Maybe it's time for the bears to let Beaton know what we think when he's in tesco or wherever as this works well for the scum. Also taxi for dessers and replaced with better striker we might be on to something if we get a Soti/Marvin defender in.

Colin paterson

Absolutely shite getting beat but penalties are a lottery, was nothing in the game, they got a fright tonight. On to the next game

james whyte

Battled, fought, gave their all. Wasted some great situations - Balogun not playing in Igamanae. 4 on 1 and no shot away is criminal. Ref and Var a joke as per. Feels like same old once more. Jan 2nd now pivotal for Clement I reckon. Cheers for doing this lads. Can't be easy 🔴⚪️🔵

John Smith

Appreciate you doing this boys. Sickened doesn’t do what I’m feeling justice. What I would say is firstly I’m proud of the players and the coaching staff. To a man we stood up to be counted today. Not many people would have predicted that a few weeks ago. Secondly however, our new Chairman & CEO must take this as an opportunity to start calling out VAR. Every single conversation with the ref in that booth should be posted automatically after every game. Why the urge to stop that happening ? I think we all know.

Alan Stewart

Absolutely devastated. Butland taking a penalty tells me everything about certain members of this squad. Fucking cowards.

Gary Staff

It’s getting beyond a joke now how many times we are done over by the officials.

Jordan McKay

I have tried so so hard to defend Dessers but that penalty shootout is the last straw for me. How a striker can either 1) be inferior at penalties to a left back and a GOALKEEPER, or 2) not have the mentality to take one of the first five penalties in a cup final against that lot Is utterly ridiculous. He needs to be moved on in January.

Rona Bluebell

Fuckity fuck is the only comment I can muster

GAZ1872

There is still dead wood in that team needs to Dessers Dowell tav ? Yilmaz? Proper ? Dessers was very poor it’s just sad 😔🔴⚪️🔵🇬🇧🇬🇧

GAZ1872

Need to be removed in January 🔴⚪️🔵🇬🇧🇬🇧

Spoon

We can point at refs, var, make scapegoats of the usual players and pretend ‘everything’s fine’ but the reality is it’s not good enough. If this is good enough then welcome to being second for a long time. We aren’t now so many games away from consistently winning against them the odd win doesn’t even matter anymore. Not good enough in 90 and zero time for the penalty witch hunt nonsense. You pick your 5 and they score or they don’t, who those 5 are is purely subjective and it never ‘has’ to be any player, we win 5-4 and one of them miss nobody cares a jot who scored, it’s pure projection.

James Anderson

Great performance from the manager and the team. I do not see why the "referee" does not ask the VAR if he has the decision correct, however it was Frank Connor on the VAR.

George Higgins

Very proud of the players. Manager got the tactics right. The extra two days rest they got showed in extra time. Our new CEO must publically call for an explanation why VAR didn’t call Beaton to the monitor. If nothing else it’ll get the fans on board.

David Innes

We don’t know if they shat it - could have been the manager’s decision but I agree they need to go along with a few others

Simon Lewandowski

thought we were very good today it shows what a bit of fight and heart can do we need to talk about our keepers display in that shootout though...I thought he was awful he never looked like saving one he basically fell to the opposite side the ball went 4 times out of 5 I have no confidence in him when it comes to penalties

David Innes

Keepers taking pens is becoming more common- that’s not the thing to be focusing on today imo

Alan Weir

Proud of the team’s performance today. Minor point perhaps, but why was Schmeicel allowed to stand right in front of every Rangers penalty taker and verbally abuse them? Should the ref not have told the big prick to go from the edge of the box straight onto the goalline? Or Beaton too scared…yet again?

Andy sawers

They shat it or they would have taken 1. The manager isn't going to tell your number 9 don't bother we've got ridvan and butland instead

Alan Stewart

It might be the drink but that tells me a lot about the players. Our 4.5m striker should have been putting himself forward. He was that far back he was at Rutherglen Cross. Ignore me, I’m hurting.

Maca82

A 6m pound striker not taking a pen suggests the lottery is less of a lottery and more about having a set of stones, we have backed the big man more than he’s deserved but it’s over for him. Once again VAR comes to Celtics rescue as it did on a number of occasions last season albeit this time not used as oppose to scrutinised. The doxing of refs from that mob has killed the level playing field

Martin Davies

It feels like getting repeatedly punched in the stomach watching us in cup games at Hampden. The officials are a disgrace. Its either serious incompetence or blatant cheating, neither of which are acceptable. But focusing on us, we lost a couple of poor goals, and we always take the wrong choice in attacking positions. And the quality drop off when making subs was noticeable.

Jim McCutcheon

Gutted 🤷‍♂️, Raskin again brilliant imo , hard to break down need time on that , thanks guys 👍

Declan Cairns

I’m just in a state of findin it very difficult to feel proud when this is just what rangers are when Celtic are lining up against them. Incapable of getting the job done. Not a single win against them in what 18 months now? And not a single one of note in at least 2 years. This is rangers of the last 3 years and now statistically, we are 2nd best. What can you say to defend that.

