Are the rumours on a planned protest about the protest and a counter protest protesting the protest of the protest true?

Declan MacDonald

On the protests - yesterday I walked out. I feel very strongly that this board can not take this club to the next step of the “journey.” Yes they are Rangers men, they’re not like the Easdales/Lambias/Sommers who were genuinely just evil and wanted to destroy the club. However, being Rangers men isn’t enough. This board are out of their depth. They make failure after failure which are all costly. “They put their own money in” no, no they don’t. They either convert that money in to shares, meaning when the day comes, they’ll have more to sell or they loan it at 6%. “That’s less than you’d get at bank” we shouldn’t need loans. We’re pulling in record revenues. If this board were competent, the revenues we make would be enough to make us strong enough to compete with Celtic season in, season out. As for the booing. I couldn’t believe that. That really shocked me. I wasn’t surprised that majority stayed behind, I didn’t expect the Rangers support to get behind a walkout. But to boo guys, who by the way, spend more as percentage of their annual income on Rangers than our board do, is absolutely mental. These are the guys who are proper Rangers men. The guys who plough thousands of their hard earned money following the club and don’t get it back with 6% on top. I personally want the board to come out and say “Ok, we will listen to offers for the club.” That doesn’t mean we take the first offer and jump at it. We won’t repeat the Craig Whyte mistake. But we see if there’s interest out there and whoever comes forward, we hear their visions and what they would do for the club. That’s what I want. The shouts of “sack the board” are nonsense. I just want the board to acknowledge they’ve taken this club as far as they possibly can and it’s time to listen to offers from potential suitors. Yes it will be hard to get Dave King and his 14% on board with the current board, but it’s better to actually face that challenge and see what would come of it rather than hearsay about what Dave King would do.

Derek Robertson

They did put their own money in. Loans are at 4% payback not 6%, but I'm sure you know that already. Plus no one is not allowed just to gift money . A 4% payback is a lot lower than you would get from external funding. Finally if it wasn't for the Parks, Dave King we wouldn't have a club So are you are going to put your millions in or know someone who will step up and plug the funding gap?

Heart and Hand

This is kinda my point - telling the board they are doing a shit job is not only fair, it’s essential. But ‘getting them out’ - how? Simply telling them to go won’t work because as someone above said they have millions in capital tied up in it. So what’s the next step?

Hendi

Spot on with every word regarding the protests.

Graeme Glennie

My question to the people who boo is very simple if we have to be more specific about our aims.......what were you booing? What about the message do you not accept?

Declan MacDonald

I’m banging my ahead against a wall trying to point to people like yourself that we shouldn’t need these loans at “4%” as you’ve said, when at AGM in 2022 the board literally told us it was 6% to Julian Woldhart. But yes, banging my head against the wall that we don’t need these loans. If we had a competent board we wouldn’t be wasting the £100m revenue we’re already bringing in. Signings, NEH, failure DoFs etc etc. Pointless arguing with yourself as you seem very stuck in your opinion on the board are our saviours, which they were in 2015, they’re holding us back now from the next step in the journey. All I want is the board to acknowledge this and come out and say “yes we would listen to potential suitors. The club is up for sale” and see who comes forward. We don’t jump at the first buyer, that’s how Craig whyte happened. But they welcome the prospect of selling the club.

Scott

I dont agree that if you want change you need to come with a ready made solution. It’s a warning to the current incumbents that if they think we will settle for second best and that Rangers can be their weekend plaything they are wrong. Where that goes organically who knows.

stephen

Unfortunately the UB are now a lightening rod for angry fans. If they stayed yesterday I'm certain just as many would have probably booed them for that. I can't help think the move to the Copland really hasn't helped their popularity. Listen we've all been young and full of our own self importance. Yesterday for me was a little unfair on the UB, they have done a lot of good for the club and match day experience but they really need to work on their "hearts and minds" PR.

