Jordan McKay

Delighted to hear Andy’s voice again, now let’s get him back on RBR

Chris Fletcher

Loved Barry as a player. Think the fact he leaked the news to his pals in the press says it all though …. Could be a long end to the season.

John Smith

Haters need to get a grip and get behind our manager and his coaching team. Proper Rangers through and through who will demand the highest standards from those players

Graeme Glennie

Oft the heavy hitters are on the night. Strap masel intae the couch.

Billy Forrester

He is a clown and his last job was managing Alloa, badly I may add, this is just wrong and yes a great player in his day but never a manager ffs

John Smith

Fair enough Billy but you’ve got to give him the opportunity and then judge him by the results he produces for us. Very different circumstances to what he was in with Alloa

Fraser Martin

Barry's brains were always in his boots. Let's see what happens...

Douglas Innes

Lazy lazy appointments , board just insulating themselves from the fans , Billy Dodds for crying out loud , I'm guessing the board have never listened to sportsound on a Saturday or midweek

Hendi

Calls in to question the judgement of Patrick Stewart already. The guy that wouldn't be influenced by external pressure last week, now appoints a collection of simpletons to pander to the Rangers da's.

Andy sawers

Alloa, Blackpool, clyde and keltie hearts. McCann and Dodds have better records as managers. Think this is one to get the fans onside

Stephen

I am not on social media and don’t listen to radio phone in’s so maybe out of the loop . What’s Billy Dodds done to annoy so many people?

Douglas Innes

I had to mek use of that word today Clown(s) and Aberdeen mate highlighted that Kris Boyd be pissed off at not getting a shout to which I could only reply " a circus needs only so many clowns "

Rod

He's the guy who went on Open Goal and called our ex manager a cunt. How's that for standards?

David Innes

If it’s to get the fans on side then they’ve badly misjudged it. Based on the comments I’ve seen on here I’d say probably 80% against or at least highly skeptical. Those who are enthusiastic will change their tune at the first embarrassing result (which won’t take long)

Roderick Boyle

I don’t think having Barry in there will work as previously mentioned, Barry , a great player , but never manager nor coach material .

John Davidson

Pyoor brilliant Ranjurz men. Just whit we need.

Rod

Pedro was rubbish football manager but a pleasant person. If your happy for a Rangers manager to behave that way then fair enough but let's not talk about upholding standards. The verbage Rangers have used the last 24 hours about Clement is how a club like ours in meant to operate.

David Angus

Levels of negativity are actually quite staggering today. Quite taken aback. Anyone else? Or just me? 🤣

David Innes

I will wait and see. I think he’ll do very badly but would be delighted to be proved wrong

Colin Gardner

I'm assuming he is quite critical towards Rangers as I don't listen to BBC. However is he not right? Every one of us has been critical towards the club since last March so why do we get a free pass and he doesn't?

stephen

Barry the player was everything I want right now. The problem is I don't trust Barry the man. Can't shake it and I really hope I'm wrong.

Scott baillie

if players had given up on playing for clement can you see some of them being magically fit over the next few weeks?

Derek Robertson

So did Alex Rae not know what it's like to play for Rangers? Bigger fan than any of the ones just in the door?

James

I totally understand why he is gone, but also understood why we were keeping him for Europe. I’ll be totally gobsmacked if Fergie et al get us into the next round. The manager got us into this position but the players pulled the trigger (or didn’t in the case of scoring goals). Domestically of course, Europe a different matter. The only thing I’m clinging to is the hope that maybe three players who are skilful but physically capable too might start to turn things for us. A bit of pace wouldn’t hurt, but no more heartless, gutless wonders who can run fast but provide nothing else. I wonder if the board will warn Fergie not to go running to the papers. And Dodds - what has he said about us recently? In fact, is there anything that Fergie has said about any of our players that can be dug up to embarrass both parties?

Iaian

Due to the Leeds connection with potential new owners. Could there be some synergistic thinking to have similar “styles” between clubs. That being said. How do Leeds play under Daniel Farke? And has there been joined up thinking during their reign there? Marsch, Bielsa, Gracia, allerdyce ???, and now Farke. Is there a clear identity here? Outwith allerdyce anyway. Cause we know that he’s not similar.