Boyd

Officials who fail in their duty have to be properly punished. Beaton was the 12th man for them

Jamie Robb

Another old firm game where a big game changing decision wrongly goes their way

John Jamieson

Unforgivable for me for desser to not be taking the responsibility for the shootout. Team gave us everything they had and deserved better

Gary Shaw

So many times we picked the wrong option when all it took was one pass and we were in…..They just have that bit more quality and their decision making in forward areas is a lot better……Igamane looked heavy legged from the get go but it took Dessers all of about 5 seconds to understand why the manager held off for as long as he could before bringing him on….

Steven L

Big week fail again

David

Scunnered that we cant seem to beat them even when they were poor

MARK DRIVER

Just another game where we fail to get it over the line, Clemant has still not won a game against Celtic and Tav’s record is woeful Brilliant that we showed fight but another group that have now lost together, cracking habit to be in yet again

Simon Botterill

Brilliant footballing performance by a lot of the team, I can't knock the desire of the players. How Hagi and Raskin could keep going through the 120 minutes was beyond me. On the other side, you have to find a way to win and lines must be crossed, this remains a challenge. - McGregor runs the ref, why is this allowed? - Why do we not appeal for anything including a clear penalty? - Why are our penalty takers not protected? Why is Butland not behaving similar? - Unless Dessers was injured, he should not be allowed to play again. He left a weak left footed striker of a ball to take a penalty. - Until we bring in Thompson or a Ferguson the culture will remain too meek. This has to change. - Change in Comms, we can't be us anymore on VAR etc, they don't play to the rules. Proud of the players but the culture of how we tackle Scottish football (which is toxic and completely different to Europe) remains the same, we will come up short.

David Docherty

I'm going to try and be positive after that. Definitely progress and we can all see things that need to improve but I think Clement can also. We need rid of Dessers and Dowell they are symbolic of the Beale era. Matondo also. Proud of the team

Simon Botterill

But a weak footed left back just back from injury over the man wearing the number 9, disgraceful

Nikky Cairney

Feel as though we are accepting another failure from Clement in a big game. The simple fact is we again found a way to lose against Celtic. We done ok in the Scottish cup final in May but again we lost. It’s 7 months on and the same is happening. We aren’t going to win under Clement with this style of football. Long ball after long ball and trying to win second balls. Totally fed up of watching this type of play. Celtic were miles off it today and we still couldn’t win. He is asking Raskin and Diomande to cover far too much ground for this system to be successful. Dessers not stepping up before Yilmaz or Butland is a disgrace. I’d throw Dowell into that aswell as he got a good left foot and is an attacking player. Dessers shouldn’t step foot on the park for us again. Absolute shitebag.

John Hood

Scheduling of today's game where we get 2 days rest and they get 4 days is borderline corruption.

David Whyte

The goals we conceded again today were absolutely criminal. If you keep giving them goals you make it very hard to beat them

David Watson

The new CEO needs to compile a package of clips of all the '50/50' decisions that have gone against us in OF games, since the 2019 LC final, and release it to the media. Make a big fucking point. Let the football world at large see what's going on. Take the Scottish MSM flack - who gives a shit?

Tamus

You can't force people to take penalties but you can force them out the door Get the cnut dropped into the u/21s Get him training on his own Get him to fuck Coward A coward on £100,000 pm Shitebag Shitebag Shitebag

David_Davy_Dave

A few points on the refereeing (indulge my vent) We had 8 bookings to 3. That’s not credible and it impacts the game. A number of times Rangers players were booked for their first challenge (from memory Balogun and Dessers). The most outrageous was Balogun. I watched in real time and McGregor runs over and Beaton clearly says “No, first foul”. It might seem a trivial point but it’s inexplicable therefore 60 secs later he books him. Maybe I sound OTT but I’d be asking for the audio on that because I believe VAR with no authority intervenes Am I being paranoid? Well we are only 1 year on from Collum deliberately telling lies over the Johnson hand ball That brings us to the penalty. Again it is simply not credible that such an important call is made by VAR so quickly. Being very generous therefore at best it again speaks to a culture of seeking to make a decision that avoids angering Celtic So the SFA have a major issue because a week from now there will be the inevitable “oops sorry” video with Collum and the lad from Clyde Is this sour grapes? Maybe. Refereeing is having a material impact on these games and we should not let up moaning from now til the 2nd of Jan Finally watch the pens back. It’s not just that Schmichael is on the pen spot for every kick he is actually in the penalty box shouting at Butland for at least one of their pens

Simon Botterill

We did nothing. Why has a member of the match day 'team' not addressed this. Our strategic tactics are pathetic. It's not still 1995. When will we get this stuff

Scott Corral

Needing a bigger impact from the subs. None of the 3 that came on never added anything to the game to help us out.

