John Smith

Absolutely buzzing about tonight

John Smith

Tom Petty one of the all time legends of music. Gone far too soon

Alan Weir

A small point, but funny to see That Mob get their knickers in a twist or, even better, pretend they’re not bothered by the takeover. Even such a shitshow of season as this one brings a wee bit of hope😁. Go on, David, tomorrow mention rumours of Mbappe and a Neymar comeback just to pull their paranoid chains.

james whyte

Sounds promising on the takeover.

Graham Roy

I am keeping myself reserved and not getting ahead of myself about the takeover until it’s complete. Should maybe mention I’m currently sitting in a 49ers hoodie, hat, USA flag whilst listening to Bruce Springsteen and shouting USA in my best Homer Simpson impression! I can’t wait for the kerrydale finance experts telling us how this is a bad thing! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Heart and Hand

They’re not bothered mate and you know they’re not bothered because they are telling us how not bothered they are repeatedly!

Iain Campbell

Great news about takeover. Single owner having 51% will be easier for decision making and communication within club. Should bring level of professionalism to club not seen before in my lifetime. Looking at how Leeds been transformed is hopefully similar way.

James Mcgill

Finally some major positive things to look forward to. Next season should be much more interesting now

David Innes

Do you think it’s inevitable that Ibrox is going to be re-named?

Vanb bryceter

Thanks David really enjoyed the update on the takeover. Can't wait until the season is over and we move on properly this time. You're of course correct in pointing out no guarantees, but I do hope we see an end to the embarrassing half arsed attempts to take on the cheats in Scottish football. Hopefully we get folk with proper football knowledge and gravitas which in turn will hopefully see a move away from the contemptuous way we are treated on and off the park.

Graeme

I still believe America is an open air asylum but God bless those goofy bastards

Jim Smith

Where does Club 1872 fit into the takeover? if at all

Niall MacKay

Do we have a value on the share issue?

John Smith

I first heard him sing American Girl in Silence of the Lambs. It’s right before Buffalo Bill kidnaps the senator’s daughter and I remember thinking god that songs brilliant. So yeah I went through his catalogue and been a big fan since. Great to see him get so much attention with the GTA 6 trailer.

Kirk Guthrie

Hate to be all 'morality police' but it's actually pretty disappointing about the health insurance company aspect. I know most will be excited for our future now but it just gives me a bad feeling. These people hold nothing sacred and will do anything for the almighty dollar.

keith wright

Thank you David loved the update and read the Athletic article, it’s a very good read. Did find it funny though that the Leeds fans think there a far bigger club than us, just because they play in the premier league.

Mr Ritchie

Really good explanation of the takeover process, seems a bit clearer thank you

Raskul

You sound exceptionally excited. So i'm content with this. It may be a slow burn but we'll get where we belong. Thanks for all your hard work.

Stephen

I think it probably will. There will be loads of things that we will just have to accept. Won’t be bothered if it something decent. Not like the tinpot ones already it the SPFL like the Scot Foam Stadium!

Doug Young

Was just listening to him for the first time in ages yesterday. Every track is gold.... Although it was his greatest hits....😑

Bryan Watson

Really good DU David. Genuine question - you spoke about the takeover taking us up levels. Are we now at least on level terms with our rivals across the city or do we surpass them in terms of available resources such as finance, data analysis, sports science etc? Subsequently, where should our expectations be realistically? I.e. should we really be expecting to win the title next season? I'm really excited by the potential and hypothetical places the takeover could take us. A massive assumption in that however is that the new owners share our ambition for dominance and success. They should do because for me what would be the point to go to all the effort of buying the club just to keep the status quo of consistently failing and never looking likely to stop Celtic's dominance?

Graham McIntyre

Loving hearing your excitement David, if you and the boys from HIH are happy with this - I will allow myself to get a bit excited too!!!

Heart and Hand

We’d be closer but they still have advantages - a better side, proven record in the transfer market. We still have a journey ahead of us. Just be on an actual ship than a rickety raft.

Bryan Watson

They haven't renamed Elland Road (yet) to be fair. From what I can see it seems like Paraag Marathe has decent grasp on how important stadiums are to British Football Clubs like Leeds and thus by extension Rangers. We might be different to Leeds though in terms of need for instant cash injection right enough so it may be something they explore with us but wouldn't take it as a given solely because its yanks

Graham Roy

The best one I saw was it wasn’t true as the 49ers hadn’t said it was true! When I pointed out they also hadn’t denied it suddenly they went quiet?! If nothing else it downplays them probably getting a treble as everyone will be talking about us!