Alan Cowan

We've had our club "Captain" in the dressing room for ,9 seasons. What does it say about his squad interaction over that time. Are we say that after all this time, he's not yet got it?. I think a lot of our malaise comes from an obvious lack of leadership for years, the so called leadership group and the individuals concerned are a disgrace to our club , the support and to themselves.

Dougie

Barry the player or Barry the man! Regardless which one you prefer we have to get behind the new management team, let’s try and make the remainder of the season as painless as possible 🤷🏼‍♂️👍🏻

Vanb bryceter

I'm trying very hard to make sense of this...and failing badly. Patrick Stewart has now alluded more than once that the problems run far deeper than our previous manager. I would love you guys David,Stevie Clifford to just ask him to what is he inferring?

James

Isn’t that what Clement was trying to do before his wingers were shown to be gutless or injury prone?

Vanb bryceter

Barry Ferguson lacks the class and gravitas to be in such a lofty position in our club. He embarrassed us and Walter Smith with his infantile behaviour alongside McGregor. They were great players in their day but are nowhere near what we need. Dodds is an absolute cnut. McCann can at least string a coherent sentence together. That's it for me,how will they impose standards onto a team full of jellyfish.

David Innes

Poor recruitment, a joke of a youth set up, botched infrastructure projects, letting players run down their contracts - the list is endless

Alfie

Great show as always David Andy’s - we are all “sons of William” quote had me laughing out loud! 😂

Scott Hamilton

The season that began not being able to hold games at home ends with an interim head coach with no experience of top level football.... Would love it to work, but the season so far and decisions made by this board over recent years is deflating

Vanb bryceter

I get all that but does this feel like we have learned any lessons at all. These appointments are just wild

John Smith

I personally would not have used the language he did but I can understand where he was coming from. Might not be the most cordial guy in the world but he defo loves our club and that’s got to count for something

Tom Martin

New manager in June. One guy who has impressed me in the recent years by what he has done at Brentford is Thomas Franks. Ok he will be on big money but surely he will want a tilt at a big club, performing every year in Europe. Team great to watch. Young talent go well with him and seems to have a nice disposition. Get him please.

Iaian

“Trying” is the word here. And he green lit a bunch of signings that didn’t have pace (Bajrami) or were clearly made of glass (Cortez)

C. J

He never leaked anything. He had to tell them he was about to take another job, as he was employed by the papers that leaked it. They leaked it, not him.

Chris Gibson

Andy's Freudian slip was the highlight of the season, which really puts things in perspective 🤣

Graeme McLeod

Only thing Clement was trying to do over the last couple of months was getting his severance package.

Graeme McLeod

Which former manager? Because if it was Beale or Clement then I can't say I disagree.

Andy Barnett

If you can share one thing positive about the club right now, I’d be shocked. I’ll wait.

John Smith

Caixinha. It’s when he got interviewed to be on his coaching staff and he just spouted a lot of guff

Iain Shaw

The point David made about formations and tactics is something I've felt for a few seasons about how we've operated. Mediocre clubs can afford to chase changing football trends: They do something "because Pep does it", they fail, nobody notices. That doesn't cut it at Rangers. When we fail, everyone notices. We've lost sight of what is needed for success at Rangers and success in Scottish football and we need to get back to that. Consider this another vote for bringing back 4-4-2 with a big man and wee man up front, men on posts at corners, etc. Glad you're not letting the players off the hook too. They have been a disgrace. They show up for Spurs and Man Utd then switch off for Queen's Park and lower SPL teams. It's not "downing tools" for a manager on the way out, it's an entrenched dressing room culture that is toxic to what Rangers is about, and it needs broken up and replaced.

Andy Barnett

I love the club, you love the club - should we be considered?? I’m all for Rangers men who get the club and league we play in, but it must be earned. Barry is a disgrace

JimGLW

Quite incredible appointments. New CEO looking shambolic since he came in.

John Smith

I think you and me as a team could probably improve this group of players Andy 😆 But in all seriousness I totally understand what you’re saying and it could go wrong. But I think given these unique circumstances it might just work. Great to hear from you Andy, hope you and your family are keeping well 💙

David Angus

Clement is gone. A positive. Could be Barry from Eastenders and we would've got what we wanted. The big decision is in the summer - I dunno who folk were expecting as a caretaker team to come in tbh. We all just want the season to end and the big decision will come on who is permanent. Would understand the mass panty wetting then if we get it wrong then under new owners with a clue and financial backing.