Douglas Innes

We need players to get in the refs ears , these c*it's are light years ahead of us in the dark arts

Kenneth Mackay

As ever, Scottish referees make “mistakes” that allow Celtic to beat Rangers in a cup final. Law 12 is clear and unequivocal. VAR should have intervened. Cheated yet again. Horrendous, unacceptable, we HAVE to stand up and say something,

Kenneth Mackay

Celtic referee these games. There’s no accountability for the “mistakes” that let them win.

Gordon Millar

In a week where energy reserves are tested to the limit, our squad depth leaves us short in players that can come on and influence and maintain the energy levels you need to get a cup final over the line....gutted....on the other hand we need to be positive about the progress made over the last 4 weeks....

Alan Weir

I know he gets blamed for everything, but surely Tav, as captain, has to be using that position to question and demand answers from referees, rather than timidly watching from afar.

David Kiltie

You can criticize players for not having the nerve to take penalties but if a player is not confident he will most likely miss.

Douglas Innes

Their use of the dark arts is light years ahead of us , all game Beaton quite happy to chat to any cemtc players whilst our players meekly accept it , what schmichael was doing was against the rules in the euros why doesn't beaton act on it . Refs are lame and love being fluffed by celtc

Vanb bryceter

3 weeks ago nobody gave us a chance in this final. Since then there has been a marked improvement period. Clement gets the season for me he deserves another transfer window and see where he gets us. We will make up ground in the league for sure Europe will take care of itself and we have to win the Scottish cup as a minimum for him to keep his job imo

Simon Botterill

Beaton was actually shouting at our players. We are mental we don't work on any of this, it's basics of any business / project and evaluate your environment and adapt. I am so sick of the lack of culture

David Kiltie

The authorities would have known before the season began that the filth would be in the Champions League for certain and odds on we would be in the Europa League. Scheduling the final on this weekend meant a very high possibility that it would be to their advantage. Last year both the Sheep and ourselves were playing a final soon after Europa League ties.

David_Davy_Dave

I am inclined to agree We are at the point where we should be willing to accept any disrepute charges or what have you VAR can be proactive and rewind our goals for any infringement yet that penalty decision is made in a matter of seconds with no delay to play? It’s not credible

Simon Botterill

Our constant position has been to do nothing. We think it's a fair fight. This stuff is so obvious but we don't manage on field or off.

Bryan Watson

Didn't think either side were all that today. Danilo and Kuhn goals probably the only real bits of quality and even then Kuhn's goal should be chopped for a foul on Diomande. Its a penalty on Cerny all day long and as angry as we all are at it absolutely fuck all will come of it - same AR as the Juillen goal and the ghost foul on Lagerbielke but aye theres a big pro Rangers conspiracy, work that one out. New chairman and CEO have to be stronger on these things and would be good if we actually had a proper communications department headed by a seasoned comms and PR professional to create narratives instead of a boy who did the interviews for RTV being our head of comms lol (no offence to Nick Thompson but he is so far off it). We are so far behind them in that regard its unreal and proper winds me up. Im sure the 5 were chosen before the game but tells you everything when your goalie is taking a penalty before the literal number 9. Dessers and Dowell subs killed us in ET. Another hard luck story but we are consistently on the wrong end of the fine margins it has to be better. Clement has shown that he can actually do things with players who are half decent, we need to be ruthless in culling the losers in the squad.

David_Davy_Dave

I wouldn’t go that far But if you want the best final possible playing it after a European week is dumb (standard Scottish football)

David_Davy_Dave

Agree David. I suspect we may be in the minority. We didn’t actually lose the game and the progress in the last few weeks is clear to see We must win 2nd Jan though

Kenneth Mackay

I noticed this as well. I was in the stadium but on around 23 minutes of extra time he gave them (yet another) soft free kick after ignoring an obvious foul on a Rangers player seconds before. The close up captured a sneering, contemptuous look full of hatred as our captain attempted to remonstrate with him. He’s their creature, their little bitch. He’s a disgrace to his profession and its ethics.

Douglas Innes

Think Extra time both teams were more interested in not losing it to a mistake

Jonny McGuffin

Proud of the team. But when you go through 4 on 1 and fail to convert to go two ahead, you risk letting them back into it. We need to be more ruthless. Very impressed by our tenacity and our pressing recently. We’ve really stepped up the tempo and our ability to pick up second balls is so much better. But we need more quality in the final third

Kenneth Mackay

Only the most egregious and game changing “mistakes”: 1. Their first goal came from a corner that was a goal kick. Furuhashi clearly sticks it wide with no intervention by any defender. 2. Their third goal was not pulled back despite a clear and deliberate off the balltrip on Diomande that prevented him from being able to take any further part in the action. 3. The Scales foul on Cerny that was a clear penalty, completely dismissed and ignored by VAR. Every time we play them it is the same. Terrified refs cheat to help them win. It’s unsustainable and we have to speak up.