Declan MacDonald

I’m not naive to that. I understand that the board aren’t going to simply walk away. I think the cries of “sack the board” are extremely naive and immature. But when I asked the question at the AGM about being blind to the damage they are doing and will they put the club up for sale, they said they are wholeheartedly committed to the job. The guy who actually said that line left 2 weeks later, Karim Varani. I’m desperate for the board to acknowledge that they have taken this club as far as they possibly can and that they would be open to hearing offers from other parties.

Billy McCormack

David you're a jet setting superstar, get onto Elon and tell him to buy Rangers.

Heart and Hand

Right, so now that’s been achieved will it stop? THAT’S why you need aims. Otherwise it’s just noise.

William Noble

In my opinion the four subs dessers dowall Cortez and mcCausland were absolutely shocking

Alan Weir

The Union Bears, almost by definition, isolate themselves from the Rangers support. A simple glance suggests their numbers aren’t growing and more and more people aren’t supporting their opinions and joining their ranks. They don’t seem to want more members and thrive in their isolation and image of “being different”. Consequently, I don’t think they’ll ever pull the weight they think they can at Rangers, and they will remain a self-marginalising pressure group. Yesterday did seem like a rather self-indulgent performance, but I can imagine the Union Bears thoroughly enjoying planning, choreographing and rehearsing their displays and final flounce from the ground.

KennyY

There’s so many of our squad that are in that category.

Graham Roy

Personally not upset at the UB protests but do feel it’s 6 months too late….the board have made some much needed changes and I personally think they need to be given some time to sort the mess. But I hate this I’m a better rangers fan than you narrative that is being pushed by some! The reality is no changes are going to happen with ownership for the foreseeable future!

KennyY

You do realise that if it wasn’t for these board members investing in our club, putting in their own money then we could easily have gone under and not had a club to support.

Ross

The protest was a collective protest for their failings for years now. To say you better not fuck anything else up and you better not make anymore mistakes from now on. The list is endless the amount of fuck ups they’ve made over the years now. Do not make anymore

Greg

I'm surprised you didn't condemn the missiles thrown from Copland rear at those leaving, a line has been crossed and personally I won't forget the contorted faces hanging over the cantilever as I left the ground.

Alan Weir

Absolutely spot on H&H. The Union Bears have been presenting their protest displays for years now. They’ve had plenty time to come up with more than the trite, largely vacuous words put forward yesterday. I don’t mean to be unpleasant, but “great at tifos, huvnae a clue about how businesses run” might be close to the mark.

Brian Auld

Well said. Many short memories within our support. Yes we want success but changing managers or board members is no guarantee of anything. There’s been mistakes but it’s all been for the right reasons backing managers and bringing in players. I seen one person say they let Beale waste £11m. Other than not hire him in the first place, they backed him. Feels like we are in Man Utd mode, moaning we aren’t how we should be but not wanting to go through the pain to get there again.

Fraser Wells

Every Rangers fan has a right to protest. The UB aren’t for everyone but they protested peacefully. If you don’t agree that’s fine but some crossed a line. Guys behind me started chanting Scum

Graeme McLeod

Personally I think the new CEO and chairman need to be given time as they could be the change we need. The board have tried to back managers - the money has been spent poorly by Ross Wilson and then Michael Beale. We could now have the building blocks to the hierarchy and structure we need to stop that happening in the future. With our budget we should at least be pushing Celtic for the title every season. The problem is we're saddled with a lame duck manager and a poor squad due to the actions of the board previously. So while logically we need to give the new suits time, that doesn't mean fans can just ignore their lying eyes when watching this manager and team. TL;DR: I don't want to chase those that have been funding us out because there's no billionaire Rangers man waiting in the wings - but if the new CEO and chairman aren't good, we're fucked. As nobody reputable is going to buy the club unless we are actually run properly and regularly competing for trophies anyway.

LMcGrath

People have a right to protest, but people also have a right to disagree with it and voice that.