Adam

There's been such stagnation around the club, especially post Covid, and it's been really difficult to get excited by anything being implemented by the current board. Absolutely no shame to them for that, they don't have capital that the guys coming in have access too, but at times it's felt like we've been stuck in the mire. I would imagine, we'll start hearing rumours about Sporting Directors/Directors of Football soon, which should give a clearer picture on the direction of travel, that the takeover will take heading into next season. That's the key position for me. Nail that one, and we should see a more cohesive approach in the footballing department, which has been sadly lacking in the last 4 years. All the stuff I've read about the 49ers, is that they're not about being flashy or appointing big names just to get a buzz going. They do their due diligence and appoint the right people.

Bryan Watson

Thats a great way of putting it. As much as they have a better side we have seen how quickly that can be wiped away in Scotland (Summer of 2000, Postecoglou's rebuild for example). Our access to their data analysis in terms of sportscience and recruitment really excites me. That Leeds Utd squad is the best in the Championship easily but has been assembled for buttons and consists of players you'd never heard of. Wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility for a similar summer to happen here and to subsequently kick on next season.

Heart and Hand

The good thing about SPFL is it really shouldn’t be impossible to build a side that at least beats the other 10 and set up a straight shootout. It’s not like other countries where you have to go through a bunch of clubs to get there. They have unfortunately a winning manager and side but we should certainly be able to put up more of a challenge than this season.

Tamus

Dear Septic Tanks. I've got £500 of Tifosy shares - call me 🤙

Tamus

0-0 tonight - Rangers get a free kick 20 yards out - Barry subs himself on for Tav

Neil 55

Not often you hear The New York Times and Rangers in the same breath. Hopefully exciting times ahead. Cheers David.

Dougie

Very exciting times ahead for us all! It’s really hard no to think ahead what’ll happen regarding new players, Ibrox capacity etc. I know I should keep my feet on the ground but that’s easier said than done 😊

Spoon

I didn’t want to be as excited about Ferguson and co but as the 90s coincides with my 20s I just can’t help but feel a long neglected connection is back. Could turn out to be a shit show but in back in.

Craig McWhinnie

Wait so the 49ers won’t own 49%, is this deliberate? 😂

Craig Guthrie

Certainly more positive for us compared to this time last week

Linda Mackay

Excellent article in the NYT, very informative and I think I might just be talking to Rangers again! Not quite back in love but it’s a start!

George Higgins

Rugby park has been given a sponsors name but everyone still calls it Rugby park. Ibrox would be the same

Graeme McLeod

Look at the difference between Gerrard's first year and the season prior. Yeah, we had a collapse after the winter break, but we went from a joke to competitive. The issue we've had since Gerrard left is the money has been spent poorly. The reason the gap between us and Celtic seemed insurmountable until this takeover news is because of how poorly run we've been, not because the gap can't be closed.

QB_72

Thanks David, heres to a brighter future ahead at Rangers as we've been doing dark too long now ✌️

William Noble

Excellent podcast as always David

Andrew Mundt

Dunno about that mate, we've been buzzing about our trip to the B.B.S.P.S. all day

Kristian

David, I share your excitement regarding the potential new ownership but I do think it’s worth correcting the record re Andrew Cavenagh’s wealth. His firm isn’t a “health insurance” company (it’s a platform for small-medium sized businesses to aggregate their demand for health insurance to get better pricing). It is also not “valued at $80bn”; Warburg Pincus, one of the two PE firms who have invested in the company he co-founded, has assets under management (ie the value of money they invest on behalf of other people) of more than $80bn but ParetoHealth is much, much smaller (it was valued at $200m in 2019, it’s now maybe $3-400m) and obviously he is now a minority owner having sold stakes to Great Hills and then Warburg Pincus. Frankly, there is no way he’s personally worth $9bn. He is wealthy, but not billionaire wealthy.

Gary Shaw

Correct…I remember Gerrards first OF game,3 days after UFA at the Piggery….They beat us 1-0 and in truth we didn’t look like winning but there was just something different about our shape, structure and effort that day …I always remember saying to my mate after the game “That’s the hammerings done aslong as Gerrards the manager”….It shouldn’t be anywhere near as difficult to mount a title challenge every season as fans/media make out….