Andrew Hind

Another decision goes against us, however it's another defeat to them and it's getting beyond a joke now. But to look positive there were signs we are learning how to stop them dominating the game especially in midfield

Colin Mathie

It looks like im in the minority, but sorry i want Clement gone, no gers manager should survive 6 or 7 attempts at trying to beat that lot, and he has failed every time, get rid!

Doogz

Dessers can do one, was fresh could understand if he had played the 120 mins and was going down cramping up, a Rangers striker bottling a pen not for me in a million years, letting the keeper and a full back who has hardly played recently is frankly disgusting. Our decision making at times is unreal, we should have went 2-0 up and had the game done there and then, Balogun charging through an easy pass to Igamane for what would have been an easy finish. To fight back after going 3-2 down and Danilo scoring a brilliant header I never seen that coming. But when Bajrami and Cerny departed so did our chance doing anything going forward. The subs for me stank the place out. Was screaming for a pen when Ralston took Cerny out clearly on line, no doubt we get usually nonsense from Collum.

Spoon

That’s the spirit stay classy, others opinions can be scary 👌🏼

Spoon

Thanks bud, appreciate the engagement, been a real pleasure, I certainly learned from it👍🏻

Iain Shaw

Gutted to lose, and especially in that manner. But after the past year of frequently abject Old Firm performances, the one thing we needed to do today was start tilting the scales and make these games competitive again. And we did that: We went toe to toe, made it a battle, and only just fell short after two hours of football. We lacked a bit of quality where it counts at both ends, but we know where we are short. There's nothing to celebrate in that today, but the performance was the progress that we needed to see from most recent Old Firms. I trust us to take it up a level in the New Year game, and we see what we can do in the January window.

Spoon

There you go, that’s a nicer reply, you enjoy your night 👌🏼

Spoon

Unless English isn’t your first language in which case, that’s on me for being insensitive

Graham Jones

I’m proud of the team. They had two days prep on us, they have this climate of fear over referees that cost us a later penalty award, which was a stick on. Had it been looked at, they surely would’ve awarded a penalty to us, but maybe the threat to their families will always be enough to stop them refereeing properly. The club has to call them out on this, because it cost us a trophy today. If it wasn’t a penalty I would say so, but it was a stick on because he was on the line. Losing Soutar for this game was a huge thing, because he brings a command to the defence these days, but nothing gets the referees off the hook for their failures today. That is what this game will be remembered for, and the new CEO and Chairman need to show they aren’t going to take the usual crap that the previous lot have soaked up over the years. It’s time to end the cycle of fear, and start throwing a Celtic supporters in jail who threaten referees online or in the street.

Linda Mackay

Can anyone confirm when the Cerny penalty incident occurred please?

Spoon

Probably will bud, good to have you out there supporting my work, appreciate you taking the time to read them. I only wish I could just use pithy insults, I could get more done. Forums are mental aren’t they, different opinions and just mad stuff you can choose to read or ignore. For me though it’s connecting with guys like you….cant beat it

Simon Botterill

He is strategically in the wrong position at RB to be a Scottish league Captain. Ref runs the opposite way. In a more sophisticated league Tav is a brilliant captain (i.e. Europa LEAGUE), in Scotland he is ineffective in nature required and actual position. Basic stuff

Allan Osborne

The club will probably do as they always do, say nothing, though at least Clement mentioned it. I doubt we'll have the 3 weeks hoo-ha we always have when something goes against them though.

C. J

Tavernier had a largely anonymous game today but his lack of influence over referees, his opponents and our own team’s enthusiasm is costing us on a constant basis. He’s so low on energy and he trudges around the park when Celtic’s captain is rampaging around and biting at every single person on the pitch. He gives them the edge that keeps them on top. We need a new nasty, energetic leader, badly.

Spoon

Been great Gaz, feel we got off to a rocky start but bonded by the end. I have an early start for work though and need to save all my words for a big post tomorrow so I’m going to call it quits. Check in on me again though, your critique has really made me take stock, consider my life choices and wonder if it’s even worth chucking my thoughts onto a football forum for nobody to read as I am boring and a “prick”. Need to really think about never bothering again after that news I can tell you.

Alan Weir

Totally agree, Simon. Tav has always come across as a pleasant, gentle and undemonstrative person: not what you need to stir up the troops - or give the ref an earful - in the heat of an Old Firm battle.

Colin Gardner

Just in from the game and I'm absolutely proud of the team tonight. I'm not one for sour grapes but we now as a club have to go full in on the blatant cheating on show today. Hate to say this but it's time for foreign referees to officiate these game now. It's just not a level playing field and the pressure they put on officials works to their advantage. We were up against it from the off with Beaton as usual being lenient towards them and booking us for farting near them! Then the Penalty!!! Say no more, nothing to see here just an honest mistake that that fucking halfwit Coluum will say in a month's time it was a mistake. Like I say proud we fought back twice to be beat in a lottery of pens but we are a goal down every time we play they c*nts!!