David P

The majorly worrying thing for me is I'm seeing a lot of Rangers fans online saying they're bored with all the noise and just want to enjoy a Rangers win at the weekend. That in itself is a fairly harmless sentiment and one that I think we all would echo in general circumstances. However for that to be being said now when we're 15 points behind at the beginning of January I find very concerning. Never in my time following Rangers has that ever been the sentiment from large sections of the support. It suggests to me a lowering of the standards. Posts like these are getting a high number of likes on social media. Whilst contrary posts highlighting why what we're being served up is not good enough are being shouted down as negative. I really don't know what we are as a club anymore. Maybe I'm in the wrong to hold Rangers to the standard of being the best and most successful club in Scotland. Maybe we are a club that is happy to pick up the odd cup every other season and build towards a single league title every 3-4 years if we're lucky.

William Hughes

Kieran Dowell is like Tracy behind the bar in Eastenders. Got the best job going. Nobody expects anything from them.

CJT

Totally agree with your take on the CEs comments re the manager. Add that to the wider context of the update at the weekend and you have a desire not to be reactive again but an under performing manager under scrutiny, an ongoing restructuring of the board and exec team structure, a commitment to a restructuring of the football operations and a stated desire for stability leading to more trophies/better performances. If there was a UB ‘ask’ after the protest wouldn’t it be just that? Wouldn’t it be better now to say we’ve made our point, if you don’t deliver on what you’ve said we won’t hesitate to do it again? In the interim build relationships with the wider body of supporters and gain a consensus for future action if it’s needed? Didn’t see any missiles (but utterly condemn it) but heard the frustration I share as a Copland Road ST for coming up on 40 years this summer. The perception from most I speak to is the UB attitude is ‘out the way old man, the real supporters are here now’. Likely not true but if they want to lead the support rather than be separate and superior to the rest of us they need to consider how they change that perception. Maybe then any future action required will be better received.

Jordan

I think the issue with the UB protest is that doesn't really achieve anything? Well that's how I feel anyway. Shouting sack the board, sack the manager, sack the players when there is no other alternative to funding the clubs seems rather foolish. Going this rangers and must be better isn't a solution to restructuring a large, inefficient, disorganised football club. I suspect the board would have left a long time ago if they could sell the club. It's more hassle than it's worth and certainly not a business they are making money out of.

Jason Allan

Our new CEO and Chairman are in post, to start tackling the corporate and footballing failures. There is no quick fix in this. Let them and external people look at the whole structure and put across their findings and plans for the future. The whole toxic atmosphere only allows our enemies to attack us, as divided fan bases will never lead to harmony and better team performances. No Rangers fan should be attacking and throwing objects at fellow fans. Tempers need to simmer down a little. I know it’s hard as we crave success however it’s not going to happen when we turn on each other.

David P

This review is an absolute farce. I think it's obvious the board are looking to kick the can down the road to the summer. What do we expect to find out in this review. - We've wasted umpteen millions on underperforming players on big contracts. - We miss opportunities to maximise profits on players by failing to sell them at the right time and see a number of them leave the club for nothing. - We've changed manager a number of times in recent seasons which has added to our loses. - Change in infrastructure with key positions within the club being vacated and refilled by new employees. - Injuries have played a significant part in recent seasons. - Results domestically particularly away from home no been good enough. Results of review Buy better players and change the manager with the understanding that we stick with this manager and give him all the tools he needs to do the job. Also a review of the medical department to be undertaken. Review to be published end of the season. Which is handy for the board. Means they don't need to take any action now and just let Clement sleep walk to the end of the season.

Steven Robertson

That's not been achieved. Clement said himself the boos showed there are a lot of people who support what they're doing. It's not down to supporters to pick a replacement for a failing manager. Sacking him was an open goal for a new ceo to prove he's not the board's patsy. I fear he's just this board's bain.