Stephen

These appointments are wild but it was always going to be like this. No decent manager is going to do this for 3 months. Cant really think of any alternatives

Hendi

Those that have been demanding a return of "Rangers standards" are now championing the appointment of a guy with a 27% win rate in his last job. He "gets it" but...🙄

Vanb bryceter

The only one with any credibility is Mcann. I've listened to Fergusons interview there and if he gets us playing the way he says then I'll apologise. However what he says and what manifests on the pitch will be if nothing else interesting or a complete train wreck

Graham Roy

Andy did cheer me up with sons of William comment! I’m not happy about the management team but If they win I don’t care! Takeover and Jose in the summer! 😂

JimGLW

He's a little shit who is never done putting the boot into us, giving the impression he wished he'd never played for us. Hands down the worst ex ranger about.

Tamus

I see Barry and his team being paraded in their Trackies (cringe) - or their battle of Bothwell Bridge hotel fighting suits

John O'Neill

I have zero sympathy for Clement in terms of cutting the wage bill, it’s still astronomical compared to 10 other teams in the league.

Campbell Maclennan

Remember when we beat Killie away last year and the 2nd goal came from a quick throw in. We then compared it to the famous 60 second throw in on the previous trip to Killie. I'll never know what happened to Clement after that match, but we're closing in on a full year of utter dross on the park and excuses off it. The same manager, similar players....

David Ashmead

Great pod as always - gotta back ‘em, bizarre appointment IMO but hopefully it can’t be any worse than the last two home results 🇬🇧

David Innes

They didn’t gain majority control of Leeds until they got relegated - Farke is their 1st manager

Iaian

Yeah. That’s true. I’m sure they had some influence from when they first invested though. Be interesting next few months for us.

Scott Dickson

Barry driving into Auchenhowie in a bright orange Ford Ranger. That’ll do

Ross B

Sons of William Andy 😂

Heart and Hand

It’s quite telling really. The throws Saturday were back to the ‘wait 60 seconds for a full-back’ type. It ties in with Clement’s comment Saturday ‘when I came here the building was on fire’. Well, it still is. He put it out briefly but we’ve come fully round 360.

Gordon Millar

Many have mentioned falling standards over the last year and rightly so. This appointment tells me that the board and Exec team are miles off upholding the standards that we expect and way off reading us as a support. It matters, to me anyway, how our club is portrayed to the outside football world, that we act like a big club, this is a parochial appointment by a desperate board, in my opinion!

Allan Osborne

If puting Ferguson in charge for the rest of the season is designed to give the support a boost then I'm afraid the Board have misjudged again. And Billy Dodds man, where has that come from?! I hope I'm wrong and we see out the season playing well and winning games galore. But I fear some right embassments are in the post. June can't come quickly enough.

Tommy

How long does Koppen get a free pass for? He’s headed up recruitment He’s failed to ensure we’ve had a proper striker. He’s failed to have physical presence and pace in the squad. Yeah there’s a few good young players there, is that a sign of his talent or is this only to be expected as it’s his job? Ultimately when criticism exists of the players, there does need to be some questions asked of Koppen

Roddy Cowie

If nothing else it will give Davey and co some good content down the line!

Graham Jones

All day I’ve had conversations with people to see how they feel about this appointment, and not one of them was positive. I was a bit shocked at the choice, because it’s supposed to be a unifying figure, and Ferguson is the complete opposite. My main thoughts are that this was proposed by the men from Hamilton on the board, and the rest of them went, “Fuck it, I can’t think of anyone else”, because there is a lack of thought behind this appointment, from a board we have come to expect misjudgements from. They are so bad at running a football club it’s hard to comprehend. It’s the sport of ridiculous appointment that Trump would make simply for being loyal to him. We have little to no chance against Mourinho now, because if the dressing room ain’t split now, it soon will be. I guess we can expect the Monster Munches to flow again at the training centre, so the Scottish players will be happy I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Adam

We've not exactly got a wealth of talent in the ex player turned manager department. I cannot think of many, if any, that are currently working or have worked at a level even close to Rangers. Arteta, and that's maybe it, given we've already had Gio. Gattuso or de Boer perhaps? Matters not, neither of them would take it for 3 months. So four guys, out of hundreds of former players from a variety of different nations, over numerous years. We need to conduct a study to find out why so many of our ex players don't seem that arsed about management, selfish behaviour imo. Everyone left, was inexperienced and let's face, going to be out of their depth. Not exactly super excited at the prospect of the next 3 months, but saw this type of appointment coming a mile off.