Mr J K Murray

never saw it as was at worship, lost it on a penalty decision & a penalty goal, lol, nothing else, when you pay wages for a striker to score goals & is not able to take a penalty you realize you have deep management problems, the game is based on it,they thought they would win easily but it was a just a penalty, see how the players react, make us British again,

David_Davy_Dave

If Hagi can be banished to the b team so can Dessers Disgraceful lack of energy never mind failing to hit a pen

Ronnie

Today was a sore one, but i thought the players showed great fight to keep coming back. to many times in the past they’ve crumbled after going behind. Dessers is just a shitebag

Granters

I agree. We badly need a Gough / Weir type on the park. A centre half in that mould should be priority number 1 in this coming window.

Robert White

100%. The Balogun booking was outrageous. Cheetin Beaton is on camera telling them its Baloguns 1st foul....only to call Leon over and vook him after pressure. Its so fucking blatant they dont care.

Colin Gardner

We have been silent too long. I honestly believed it was just shite refereeing but the hounding of refs has put a fear into them knowing give a bad decision and they are threatened. I'd never condone us doing the same as that's what seoerates us from those scumbags but as club we need to go full in on getting foreign officials to referee these games now.

William Ross

How many goals have we had disallowed against them recently? I am sure it's something crazy like 7 in 10!

Kenneth Mackay

Since VAR was introduced, six goals for Rangers against Celtic have been disallowed using VAR. the figure for Celtic goals against Rangers in the same time span is zero. Think on that for a moment.

William Alston

If we don't get rid of dessers in January then he should be put on the Herrera tour of Scotland until he goes

Doogz

What kind of state would he have been in if it was sudden death and he had no option? Get the bottler out.

Sandy Fraser

We’ve been cheated again. The club need to do more, I don’t have answers but it’s one of the top priority’s for the new board. Only upside is our newer signings look like they’re round about what we need. We need to get rid of the Wilson and Beale signings like Yilmaz, Dessers and Dowell etc etc then let Koppen get more in. We’re on a good path again.

Derek Robertson

disappointed in the result but not in performance . Absolute disgrace that our 5th penalty taker was our goalkeeper (and I'm one who defended Dressers ) . Agree we were out on our feet by the second half of extra time

Greg Cameron

I was slating the manager a few weeks ago...I think he's turned a corner and the team have turned a corner. Sore one to take but strides made definitely

Greg Cameron

And thanks again for all yous do canny be easy recording this or any other pod straight after the game. The lack of depth has done us and that's not on the manager

Andrew Iphone

Think we are all in agreement, the great mystery, your no9 not stepping up, but we do know Barn door with banjo …. He needs to go in January . No coincidence upturn in form and he’s not in the starting 11. A real sore one to take, the 4 v 1 to make it 2 is no surprise as the quality is just not there with some of these players .. some of the basic football is still very very poor

Luke

Did you see balogun getting booked after his first foul.. John beaton kind of waves callum McGregor away saying first foul or something then after a reply , balogun gets booked. Why not just book him at the time. McGregor is always in the refs ear.

Paul Kerr

With Alan and Frank in the booth I think we all know why VAR didn't look at the penalty. Couple that with a referee their support terrorised, desperate to show his lack of bias by being biased and today's officiating is what you end up with.

JimGLW

A kick in the baws. I rarely say but we were unlucky. Subs made the difference. We brought on some that killed us and they brought in some that helped them.

Jim Milne

The reality is VAR will have looked at it, in that they're supposed to look at everything. The VAR team obviously just got new windows, as well as their families harrassed and don't want their details spread all over social media.

Bryan Watson

We need to be wise to that we are so fkn nice its unreal. Its not just McGregor, Shinnie is the exact same when we play Aberdeen too. Why is our captain not doing that? Does my box in

Neil

100% when it went to pens I had a mental image of Dessers ballooning it over the bar Van Vossen style

Kenneth Mackay

If it was incompetence, Martin, wouldn’t you expect the mistakes to, at least occasionally, fall on the other side?

Bryan Watson

Tbf its only 4 for us and 1 for them; Morelos, Roofe, Dessers, Sima all had goals chopped off vs them harshly Kyogo had a goal chopped off vs us in September rightly for offside.

CJT

Get the ref stuff, get the we’re a lot better than we’ve been and we’re improving but I take the same view as I did when it was our turn mid-80s till mid to late 90s. You win or you lose. Fuck all else matters. We lost. Again. Comments here and elsewhere are like conversations I had with that lot back in the day - refs/luck etc. Luck plays a part when it happens occasionally, maybe. When it happens every time it’s simply a gap in quality. Need to add that and wins will come. Don’t and we’ll see this getting pumped or plucky losers shite over and over again I’m afraid. Really needs to be eye opening time. Stick or twist on the current football side is the big test for the new exec team. Get it wrong and we continue this cycle. Don’t know the answer by the way. Hope they do.

Martin Davies

You would, wouldn't you? Are they scared to make decisions against them, in which case, why choose to be a whistler? Or is it downright cheating?