Scott

Its largely nothing to do with the union bears. Fans left from all around the stadium and many more didnt bother to go in the first place.

Jim Milne

In theory I agree with you, but I'd be pissed if the new CEO and chairman didn't conduct a review and external audit. They've just started new employment at the top of a company that's been rudderless behind the scenes for the past 7 months with basically no one above Clement since the summer. They've been continually paying incompetent people and hiring companies that couldn't even get materials delivered before the job started. As frustrating as it is guys in those positions need that review as evidence to reinforce the direction they will take Rangers. Any well run business should be doing this. It's just the fact we've done it so often but never followed through afterwards, that make us have no trust it'll be conducted in a positive manner.

David P

You sum up my concerns as well mate. I don't believe this to be a genuine review that's going to tell us anything we don't already know or be used to make the club better. It feels like more smoke and mirrors to me.

Kristian

The “review” isn’t about what has happened. It’s not going to simply say we wasted money - it’s going to be more about understanding why and putting together a blueprint for the future. The organisation, the number and quality of staff, the culture, the medical team, the technology and processes for recruitment, the everything. As Stewart said “it’s about building a real long-term plan”. Of course it’s not a farce, we’ve tried to make things up as we go along for the past few years and that’s part of what has got us here.

Kristian

I would ask why you don’t believe that? What has Patrick Stewart done to make you think this isn’t a genuine, professional effort to do things properly?

David P

On the review, we shall see what the outcome is. The reason I don't believe in this review has nothing to do with Patrick Stewart. It is my distrust of the current board. At this stage before we know the outcome we can choose to believe what we want about this review. I think you're choosing to be more positive. Whereas I see it as nothing more than smoke and mirrors. The main reason being I've seen it used as such before.

Robert White

From the joy of 55 and Seville...to this via self sabotage and , genuinely, corrupt refereeing we are in a pickle . We need ro sort ourselves and then sort the SFA asap. Such a weak board. Good Rangers men but so am i and i am bottom of my dream team league. So fans aint enough. I personally want Dave King back. Competence and hard nosed members.

Oliver Young

The whole need for the loans is because of the mismanagement. We should be self sustaining at this point.

Andy MacArthur

The UB are well within their rights to protest. However do so before or after the game, the team needs the fans behind them. End of thr day we are supporters and we support the team on the pitch. The board aren’t blind to the discontent amongst the support. Patrick Stewart doesn’t do a press release during the week if things are rosey. I will say that I don’t know what the UB expect they can change. We have a new CEO whose previous job was board restructuring - change is coming. We are buying young and cheap with a look to sell and are trying to balance the books with lower wages. This takes time and the CEO deserves time to implement these things.

David_Davy_Dave

It’s 100% a generational point Young guys angry the Rangers they were promised isn’t what they have got. They feel they did the banter years and it’s meant to be shiny things waved about regularly now like their dads told them it would be Guys in their 40s like me unhappy but unable to shake that residual feeling of still being relieved we have a Rangers. Yes we remember the 90s and want it back but we are old enough to accept reality and tortured (even if we don’t talk about it) by the memories of 12 years ago The young guys will I hope never know the horror of going to bed and not being sure there will be a Rangers the next day Neither side are right or wrong. I think the UBs fireworks v Lyon amongst other things certainly has them on the back foot in gaining support. That point gets worse the older the person they need to win round

Andy Barnett

Correct. This has been largely ignored by those using it as the Union Bears vs the rest. Head in the sand stuff.

Gregg

If it’s a genuinely external review/ audit then it will be done without any deletions or amendments from the investor board. It should be at looking at what we currently have in place structure wise - where we need improvements across all aspects of the club including youth development, football structure, recruitment, medical etc. The CEO has specifically said it’s not going to be a report that is done and sits in a desk drawer - as we have seen over the years with the SFA for example. Whilst the investor board have failed in running the club over the last few years - the new CEO, Chairman etc are completely separate to that and I for one am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt rather than catastrophise . I think what they are doing is what any failing business or one with growth aspirations should be doing. It’s a step forward from Douglas Park telling us at an AGM the strategy was to win more games of football - that’s not a strategy that’s what you hope is the end result. Onwards.