Stephen Strong

We are ALL Sons Of William 🩵🇬🇧

Tom C

I remember Advocaat saying he knew the problem with injuries and could fix it, then the physio was busier than ever! Scottish refs break players

LD

The big debate, what is better Space Invaders or Monster Munch?

Colin R

Re: McGregor’s role: Jock Wallace was a goalkeeper and he had a somewhat broader remit…

Andy Sladen

Could we add Boyd as dietician and Bomber as cultural attaché?

Jamiedinho

I feel very much like Martyn on this show, just completely baffled

John Hutchison

Great Elvis impersonation by Martin on 35 mins.

Douglas Innes

The appointment of Dodds is both baffling and ludicrous at the same time , great point by Martyn about them being available in a sense of wanting the 3 months work also knowing that they're probably done when the takeover happens , it's pretty obvious those shareholders at the top of Rangers have sacked Clement as a gift to the possible new owners " looked what we've done you can even take in your own man "

Vanb bryceter

Ferguson said he wanted Dodds which makes sense as Barry is thick as mince. I would've been ok keeping Rae on instead with the same caveat.Dodds shouldn't be allowed to take the bins out at our club he is a bitter small minded wee man.

Simon Botterill

Ferguson has been brought in to hopefully reset expectations of players, analysis and report problems and if he can get an extra 10% out of Dio, Raskin, Barron and Rice - all young and sellable assets and key players then it will be beneficial. He is not here to manage long term or improve coaching and or provide tactical genius. They are here to see who has the mindsight to be at the club, which is very few unfortunately. I would not have appointed him in this role but we can only get out of what that can team can offer.

Kyle Duff

Andys staunchness seeping out there with the Sons of William slip of the tongue 🤣🤣🤣

Revan1872

The lack of physical profile with our signings is a big red flag with Koppen. Especially when despite this flaw one of the first things he done for the summer was sign another small lightweight midfielder when we have a squad full of them

Simon Botterill

The recruitment criteria has been horrendous at times. It's challenging as the SPFL and Europe are very different for us (more so than that lot) but regardless the lack of understanding of the environment we operate in is staggering at times.

Vanb bryceter

Having chewed this shite burger over my conclusion is this. Ferguson et al are disposable wipes with a 3 month expiry. They are coming in to take on the corrupt officials, free reign to offer a square go before the game at halftime and final whistle. He can terrorise these cheats until the cows come home then walk away leaving the ashes behind him. If that's the thinking I'm all in .

Steven Robertson

The new manager needs to be someone who can change & adapt. Someone like Martin would only fail like Gio & Warburton. We play the best teams in the league at least 4 times a season & the rest at least 3. We may not rate these managers but they are very good at learning how we play & how to play against us. However it needs to be balanced & not like Pedro & beale where nobody had a clue how we were supposed to be playing!!

Owen Scott

Caretaker/Interim managers are never top drawer type appointments. Look who we have had Murty, McDowell, Davis, Durrant and McCallum. Only really Nicholl and McCall had any experience. Ferguson, Dodds and McCann have all at least managed. Could be said some coaches struggle Lower down the pyramid due to standards they are used to as a player and now as a coach those players are not at same level.

Owen Scott

As for going forward I think we need someone who is used to being a winner and has that mindset. To me Clement saw things too literally. He had second biggest budget and was second so to him he thought he was doing OK. Gerrard had the mindset that a draw was a defeat. Ferguson I hope will be the same. Whoever the next boss is I hope its someone who knows a draw is just as bad as a defeat and doesn't harp on about budgets when ours dwarves the majority of the teams we play against

David P

I'm hoping than when the takeover is complete they come in and are absolutely ruthless. Someone like Koppen for example should be shown the door. There's no need to take the slow approach, just come in and get your own people in place.