Ryan Stewart

Today feels a bit like the cup final defeat under Gerrard. Although under Gerrard even after the defeat I felt like we were heading in the right direction. Not sure I feel that same way tonight. At this point Gerrard already had 2 wins against them under his belt. 6 games against Celtic for Clement and 0 wins. Regardless of the circumstances around some of them that’s simply unacceptable for a Rangers manager

John Davidson

Feel odd after that. Best showing against them in a meaningful game for over 2 years. Yet, still feel we didn't play very well and went long far too much. The penalty takers selection was bizarre.

Ecky G

Not wanting to denigrate anything he has done for us but will be glad to see the back of him. The only issue is will his replacement fulfil our needs and wants for a captain. We are so weak as a team and a unit with the current captain leading by example or should I say not by example.

Scott Stewart

The manager was spot on to go with Diomande in place of Barron . I bet there would have been ppl waiting on Diomande to have a poor game to criticise the manager , however after the midweek when both Raskin and Diomande were excellent he was right to pick the starting 11 he did today ,tbh he got it correct. Jefte had a torrid time on the left is only negative I can see and Raskins poor decision with the back header to an injured Balagoun . clement almost done it ! Id say that is progress for now but not forever ! It’s Time to beat them which must happen in January at ibrox .

Nikky Cairney

You’re not alone mate. Too many though are accepting another defeat against them because we worked hard. This proud of the team stuff after a loss is Tartan Army nonsense. It’s about winning and we found a way to lose. Long ball after long ball again today. Goals come from individual moments from players. There’s boys on our squad with ability, imagine them with a good manager.

David

Is it 2018?

Scott Stewart

Gutter. ……. Absolute gutter. Made Progress but still short….

Peter

Our problems came down the left today not the right. Time we judged others the way tav gets judged every week, he was not the problem today

Jim Milne

I seriously wonder even going back to Seville how many of our players practise penalties being that Tav takes every penalty in every competition. That isn't a slight on Tav at all. I just mean I doubt our players practise taking them regularly being I don't remember anyone else taking them in the last bunch of years. Barasic against Standard Liege?

Craig Murray

I'm on night shift after being at the game and I'm mentally drained.

Jim Milne

Not just the captain. Even when someone chops one of our players down the rest don't seem to barge in like other teams. The club won't call it out and neither do the players. We are too nice on and off the park.

Jim Milne

I wanted him gone 6/7 weeks ago. Reality is he won't go anywhere, at least not this season. It's hard to judge if we've turned a corner with regards to form, because for the last few seasons we always seem to have an uptick in form, and go on a run when the pressure is off until we inevitably lose to them in the first game after a run of good games.

Ryan Jardine

Pretty sure Dessers has scored one or two which makes the fact he never stepped up yesterday even more unforgivable.

Jim Milne

Reminds me of Barasic pretending he had cramp in 119mins of extra time in Seville.

Tav’s problem is his lack of real power in the role of captain. He’s an average footballer now at 33, but as a captain of Glasgow Rangers he’s below average. He doesn’t influence referees, he doesn’t play mind games with our opponents, he’s a quiet and uninspiring man.

Jim Lamb

I thought we were chasing shadows for large periods of this game, and resorted to hoofball for the most part. Factor in our defensive errors, piss poor passing and pathetic decision making in the final 3rd, and in my view, we’re a long way from winning our next league title. It’s going to take time and excellent recruitment to build a team capable of becoming champions, so buckle up fellow bears as this is no quick fix.

Mark Boyd

Penalty takers are pre decided. And the fact our goalie wants to take the 5th and deciding pen rather than practise saving the fucking things annoys me more. The biggest look at me moment from butland. If another was needed

David Walne

Just watched Clements press conference. He has alluded to taking penalties in training but said "I am proud of guys who will take responsibility in those moments" I'm putting that down very much as a Freudian slip to let us know that Dessers in fact did shit out of taking one.

Jim Milne

I agree. When you're captain is quiet in personality and "leads by example with performances", there isn't much leadership when the performances aren't there. I get players of this generation don't react to the Gough, Ferguson, etc style of shouting etc but we need a leader who leads on the field and inspires with vocal leadership off the field too. I can't imagine what is said in the dressing room before a match. "Let's have a good game lads, let's go" likely.

Jim Milne

I wish Clement had told if if he didn't go to Atalanta for $6m he would be in the B-team. I've never felt this way about any striker the way I feel about Dessers. I can't stand his on field whining, over reaction to referee decisions, constant misses (there not all great saves), and now add bottle merchant to the list.

Jim Milne

Surely there are B team players who could get on the bench ahead of Dowell. He offers nothing.

Jim Milne

I know we have improved lately but in the last few years that's what this team does. 11 points off in the league by November. The last two seasons we fell behind playing atrocious football, then have an upturn in form, go on an unbeaten run, have a decent run if results in Europe and then it all falls apart the first time we play them. On the one hand there is arguments that Clement be given time, but if he doesn't win in the Ner'day game irregardless of the performance I don't think a Rangers manager can last without beating them.