Gregg

Converting loans into equity isn’t a way for the investors to make a quick buck - the underlying business is worth the same regardless of whether fresh equity is issued from converted loans. If it was about cold hard cash - they would be better leaving the loans as they were. The majority of our investors aren’t in it to make money - they are essentially pouring money down the drain unless something dramatic changes in the markets we operate in.

Alexander Bruce Crombie

I can’t see us being able to get rid of the dead weight. We will end up paying them off or they will stay taking the pay and tbh I don’t blame them

Neil Wilson

Like the song. It's from an EP that came out last month.

Graham Jones

I think some people are not exactly sure who the protest was directed at, because they gave a statement demanding change of manager and of the board, but not everyone agrees that conflating those two things is the right thing to do, because getting rid of the manager doesn’t make things right on or off the park in ant way. The players will be the same, and the budget doesn’t seem to be suddenly there afetr not giving him an adequate budget in the summer. But he same token we are not going to get rid of there current powerbrokers at the club until there is an alternative, and at the moment there doesn’t appear to be one. The people they have said they want to bring in are yes men who will be put in to do their bidding for them. They said they would bear all local people, which simply means that they will be there to represent the powerbrokers by proxy. These people don’t want to give up power at Ibrox, that much is clear now, and they don’t care if Clement has to take the fall for them. I’m not really hearing what I would call an independent voice from the CEO yet, which tells me he knows who he’s there to represent, and it ain’t us. If people keep the two complaints separate it will help us m over forward and discuss things better. There is no such thing as an independent review when you are paying them to do it. By default they don’t want to tell you what you need to hear, but what they think you want to hear from the review. These companies want the business again, so they wont always be forthcoming about the issues they find. It can make them cloak the language in a way that isn’t clear enough. Besides, this review is the board seeking to redirect the problems away from the board, which is really where the problems have been. There is nothing you can do football wise when those with power decide they know better and they don’t.

Declan MacDonald

That’s like saying you won’t leave your wife even though the last 4/5 years have been an unmitigated disaster and is only getting worse as each year goes by because the first 4/5 years were rosy. They’ve taken us as far as they possibly can. They don’t have the capability to take us to the next step. If they love the club as much as they make out, put it up for sale and see who comes forward. Maybe someone/a group will come forward who have way more expertise in growing football/sporting clubs in to successful powerhouses on and off the park.

Gregg

They don’t need to put it up for sale - if someone wants to buy it, they will.

Scott Watson

Not to mention the biggest shareholder (King) has been trying to sell for years - nobody is buying

Scott Watson

Go even further with the point on share issues Gregg The investor puts money in to get a sliver of everyone else's slice of the pizza This includes their own existing slice - it's getting made smaller But all the other investors who aren't putting money in during that issue are just eating a loss so money goes into the club - and they have to vote for it

Spoon

Totally agree people have the right to express their views, appropriately, and would defend their right to hold whatever view they have even if I don’t agree with it. The UB banners are a message most people agree as these truths would appear to be self evident, that doesn’t mean you endorse that group or their activities. A broken clock is still right twice a day….unless it’s a 24 hour clock, then it’s just once.

Gregg

Disagree on business reviews - certainly ones I’ve seen - they don’t typically tell you how great you’re doing and everything is cushty. Key to What you get out is the scope of it at the start but don’t get the negativity around it at all - should be about looking forward not backwards therefore the incumbents should have nothing to fear (unless your job disappears). Just my view

Gregg

Well aye in theory your slice gets a wee but bigger and everyone is smaller as they’re diluted, whilst the overall value of the business is largely unaffected. You’d be better taking the money you loaned back. Only way to make money is to grow the overall value - which is a massive challenge