Jim Milne

Since Gerrard left there is no fight in the players. If an opposition player chops down one of ours, his teammates do nothing. When it happens to them McGregor and half the team rally and get in the refs and the opposition players faces. We are a team of soft nice people. We need a mean streak and warriors who don't take shit and call it out. They just give me the impression they are mentally weak.

Jim Milne

Our subs don't ever seem to even be of the same standard of the players they replace. They only offer fresh legs, not an improvement or even the same standard of player.

Kenneth Mackay

I’m sure there have been a couple more, but I may be misremembering goals from games not directly against them! The one for them you refer to was so clearly off I had forgotten about it tbf. It should never have been awarded in the first place!

Jim Milne

First goal is a fluke. Second goal doesn't happen if Souttar plays IMO and the third goal reminds me of the Spurs goal. Our defenders don't track or mark others off the ball. They chase them, once they pass they all follow the ball. Not even one thinks I should mark that guy running into the see box.

chris smith

Ill tell you exactly what the VAR bhoys were doing … laughing at giggling … thats what they were doing. Exactly why they were selected for the jhob in the first place imho

Vanb bryceter

We hardly fell apart and we need to let go of what has happened against them in the last few years, Clement has made a reasonable fist of taking them on with a mix of old and new, I do agree he needs a meaningful win over them only time will give us the answer hence he gets to the end to end of season and 1 or 2 new signings

Alastair McGeoch

Not sure how to feel about the game to be honest. On the one hand, yet another loss to them where our failing were exposed up front and defence along with lack of squad depth. On the other, an improved performance against them, taking the game to them and also coming from behind twice. But in the cold light of day, it’s another game where Clement hasn’t beaten them and the loss of a trophy. Whilst not getting meekly turned over would suggest some sort of progress I’m not sure it’s enough to convince me that Clement is the man to get us back on top.

David Gardner

The ref heavily influenced the game yesterday again - every 50/50 goes to Celtic, they are allowed multiple fouls before bookings and VAR has influenced a number of the games in the past few season and it’s never in our favour. They won a previous league cup final with an offside goal and yesterday they won it by influencing the ref. Rangers have our issues and you covered them well on the pod but the issues with officials needs called out and dignified silence donors in the age of social media. We need to go for Beaton and Collum. Dessers - he has hit a penalty and scored for Rangers in the league cup last year. He has also hit penalties for his previous clubs which shows just how much he bottled it yesterday.

Andy sawers

Even if that did happen at least he would have taken responsibility instead of hiding

Derek Stevenson

It’s not even stepping up for the pen that’s the problem with Dessers. Igamane was out on his feet, never looked fit the whole day really. We needed someone to come on, then you see why Clement resisted. Four times the ball is played into Dessers and four times it comes away from him. Useless. Same for Dowell, couldn’t do the job Cerny done on stopping the ball going to their left blank. Useless. And Dowell clearly shat taking a pen too. Get them both away from Ibrox as quickly as possible.

Brian Auld

Many people seem to have underestimated what a rebuild means. We’ve clearly started playing much better and have recently improved a lot. A couple of transfer windows and we will be fine. Some gulf in quality that was. We didn’t deserve to lose that and I’d say the unrealistic expectations of some are not helping matters. We should get behind this team and manager now.

Martin Boyd

It was a penalty but no doubt it will barely be mentioned in the Scottish press as it went the way they wanted. As for the penalties Dessers missed his last for Nigeria and possibly didn’t feel confident . I would rather have someone who wanted to take one than someone who didn’t want to. It’s a lottery when it gets to that stage biggest fuckup was when we had men over and Igamane passed to his right to Berjami and not left to Dio and Cerny then Berjami compounded it by hitting the only defender.

Stewart Thomson

We're living through our own version of Calciopoli and yet nothing will ever happen to stop it. Still sick this morning thinking how they've managed to just disregard the laws of the game because it would go against that mob, utterly disgraceful. Appreciate the pods as always guys

David Innes

A few weeks ago the general consensus amongst our own support and beyond is that they were light years ahead of us. Yesterday proved that is clearly not the case. We need a good January transfer window but I’m now prepared to back the manager at least until the end of the season

Colin Mathie

It does my effin head in, im sick losing to those f**kers all the time, get someone in who has a clue.

David

Cheated again. Hopefully the club go after Muir and Connors now.

Roslyn Hutchison

The sad fact is, all of us could have predicted a big call would go against us and it did. This isn’t just coincidence, it’s by design.

stephen

David Edgar "when its a 50/50 it goes there way" there is a reason for this born out from a very successful and deliberate campaign that we chose to remain silent on.

Simon Lewandowski

it's not really a wild take our keepers attempts at saving those penalties was embarrassing never looked like getting one

Charlie Williams

Really didnt want to listen to this, but well done guys.Honest and fair as per, thought we competed really well, which we should expect but not really done that recently. In the end gutted to lose but really thin margins and signs of improvements,we know limitations of our squad.Seen enough today to give me hope we are on the right road.Mon the Gers.

Mark Boyd

And if I’m the only one that was embarrassed when butland stepped up because I thought it was indicative of the guy then fair enough. But one of the most overrated players we’ve ever had. Vice captain, and now penalty taker. But utterly bang average goalie

Steve Clark

My biggest positive yesterday was the fact that we didn’t collapse after it went to 2-1.it was quite the opposite we dusted ourselves down and played our way back into it

Simon Botterill

They actually work on this on and off the field. Joe Hart standing on the ref at Ibrox on the Dessers 'foul' decision. We remain pathetic in this department. It's not a fair environment, life is not fair, embrace the challenge Rangers

Bryan Watson

Because Celtic have a professional Comms and PR department, whereas we have the lad whos job it was to go "gaffer a good 3 points today / frustrating afternoon, what are your reflections?" as our Head of Comms and PR. I'm sure Nick Thompson is a nice lad but he is the perfect example of Rangers failings over the past few years where we have over promoted inexperienced or ill-equipped people from within to massive roles because its the easy / lazy thing to do - the classic "ah the answer was right under our noses the whole time". It proper winds me up because Celtic have their top lines to take and their core narrative and they have the manager + their press pool of players drilled to the hilt on them and they strategically use media opportunies like post and pre match interviews / press conferences to set their public narrative, then they make use of their allies in the media be it friendly journos or their ex-players to spread and reinforce that narrative until the point it becomes widely accepted as general consensus. We are a shambles in this area for years we have had both managers and players coming away with absolute nonsense in these situations, we don't strategically communicate at all. Its so frustrating because as we all seen yesterday and over the years against them it has a real impact on the park because part time referees and officials have been left unprotected from the absolute barage of abuse and harrassement they get if things dare go against Celtic. Some of the things John Beaton went through post Dec 2018 OF were disgusting, its genuinely not worth the hassle for them (I do think Frank Connor is a blatant cheat). Then because we are so inept at strategic communication whenever we do try and deviate from the ill-advised silent moral high ground approach we are laughed out the door. Apologies for the rant but as I said this proper winds me up and if we are to get anywhere it is something we must get better at.

Ranger1972

Had a read through the comments here and found some of the takes staggering. Team and manager both have gave it their all yesterday. Ultimately came up short and given recent history of lack of success fans are hurting but we are seeing improvements week on week with this squad. How some feel now is the time to sack the manager I cannot understand. Doesn’t make any sense football wise or from a financial point of view. Some just thrive on negativity it seems.

Ross

I think the lack of squad depth killed us yesterday, bringing on boys like dessers and Dowell to win a game just isn’t gonna win us anything if we’re being completely honest about things

Maca82

The 1.5m difference explains his shitebaggery apologies…🤣

Colin Gardner

Those who are wanting the manager sacked know heehaw about football mate. Go back to Dundee Utd and I think we all thought it was a matter of time. My opinion was I was resigned to him going but I just knew it would have been a bad move all round. However whatever has happened since then be it injured players getting back or just a sliding doors moment we have seen a remarkable upturn in form. For me he gets to the end of the season then we re evaluate. The players seem to be playing for him. We were unlucky yesterday and although I just thought they shaded it we definitely didn't shite it from them. Results up to and including the 2nd may define him and this team.

Alan Cowan

Get your hard earned on us getting a penalty next time. Just when it really doesn't matter. Evening its self out. Aye.

David Innes

I had a sinking feeling at full time - felt we had to win it in 90 mins and we really should have

Bob MacCallum

Hagi and Bajrami should never start together against this type of opposition as they are physically too weak and slow. Tav shouldn't have started as he reverted to type ( poor crossing and passing, no leadership, no energy) after a couple of decent games v the likes of Killie. Danilo and Barron should have started. They didn't even get on at the start of the 2nd half! Shocking. Manager is hopeless.

ali t

We all literally predicted a big call would go against us.....jokingly but with a fear it would be true. The penalty call will get 24/36 hr coverage then its sour grapes. The effort was there just lacked a bit from bench. Clearly Spurs game impacted us a bit as empty at the end. Thats the effort abd fight i want to see every week and a nod to the boss.....he has had a good week. This must be a direction of travel for season not a peak for us. At last we did not sit back and admire them. Hopefully a bit of outs and ins during Jan window and our injuries clear up.....please.

Scott Stewart

Best to Agree to disagree . Tav for me was decent, bajarmi drove us forward and scored. lol , Hagi was very good in spells , Danilo came on and scored . The manager played a blinder . I like barron but he’s a poor man’s Stuart McCall and the level we are now at! Diomande and Raskin were good and dominated the first 55mins therefore the manager spot on. Barron , dessers non existent when they came on , the manager had done a full rebuild from the mess the previous two managers left us in! A bit of realism is needed here! He’s build almost an entire new team , lowered the age and wage bill in all but five months! We now have a style and identity of play . I agree he needs to win the two ibrox oldfirm games and defo the one in January.
